***Official November 2013 - Part II*** (that's right....we're that popular!)

I think calling the airport is a very good idea. I know some of the airports have been very Autism Friendly so explaining that too would be helpful. OH do a google search to see if you can find the picture boards someone made for airport story boards. I bet all young kids would benefit from that.
I know I did when I saw it.

Never having had traveled in airport with kids, not sure how that is handled but I would suggest one adult go first, then send the kids through, then the second adult so that one of you is always on the other side.
Good luck. I have a lump in my throat just thinking about it.

Oh and don't be surprised if your kiddos want to take their shoes off like Mom and Dad do. LOL

Yup. That's pretty much the feeling I've had since my husband mentioned this contraption! Total lump in my throat.
We do have a social story that was put together for my little big guy. Unfortunately, that particular scanner was not mentioned in that, or any of the books we have been reading. Yes, I want to make sure we can both stay with the kids going through. I don't think I could keep them all calm all by myself. I've got to get these kids to bed so I can research this some more so I can stay calm myself or this will never work!
Since none of my kids like wearing shoes (I think they all have sensory issues), I think you may be right about the shoe thing!

Hey look what I found from your airport. This is a good sign for you.

I'd be all over a check list kind of thing to see how many things you do in the airport and how many unexpected things you do. Maybe even scavenger hunt style and then on the way home another Wahooo lets see if coming home will be the same or different.

Of course my son is now a 21 year old smarty pants so I can't pull anything over on him like we used to. sigh. He'll even say "are you trying to manipulate me?" grrrr sure does make life one big challenge. Ya so not flying with him any time soon. I can see him telling off the TSA. And after LAX, ya nope. Not going to try.

If it makes you feel any better when we were in Miami in March they had the spinning machines and everyone was going through them. When the security man noticed dd7 he pulled our whole family aside and we went through the regular metal detector.

Does anyone know around what time MK does the fireworks for MVMCP? We have ADR's for Ohana on our last night (21st) and I'm thinking about trying to bump our time back so we can watch fireworks from Poly beach.

My family grew up in port Jeff station . My cousin Darren is. A Big wrestling coach from there'. I used to go to a bar across the street from that train station to hear bands . Small world ..I hear carolina is similar to Long Island in some neighborhoods ?

9:30 cause I thought the water parade was at 9pm. We actually have Ohana ADRs for that reason.

Airport security question. Since I have not flown for about 8 years, and never with kids, I just had a moment of panic. I know that kids under 12 do not have to take their shoes off going through security, but do they have to do any of the other security checks besides the regular walk-through one? My husband, just yesterday mentioned some micro-something machine that you step into and spins around you while you hold your arms up? Please tell me this is not something they have kids do! I think we will have a problem if so! Anything we should be informed of to tell the kids about to prepare? We are leaving from Philly airport.

When we flew out of PHL last year you could choose to go through the regular medal detector or the revolving scanner.

I would call just for your own peace of mind :goodvibes

Have you tried some raw garlic? Or 1 tbsp each of raw apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon juice, and raw honey? Or elderberries or rose hips? Those are my go-to cold treatments. Sorry, but when you suggested essential oils and breast milk for the EI, I figured we were both kinda crunchy. ;-)

Elderberry, honey, lemon, zinc, oil of oregano and some homeopathics. I think that's what's keeping it at bay. It's just not kicking it out this time though.

I did end up going to a doc today and have a prescription in my purse just in case. I'm giving it another 24 hours to ship out :P ;)

I'll consider the garlic and apple cider vinegar. Thanks for the suggestion :) I was thinking some extra probiotics and maybe even grapefruit extract too?! I'm at my wits end with it.

Well, I packed the kid's suitcase. I packed almost two outfits a day. It's full! I'm rethinking it now and wondering if I should pare right down and do a load of laundry while at WDW instead?

IMO, that seems a bit long to still be a cold. Have you ever suffered from allergies? Sometimes that can move into upper respiratory system. Maybe try zyrtec OTC for a day or two. If that doesn't do it, I'd head to the Doc. Raw local honey too, not regular. I also do emergen c packets every morning. Available at any drug store.

