I am back, I can't believe it has been a whole month. I'm gone for a month and the thread is up to 11 pages, WOW! :thumbsup2

I have had alot of personal and health issues this past month and have not felt up to getting online to update the thread. Not only did I have surgery, but the day after I drove to say goodbye to my only living grandmother (let's just say, it was physically painful to drive 2 hours south) and after returning home, my dad called and said she had passed away, and BTW her funeral was on my 40th birthday! It was a very sad day that day, had to bury my grandmother, celebrate a birthday I was not looking forward to (not to mention my family didn't seem to remember it either), and I was in constant pain from the health issues. Sometimes I wonder if my family has a clue sometimes, because people kept telling me how wonderful my grandmother was and I shouldn't cry because she was in a better place (of course I cried during the funeral, but I was crying after the funeral because of pain, heck, I almost passed out at the grave site from pain. DH said he looked at me and I went pale white and looked like I was about to pass out and he came up to me to keep me standing) Anyway, I know TMI. LOL Just had to vent.

Anyway, :welcome: to all the newbies to the thread. So glad to see you here. I have updated everyone on the list. Please check it out and make sure everything is correct. I have counted 43 subscribed DISers here. :woohoo: :cheer2: And I am looking forward to others. If you are new, pull you up a chair and introduce yourself if have not already. I am off to bed and I will read up on all the new posts tomorrow (I was just looking for newbies tonight to update the list) I missed you all, see ya tomorrow.

Welcome Back!

Sorry to read about your loss

Glad you are feeling well enough to return to us here on the DIS

Birthdays are over rated IMO, I have one coming up in 4 days. I wish mine was my 40th, but I rememeber that one being a bit tramatic for me.

Families can at times be clueless :rotfl2:

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( My grandmother died the day after my 30th birthday in January so I understand... though I didn't have a surgery to deal with on top of it!! Hope you're starting to feel better.

I hope you are feeling better soon!!! sending lots of pixie dust your way!:wizard::wizard:

I am somewhat new- in the last week or so.

I'm Michelle, mom to 3yo William, wife to Alan. Work full-time in marketing, recent DVC member (BLT), new AP holder (in Dec) and ex CM (college program 1996). Oh yeah and 'my name is Michelle and I am a disney nut!'. We are booked for my son's 3rd trip (talk about spoiled!) for October 14-22 at BLT. Planning on MNSSHP, Food and Wine and maybe the Pirates and Pa cruise!

Sorry to hear about all you have been going through. My dh lost his dad the day after he turned 30. Its hard. Glad to see you back though.

Welcome back! I'm sorry for your loss, what a way to spend your birthday! :sad1:

The crowds the first week of Oct or not what I would call huge...compared to summer or say easter week/spring break , they were just more than what we expected since we had heard they were lower.

That's good! I'm expecting the first weekend to be busy, but I hope the week slows down a little! :confused3 If not, oh well, we'll get through it, we've taken enough Disney trips now to know how to deal with crowds! It's just annoying that you have to be in certain parks on certain days for your ADR's! I wish I could just hop to another park if one is too busy, but ADR's kind of limits the ability to do that!

Please add DH and myself to the list. We will be there Oct.1 to Oct. 7. We are staying at CBR. Looking forward to MNSSHP!!!!

What are your thought on ADR's for OCt. (last week). I want to make a few for the more popular things that we don't want to miss, Chef Mickey's, CRT, still looking for another, but for the others I was hoping to be flexible, decide the morning of which park we want to go to and make and ADR for a place there. Am I crazy? Will I end up being shut out of most places or eating dinner at 9pm? I haven't been to WDW in many, many years so I was hoping to just go with the flow and explore, see what DD likes and take her lead. Being tied into ADR's every night wil be a little more on a time table.

What do you think??

October (well the end of September) can't get here soon enough.
Myself, DH, DS4 and DD2 will be heading to POP 29 Sept - 8 Oct!!

I have no expierence with the last week of Oct but one thing you said in your post about not having been to Disney in many many years struck me. In 2009 we went having not been since 2006 and we only made one ADR for HDDR and found there not to be much available as a walk up, to be safe I would make some for where you expect to be, you can always call the Dining line and cancel if you are able to get into someplace else on the day of.
We found space on our trip at Olivias 2x, ESPN, Rainforest Cafe on our last night which we spent at DTD due to poor planning we at at McDonalds as walk ups were an hour + wait and it was a Monday evening.
We had to do CS for the remainder of our meals

i would make ADRs, especially for something like Chef Mickey's- you can't be sure you will get it. Heck, a lot of stuff you can't even get a month out anymore for an ADR. WDW has become extremely busy (have you seen their stock- all time high this year!) in the past few years. There isn't really a 'slow season' anymore.

