***Official November 2013 - Part II*** (that's right....we're that popular!)

Be warned , once you stay at the POLY it will be very hard to stay anywhere else.

So I had to get into a major discussion with the managers of my company and pretty much had the threaten to quit to keep the work place safe. I eventually won the argument, but for a day or so it looked like I might have to cancel our trip......

All that stress led me to now have a cold , 3 days before we leave.

Why does this kind of thing always happen right before a much needed trip?????

I'm pumping airbourne in hopes that if I get anything I'll bounce back quick.
I do have some allergy stuff going. That is not making me happy. Taking allergy meds in hopes at least the sinus headache goes away.

Stress is not my friend. Lots of it around here too.
Be well.

It would be $50 or $10/pp since there is 5 of us. DD is allergic to Penicillin but wow, how do you get amoxicillin for whenever you travel? You must have a very liberal pediatrician. Our docs hardly ever give out antibiotics, like they are gold, and also feel ear infections should run their course. Sometimes they will give us a prescription but not always.

I know some people that order it for their pets (no prescription needed) just so they can have it in case of emergency - I kid you not. Hope your DD sleeps a long time and wakes up feeling great.

My dr always told me if its an ear thd kids need antibiotics . If its a cold it should run its course

Newer studies have shown that over 80% of ear infections will clear up on their own in a couple of days. Most pediatricians these days won't prescribe them anymore (or at least are supposed to according the the AAP), but numbing drops are available for the pain.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope it all works out.

Giant sad face!

I read on three blogs that the gingerbread house would be up between Nov 8-12th. I guess not.

Yesterday I saw a picture that showed that the ginger bread house at the grand Floridian just started being put together yesterday. The picture showed the white frame being set up. I'm not sure how long it takes but we are having dinner there on Nov. 23rd and I'm praying it's finished by then.

I just read my Disney Destinations email I got today and it lists the holiday activities. This is one of the things it says:

• Giant gingerbread houses and holiday décor at select Disney Resort hotels, November 27–January 2, 2014

I was hoping they would do this earlier than the 27th! It seems much later than usual, doesn't it?

I know there was a massive one up at Thanksgiving in 2007 at the GF. There was actually a gift shop set up INSIDE of the gingerbread house.

Actually the AMA has repeatedly stated that most Otitis Media (ear infections) do NOT require antibiotics.

Most MD's write prescription for antibiotics solely because they do not want to hear people complain about an illness that will self resolve in a week, and because the rare case that a viral infection will lead to a bacterial infection....they do not want to be sued.

Unfortunately, this is leading to increased rates of antibiotic failure and resistance, which could kill thousands.

As a side note, please be very careful about posting medical advice if you do not have a degree, your home remedies could be harmful to people in certain situations. We all want to help, but personal experience is never a good reason to make medical recommendations.

Hi fellow November Disers!

I am in WDW right now and want your opinions on 2 matters.

After dinner my 5yo got very tired, felt very hot, and complained of a headache and ear pain. It seems like she's coming down with an ear infection.

I gave her Tylenol and have some OTC meds but don't know what to do with her if she worsens tomorrow. Have your little ones ever needed to see a doctor in WDW and where do you go?

:goodvibes

The Disney doctors are fantastic. We got a number from the concierge at our resort and called them when we were there (DD dislocated her arm). They were amazing. Hope your little one is better quickly!!

Speaking of illness.....

I've had a cold for 15 days. It's definitely better but still lingering in my sinuses and a bit in my chest.

I've got two days to decide to see a doc or not.

I never take meds (like maybe once a decade) but this cold has just latched on!

Sounds like a sinus infection. I'm not a medication person, either, but I don't mess around with sinus infections. I've made that mistake too many times. I would get in quickly, and get that taken care of!!

1 - TOTALLY agree. I can't imagine staying anywhere else now. We'll be at the Poly for the second time in 2 1/2 weeks!! Even with the construction going on, I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

2 - So sorry you are sick. I still have 18 days, but I woke up sick this morning. I hope you are well quickly and am just praying my family gets through this before we travel!

I'm a certified medical assistant and that's how they do it in my office with ear infections on little kids . I totally agree with no giving antibiotics for colds and things to that nature because you can't cure a cold. My office only gives the antibiotic if there's an upper resp involved.