I last flew 3 years ago and we didn't have to go through any special screening out of Newark, but the back scatter machines weren't installed at every entrance then IIFC. Even if you are chosen to go through the machines, you can choose to have a pat down instead. Not sure which is worse.

Like Rejoyce said, Holiday Wishes start at 9:30 our week. I was originally looking for an Ohana reservation on the 15th to watch them from there, but my kids looked at the menu and said no way. We are going to the Whispering Canyon Cafe instead now, but we will be done in plenty of time to make it over to the poly to see the EWP and fireworks after dinner.

Me too I can't believe it's so close Sheilby this time next week we can both say we're going to Disney tomorrow pixiedust:

I know, right? So exciting!

My oldest made himself a LGMH tonight and laminated it. He put it on a rainbow loom bracelet and attached it his fanny back (I swear he choose it, I had nothing to do with it). He looks like the biggest geek tourist now - it totally cracks me up. He's 13 and doesn't care a hoot about what other people think, he thinks a fanny back with two water bottles on it is practical so he is going to wear it. I wish I cared less about what others thought when I was his age.

I think I am only packing clothes for 5 days (we will be there 8) with a couple of extra t-shirts. We will just do a couple of loads of laundry while we are there. We are staying in a 2 bedroom villa so we have the washer/dryer right in our room. if you play your cards right I may let you pop over to OKW and use my washer ;)

We're still here at WDW (Day 6!), so I've missed a lot of posts the last couple days. I did want to clarify a couple things I read...

(1) The ADR no-show fee is $10 -- period. Not per person. If a single member of your party shows up, you don't get charged the fee. So, if someone's sick, the rest can go and be fine, or if you have to cancel on short notice, it's not so big a deal. If it is less than 24 hours (midnight the night before seems to be the actual rule), try calling or going to the restaurant and explaining any extenuating circumstances. (I also heard a CM tell someone the other day that it was no charge for a walk-up cancellation because her computer was down...)

(2) The GF gingerbread house is under constructing now, about a week earlier than last year. It still looks not to be officially open until 12/15 or 16, but it is well under way and we're happy to be able to see more than the frame we saw being assembled on our last day last trip.

(3) It appears MK is doing special holiday events this week ahead of the start of MVMCP, with a special castle lighting show and dance party last night that are rumored to continue through Saturday. So, if you're here, try to stick around. We'll be there Thursday night and again Friday for the first party, so fun times ahead. MK is fully decorated and the music is in full holiday mode.

(4) Misc.: KTTW cards continue to be able to pull paper FPs along with FP+. Paper FPs for popular rides are indeed gone by 9, 9:30 or 10 a.m. now. TSMM FPs were at 6:40 return time at 9:40 on Saturday and gone before 9:45. Make sure to get your FP+ and get paper FPs first thing if you are doing that. Peter Pan remains closed as scheduled but I still have hopes it might open a day or two early. The railroad has reopened as the updated schedule indicated. Sorcerers players/collectors who attended MNSSHP on 11/1 also got last year's party card, but we were given both this year's and last year's MNSSHP cards when we got our daily set yesterday, so if you want these limited edition cards, try to stop by the fire station and pick them up. Refrigerators have been restored at Pop, but there is some painting/door/lock maintenance going on.

Have fun everyone!

Thanks for your response so I didn't get too panicked! ;) If I don't find anything airport specific tonight, I'm going to call the airport tomorrow.

My son has never had to do anything except walk through the regular detector. They don't even make all adults walk through the full imaging one because it would be too slow.

But really they've reduced some of the requirements on kids because no one wants screaming, freaked out kids in the airport. No worries.

Pinch me. I had to actually double check. 10 days until Disney!!!:cool1:

DH and I spent yesterday together as it was our official anniversary. That was the best gift he could offer me cause I know his job is important.

I feel like I'm climbing the final steps to board the plane. I keep talking about packing but haven't done that yet. Funny how months ago I had all kinds of lists and such to make sure I don't forget anything. Now I'm in a don't over pack mood so I'm not even looking at lists. It's only a week and I'll do just fine.

Off to my day.