Every trip we have done the past few years, we've made ADRs immediately when we could. I swear every single meal, we go to the podium to check in and there is someone in front of us asking for a walk in reservation only to be told no, they are completely booked. I've seen people turned away time and time again- at Via Napoli, 50s Prime Time, LTT etc. NOt even the most popular venues. There was no option for eating later, there was just no availability at all. i saw one guy at Via Napoli get really pissed, but he didn't have an ADR and they were booked. And this was in early December (first week) when it isn't all that busy.

i would say, make the ADRs for the places you know you really want to eat at. If you decide to change you can, just call dining and cancel or change (if availability). But i wouldn't risk no ADRs if you know you really want to try somewhere. and if you don't make ADRs, just be prepared to eat QS instead- because you could be very easily told no availability at most restaurants, especially if FREE DINING is going on, then forget about it. with free dining, there isn't usually an ADR to be had last minute. That's just been my experience. In this economy, when guests are offered free dining, they maximize their use of the plan..........so a lot of TS venues fill up fast with folks ensuring they get the best bang out of free dining! i am almost glad there is no free dining offered to the public when i am going this year, it makes the restaurants that much more crazy. (we can't get FD anyhow).

i know it makes it hard to be flexible though. But if there is something you have your heart set on, book it in advance. if you know you will be okay eating QS instead, then don't worry about it, but just know you might not get in to a TS place (at least not that one you want maybe).

i just have found the last few years more and more difficult to get the restaurants I want at the prime times i want even at 6 or 3 months out.

Yeah, just kind of posting to look at my counter. Getting excited because May's almost here!~ We can actually BUY our party tickets....

Thanks for the tips. I know for sure I will do Chef Mickey and CRT as soon as the 180 day mark hits but I was hoping to be flexible for the others. I want to get the DDP and don't want to pay for that, get shut out of TS places and end up not being able to use the credits AND have to pay more OOP for QS places. I guess you are right, I can pick a few more places and just deal with the schedule :(. Takes the fun out of it a bit but it is what it is....

SJS, when I say I haven't been there in a long time I mean 17 years!! LOL, yes, I know hard to believe but it's been that long.

exw, I was sort of thinking the same thing about the FD, while of course I would love the bargain, I would imagine it's a bit more crazy to eat during those times. Maybe I'll get lucky with a GP room discount and no FD offered ;).

Any suggestions for TS places? I'll check out the Dinning site as well.

Thanks for all the tips

I am soooo out of it. When do the MNSSHP tickets go on sale again? Having to budget for it, since it is extra and not part of the package I booked. Oh, and has anyone heard of any deals for October past the October 1st date? I am so hoping for free dining.

Usually the tickets go on sale the beginning of May, I believe last year it was May 1st.

There are pins only going out for now thru 8/13 but no word on whether there will be any offered after that or anything public offers vs. just pin codes.

:welcome: to all the newbies to the thread. :goodvibes Pull up a chair and introduce yourself if you have not already done so, and if you want to. ;) The list is up to date as of now.

Thanks for the well wishes, condolances (sp?), and birthday wishes. I really appreciate them. Hopefully from hear on out, my life will stablelize. lol.

I have one update, my niece will not be joining us at WDW. She will be in 10th grade next school year and will be taking AP classes. Her teachers suggested she not miss any school, so she has to back out. She is upset, but I told her there will be plenty of opportunities to go to WDW with us, that school is more important at this moment. So, I will be there with 2 kids (one special needs and one semi diva, lol) by myself, please say some prayers for me. lol.

Wow 17 year is a long time. I went in 2006 with a friend, and our next family trip in 2009 it had been 11 years since my DH had returned and I thought that was a long time. You will have so much to see and do this trip. It will be a great trip

I haven't been since 2006 and I thought I knew all there was to know about Disney. The more and more I read and search the more I find I still have a lot to learn! :rotfl2:

We are in...
Beach Club Villas September 30 - October 4
Villas at Wilderness Lodge October 5- October 6

Cool thread, we'll be staying at the CBR 10/13 - 17, after our 4 night Dream cruise. It will be the first visit to WDW for our DD and DM and I have not made it back since '94 for our honeymoon. Looking forward to our first MNSSHP and everything that has been added since then.

Dave
