***OFFICIAL*** October 2011 - Updated 10/08/11

You will be happy to know I am packing up the minivan tonight (wait...scratch that....mommy mobile). I think I'm just going to bring the lock box (with the birth certificates and ss cards), a suitecase, and ALL my pictures. Yes, I am bringing all my picutres. Someone once asked me what I would grab. Well, there's your answer.

Oh, and the dog and cats, too.

Thank goodness! :upsidedow

Yep - pictures would be on my list, as well. All of my scrapbook albums! ;)

I pray the storm will fizzle and that your evacuation will be for nothing, but I am so glad that you are taking the precaution.

So I didn't look at this thread last night and I missed you talking about staying....Let me tell you, when I started reading that, I was about to start driving your way to drag you out. Like everyone else said, you can rebuild/fix a house, not people.

Glad you decided to go. I hope your area stays safe. We are starting to see/feel effects in NC this afternoon...not much yet, but you can tell it's coming.

I hope EVERYONE stays safe. For those of you closer then me to the NC coast....Head on over, we have plenty of room here and enough food to get us through for days.

Ack! So creepy!:lmao:

In other news...
I just got an email from DD's teacher and it looks like I will be the room mother for her class this year. I hope DS will be okay with that. He likes to share me as little as possible (total momma's boy!), but I was his room mother last year so I guess it's only fair. Last year, I dealt with kindergarteners, and they were very easy to impress, but this year I'll be in a 3rd grade class. I hope I'm up for the challenge!:rotfl:

(BTW, I am officially in the 40's today! 49 more days!!!)

My daughter is in the third grade, too. And she wears glasses. :)

I am at 50 days today!!!! :dance3:

:eek::eek: Now I have to worry if I have enough time to get everything done!:eek::eek:

Just kidding:rolleyes1

Ask away here and I would try the other October thread as well (there's a link in the first post). I check on that one every once in awhile and I know someone over there was asking as well. Best of luck!!!

And to go a little off topic (cause you know that's how I roll...:rotfl:), we got the evacuation order last night. But (and I can't believe I am going to say this) I don't know whether we're going or staying at this point. I feel like if I go, I can't protect my house. You know? I also feel like I'm somehow abandoning my home if I evacuate. I don't know; I'm just so upset and freaked at this point. I wasn't worried yesterday and then we got the call last night (the county called us and told us to evacuate). At the very least, I may send DH and the kids to my moms. I just don't want to come home to a destroyed home. Everything I've worked so hard for......

And we're directly in the path. What we're really worried about is if the hurricane hits the Delaware Bay and the River. My house will be gone if that happens. I live about a block from the river. This is like a once in a hundred years incident....things like this just don't happen in South Jersey.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I'll keep checking in as much as I can to see your updates. Stay safe and dry.

I can not even imagine having to evacuate, DH and I talked about that and I told him I would hate it just like you said, to leave everything and not know what you might return to

No need to be sorry....it is what it is. And I have to live with that. :) I'm just hoping we don't get the storm surges they're talking about. I lived through Hurricane Gloria in NH and Floyd here in NJ (I was actually preggers and not living too far away from where I am now).

I did call my two insurance companies (flood and homeowner's). Basically, I'm covered so I just have to make sure I have the deductible (which I do). It was weird, both insurance companies seemed surprised my policies were paid up to date and perfectly secure. I guess most people let it lapse until they need it. Insurance is one thing I never skimped on.

OH....did I tell you guys I added an extra day of free dining? I wasn't sure if I mentioned it yesterday or not. I happened to see a post that the dates for free dining had changed and I figured: what the heck, the least I can do is check. Sure enough, they had added the 22nd, so I was able to add that day to the free dining package and remove the day from my room only ressie. Now just crossing my fingers for a room discount before September 5th. :wizard:

Yeah for Disney changeing the dates and your being able to add the day for FD! :cheer2:

Be safe

Just kidding about having enough time - the rest I was totally serious about.:lmao:

:lmao:

I just realized that this is the last weekend before the University of Dayton fall sports begin. Well, technically volleyball and soccer started today, but they are on the road this weekend. We are serious Flyer fans. We have seasone tickets to practically every sport. We will now be busy every weekend from next Friday to April! Our favorite sport is definitely football. We try to go to every football game both home and away, and next weekend we start our season on the road at Robert Morris University (in Pittsburgh, PA). We're taking DH's parents with us this year. They have never been to Pittsburgh so we are going to do some sight seeing with them. The bad thing is... we haven't yet figured out exactly what sights we will be seeing! As if I didn't have enough on my mind already!

You can add us to the list for October 2011!! DH, DD17, and I will be at POP October 7-11 for free dining :yay:, food & wine fest :drinking1:, and MNSSHP:maleficen: OK, DH isn't the biggest Disney fan in the world, so he doesn't know about MNSSHP party yet as we are on a budget:confused3: but I'll slide those tickets in somewhere! DD17 started college yesterday (and she's our only, so sad and proud all at once)- I think DH agreed to this as a "congrats" for her and a cheer up for me! Just planned the trip on Monday and for some reason decided to contact Dreams Unlimited, which is odd as I usually do our own planning. I got a very nice courtesy hold on my room (so I had time to transfer my rewards dollars to my card), which was really smart and lucky as they changed free dining so that by the time I was ready to pay for the vacation, my check-in date was no longer included! Wouldn't THAT have been a kick in the pants, and how to explain to DH? Good thing I went through DU and had that hold! It's gonna be a fast trip, and busy, but who cares? I'm going to Disney World:banana:

42 days and counting... better get working on those costumes for that party DH doesn't know about

Is there anything to see in Pittsburgh? Just kidding...don't flame me. But, seriously, I'm not sure what is there. Google is your friend. :rotfl:

Smitch, that's cool on the room mom assignment. I never get those because I work and, therefore, can't be there whenever they need me. So I donate stuff. A lot. lol

No I did not just here the weather person say "Don't Panic". LMAO :lmao::lmao::lmao: You have to understand why this is cracking me up: I am a hug Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan. And that is one phrase that is repeated throughout the book, don't panic. ha ha ha Oh, and bring your towel. Both are great pieces of advice for this hurricane.

