***Official November 2013 - Part II*** (that's right....we're that popular!)

Actually the AMA has repeatedly stated that most Otitis Media (ear infections) do NOT require antibiotics.

Most MD's write prescription for antibiotics solely because they do not want to hear people complain about an illness that will self resolve in a week, and because the rare case that a viral infection will lead to a bacterial infection....they do not want to be sued.

Unfortunately, this is leading to increased rates of antibiotic failure and resistance, which could kill thousands.

As a side note, please be very careful about posting medical advice if you do not have a degree, your home remedies could be harmful to people in certain situations. We all want to help, but personal experience is never a good reason to make medical recommendations.

Isn't posting about Doctors not giving antibiotics or giving them needlessly a form of advice though? I don't mean to be a sh*t disturber but this could cause someone to NOT seek medical advice.

It would be a very square, institutionalized world if we only took the gospel of a select few individuals....oh wait... ;) ;).

I think we need to trust that people frequenting a message board, take what everyone says with a grain of salt. Who ever knows whose typing on the other end.

Happy healthy vibes to everyone (including my own sinuses.....haha). I hope it all passes soon!!

Omg times going s slowlyyyyy. Lol. Less then 72 hours. Omg. I'm more excited then my kids used to get lol

Has anyone done the drawing lesson with the imagineer? Do you have to sign up early for it or just go? I think I'd like to do that.

Still catching up on posts (sitting in MCO) so not sure if this has been answered - we just did Animation Academy. It's in the Animation building to the right of Wreck It Ralph. It's first-come-first-served. Room holds 20 or so. It is 20 minutes and runs every half hour. We got there yesterday (medium crowds) right before 10:30 and there was only room for two of us. I sent my Mom and my son in. There were more people behind us that waited till the next show. I was surprised by the number of people in line for something so obscure.

Also, there appears to be a new Minnie meet & greet in between Mickey and Ralph in that building. It was totally unmarked but there were a couple people standing in line at this door so we asked. I saw later that Josh tweeted about it over the weekend.

Thanks , I'm getting excited to be able to do what I want to do, no kids this trip, ahhhhhhh.

I think time is going fast! Well, the hours at work are not, but feels like the days are flying by! Single digits today! I have so much to do with work and school and trip plans so I'm sure that's why. I'm glad we haven't told the kids because I know my husband could handle their daily countdown in addition to mine!

I did notice when finally checking my travel booklet my flights had changed! Just by a few minutes but the flight numbers are different. Glad I caught it. I'm very surprised the airline didn't email me. Had to have Magical Express change their info for us. Makes me worry what else I am forgetting/has changed.

I just saw on another post that the gingerbread house IS going up right now. In one of the pics, there is a sign that says open Nov 16. But its going up!!!!

Speaking of illness.....

I've had a cold for 15 days. It's definitely better but still lingering in my sinuses and a bit in my chest.

I've got two days to decide to see a doc or not.

I never take meds (like maybe once a decade) but this cold has just latched on!

Have you tried some raw garlic? Or 1 tbsp each of raw apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon juice, and raw honey? Or elderberries or rose hips? Those are my go-to cold treatments. Sorry, but when you suggested essential oils and breast milk for the EI, I figured we were both kinda crunchy. ;-)

BTW, Coconut, another thing you can get OTC, sometimes even at Walmart, is garlic-mullein oil for the ear. Really excellent results with none of the worries of antibx. Just a thought! Hope she feels better soon!

And I think that for the week before we leave I'm gonna double up the Juice Plus and make sure I bring elderberry-echinacea syrup with me in case someone starts to get the ick! Y'all are scaring me with all the stress-induced illnesses!! LOL :-)

your Pluto is beating you there LOL

I know right? I feel like putting a leash on him and telling him to wait up. I had to choose Pluto because when I went in 5th grade (11/82) I saw this big Pluto in the gift shop and I really wanted him but he was soooo expensive. I think he was $30, which back then was a lot. I hugged him every time I went past, but I never would have asked my parents for it. Well that Christmas a huge box was waiting under the tree and Pluto was in it, I was so excited. He slept over my legs for the next year and a half until my house burnt down and I lost him. He has always had a special place in my heart.

Wait, Josh tweets? Do I find him under easywdw on Twitter? What other tweets should I sign up for to be prepared for Disney?

Don't rub it in ;)

I think it has been going fast too. We started our countdown calendar at 70 days and we only have 8 left. I blinked and it was gone.

Last time we flew I printed my boarding passes out at home the night before. I thought I was so prepared. We got to the airport 2 hours early and the lines were a bit long but I thought we were in plenty of time. We moseyed on down to our gate and got a drink on the way. We get there and we don't see my inlaws or anyone else for that matter. We asked and no one knew anything. Checked the flight board and it turned out they had moved our gate to the other side of the airport. I was such a novice flyer I didn't even know something like that could happen. We ran as fast as we could to the other side and barely made it. We were the last people to board. The plane left early actually. Now I know to check when I get to the airport.

Cool. We were originally supposed to tour the monorail resorts the night of the 15th, but we do have another chance to check them out the afternoon of the 19th if we want so hopefully we will get to see it.

I put raw garlic in everything, I should be the healthiest person on the planet, but my body doesn't agree. I'm definitely going to be downing my fruits and veggies over the next 7 days and I'm going to attempt to keep my hands away from my face too. I have a bad habit of rubbing my eyes.

When my oldest was a baby they said all ear infections needed antibiotics but by the time I had my younger two they said almost never.

Yes, the "latest" is that antibiotics not given for most ear infections. The only time my kids have ever taken an antibiotic was when they had strep throat.

Airport security question. Since I have not flown for about 8 years, and never with kids, I just had a moment of panic. I know that kids under 12 do not have to take their shoes off going through security, but do they have to do any of the other security checks besides the regular walk-through one? My husband, just yesterday mentioned some micro-something machine that you step into and spins around you while you hold your arms up? Please tell me this is not something they have kids do! I think we will have a problem if so! Anything we should be informed of to tell the kids about to prepare? We are leaving from Philly airport.

Kids don't have to do the spinny thing. Just the regular type. That was as of last year and in Minneapolis though. Things do change! But I doubt kids would have to go through that one. I didn't even have to last year since I was holding DD who was 17 months. I held her as we both walked through.

Direct from the TSA:

Screening procedures for passengers 12 and under include:

Allowing children 12 and under to leave their shoes on.
Allowing multiple passes through the walk through metal detector and advanced imaging technology to clear any alarms on children.
Using explosives trace detection technology on a wider basis to resolve alarms on children.

Hmmmm. Maybe if the airport doesn't have the old-style metal detector they have to do the "advanced imaging technology"?

Thanks for your response so I didn't get too panicked! ;) If I don't find anything airport specific tonight, I'm going to call the airport tomorrow.

A few years ago my DD wanted to go in the spinning thing, (she thought it would be fun), TSA however would not let her. The kids do have to be out of the stroller though, if they are not of walking age you have to carry them, if they can walk they have to walk on their own. DH always goes first and then DD, this way an adult is with her on each side. I get rather nervous :P

I think calling the airport is a very good idea. I know some of the airports have been very Autism Friendly so explaining that too would be helpful. OH do a google search to see if you can find the picture boards someone made for airport story boards. I bet all young kids would benefit from that.
I know I did when I saw it.

Never having had traveled in airport with kids, not sure how that is handled but I would suggest one adult go first, then send the kids through, then the second adult so that one of you is always on the other side.
Good luck. I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it.

Oh and don't be surprised if your kiddos want to take their shoes off like Mom and Dad do. LOL