OK...back to the thread (I told you I get distracted easily). I still have to buy pins for the kids for trading. I think I found a guy that does not sell scrappers and has decent prices. He actually sent me pics of the backs of the pins. Can't argue with that. And it's so difficult for me to tell real from scrapper anyway. I went through the pins that the kids had traded for in 2009 and I would swear that some of the ones that are supposed to be authentic were scrappers. I don't really care; the whole point is that the kids have fun trading. But as hubby and I talked about, I would feel absolutely awful if my kids traded scrappers and someone else (especially a child) got it. That's not very Disney.

I have my Disney binder with me and I'll be playing with that throughout the day. I have to organize, you know. :) I think we'll also play Disney Scene It, Disney Bingo (DS2's favorite), and Disney Trivial Pursuit throughout the weekend.

FigmentChick - I looked for you all day yesterday....How are you??? Did you get out of the way of Irene?

Now some October talk - My mother has a small bag full of pins - YAY!!!!! I love FREE stuff, and I posted something about pin trading on my FB and a friend commented that she has about 20 pins that she doesn't want b\c her kids don't like them....and she is going to give them to me FREE ( I offered to pay for them) So we will be pin trading this trip YAY!!!

My son is in third grade too. I haven't been room mother in a couple years but this year I got roped into a 2-year term as PTA co-chair for the whole school (it's an Age 2 - 12th Grade private school). I really have to work on that overcomittment thing. :rolleyes1

Very cool! My DS8 doesn't know about pin trading yet. He's a born collector (mostly pokemon right now) so i'm sure he'll love it. I decided to wait until our Christmas 2012 trip when we take his grandparents (first time). His grandfather is also a collector (coins and stuff) so I was planning to get them both a set to start with so it's something they can do together. I'm really excited about this idea. Of course, DH thinks i'm nuts because it's more than a year away. :rotfl:

39 Days!!!! Starting to pull things out so I can start organizing!!! We are used to going in Nov/Dec so we feel a little odd here already getting ready for our annual trip!!!:laundy:

:lmao:

They have some good museums there. We go to Pittsburgh every year, sometimes twice between football and basketball. We've never been to the zoo there, so that will probably be our Sunday activity before heading back to Ohio. :)

Well... after reading the posts yesterday about the dining prices going up, we are likely adding our QSDP back on to our package. We booked it originally, but then we took it off thinking we could eat cheaper, but I did a mock up of a typical day for us and I came up with about the same price as the plan. I only added in our meals (no desserts) plus 5 snacks/drinks and that added up to be the same price as getting all 8 snacks plus desserts, and then we wouldn't have to pay for our mugs. My final payment is due Aug 30, so I think I will pay it off as is and add the dining plan a little bit later. That way if by some miracle some type of discount comes out, I can add the dining plan then and not have to pay the $50 change fee since my total package price would be going up.

Just when you think you've got everything figured out, you realize you don't!:confused3

I guess I should also introduce myself on this thread. I've been active on the other October 2011 thread and been lurking on this one for a few weeks and decided to quit being a stranger. Anyways, DBF and I will be there 10/22-10/29 staying at AKV-Kidani. Looking forward to our 1st MNSSHP and F&W !

I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote my original post because I said we were staying AKV-Kidani. But we're not. We will be nearby at AKV-Jambo though so I didn't completely lose it !
(previous post has also been corrected)

I can't tell you how much I agree with this statement!!!!:)

The zoo should be good; I love zoos. We're spoiled, though. We are members of America's oldest zoo, the Philadelphia Zoo, and we go there quite often. Actually, we just had a new jaguar cub born this year, so my kids are so excited. The year we first became members, a jaguar cub named Katia was born and we've been able to watch her grow. It is kinda cool to do that!

Have fun on your trip!!!

On another note: we are fine. We decided to stay in the house and I'll explain why. When we went out on Friday night (to get batteries that hubby didn't get earlier in the week....that's a whole other story!!!:lmao:), we went out during high tide. The tide was actually really low. I mean, really low. So, we watched the river all night and into yesterday and decided to stay put. I made ham steaks and scalloped potatoes for lunch yesterday. I hung out in my bedroom watching the news while the kids had the TV in the living room. We watched the track and realized it probably wasn't going to be as bad as the media was projecting it to be.

Now, we did have multiple tornado warnings last night, BUT....so did my mom and that's where we would have gone. A tornado supposedly touched down about two miles from my home, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The river has stayed where it is supposed to be and hasn't crested and flowed down the road to my house. We do have The Isle of FigmentChick going on.....we're surrounded by water behind and on the sides of the house, but it has actually gone down considerably since 2am.

So, we've weathered the storm (ha ha ha.....look, I have to find humor somewhere....I don't think I've slept since Wednesday night). I'm gonna go check on the little one and then rest a little.

Everyone take care and I'll pop back on in a little while (I really need to get a new laptop!).
