Official May 17th Alaska Cruise Thread!

do the cruises limit the number of infants they can have? trying to get my niece on the cruise but not finding any showings for 5/17 for any children under 2

We'll do it with you. 2 of us.
Hi Everyone!

Let's chat about brunch! :cool1:

I know some of you have already booked brunch. (Lucky you!) This invitation is for you, as well as those who have not.

DH and I REALLY want to do Palo Brunch, however, since we booked late, there are of course absolutely no reservations available.

When we cruised on the Wonder in November, a fellow DIS member had organized a group and booked the private dining room at Palo for brunch. It was gorgeous, wonderful, incredible service, and one of the highlights of our 4 days. We also got to meet some fun DISers!

I called DCL to inquire about how to arrange this. I was told that we needed to have a group of 12 people who wanted to eat brunch, collect their names and reservation numbers, and then submit the request via fax. If available for any day, they would then book us the room.

So.... anyone want to get together as a group and have brunch in the private room at Palo? I will arrange all the details and to the "legwork" in booking it. I *believe* if you already have a reservation for brunch it can just be moved to be part of the group - but I will call tomorrow to confirm that if it applies to anyone.

Thanks for considering a group brunch in the private Palo room. It could be a lot of fun!

I don't want to be a party pooper, but DH and I already have brunch booked, I think it's for our Tracy Arm day, too. Since this is a celebration for us, I don't want to give it up. I hope you are able to get a group together. If we were "just" on vacation (I know, no such thing!) we would be interested in joining.

I would LOVE to do a Palo brunch and would appreciate being included with the group! I am sailing solo and thought that I would miss Palo. Please include me.

Thanks

Insides are sold out, a few outsides and all balcony are on gty status until you hit 4B and higher!

I guess its filling up - I know last night there were about 6 inside room numbers available, yet no assignment for me yet- I really think they are holding the walt or roy suite for us!!!! LOL
All I really hope for is aft or middle - not a big fan of the front - get quite seasick up there!

The private room brunch at Palo was really one of the highlights of our cruise on the Wonder last year. The service was just unmatched anywhere. Truly incredible. They provided those of us in the group with any request we had. Just wonderful. The room was special and it was fun to share with DISers.

We need a minimum of 12 to book the room.

I am game for anything like that - I do know that someone added me as a 3rd today...
I saw. That was very kind of kris3kid. Yay for you! :cool1: I was not sure if your reply meant to count you in the group or not. If you would like to join us, let me know. Of course, if kris3kid and her mom would like to join, that would be great too! :goodvibes

Fantastic! I'll put you on the list.

I understand it being not "just" a vacation, it's the same for us. This is a giant celebration for me and DH as well. Yay for amazing celebration cruises!

Terrific! You are "in" for the brunch.

We need 7 more to book the private room. I just hung up with a cast member at DCL and he said that if anyone has an existing Palo brunch reservation and wants to us, we would add you to the list, your reservation would transfer to the group. However, if for some reason we were unable to get the group reservation, your individual reservation would remain in place.

If anyone would like to join us, we would love to have you. Couples, singles, families (age 18 and up), everyone is welcome. Also, if you know someone who is not on DIS, but is on this cruise, they are welcome to join us as well. Just let me know.

Ok put me on the brunch list to help get you to 12 I will force myself to eat it twice. LOL. As long as it does not land on Tracy arm day.

Unfortunately, DCL does not allow you to book two brunches whether in the main Palo dining room or the Palo private room. They will only allow one Palo brunch per person per cruise. If you chose to do the group brunch in the private Palo room it would replace your regular Palo brunch reservation. Let me know.

Now I'm worried as this is our first cruise and we are up front...didn't even realize that when we booked...from what I've read...the ships are supposed to be pretty stable and big, aren't they??

Any suggestions on how to make sure we're prepared?

I was on a carnival ship that is a bit smaller than DCL and were near the front and was really sick to my stomach. My daughter ws fine.
I researched when I got home and found that mid-aft is better for people who get sea sick.
At night in the theater on DCL, I would have a gingerale while watching the show, just to be sure I would be fine.

Bring some ginger gravol with you or dranamine and pop one before you go to sleep, and you will be fine!

:dance3: Woohoo! DISBoards Party in Lollipop's Suite! :dance3:

Is it still adults only? and how much is it??
18 and older

Pricing, according to DCL web site:
"An additional charge is required to dine at Palo:
Dinner: $20 dining charge, per person
Brunch: $20 dining charge, per person
High Tea: $10 dining charge, per person
Please note prices are subject to change without notice."

And for what it's worth, my DH and I decided $20 at Palo was one of the best deals in the world! Would you like to join our brunch group?

Ships are stable and big, however, they are a ship in the middle of a LOT of water. When the water gets rocky, the ship has stabilizers that assist in reducing the movement, but it still moves somewhat as it is floating. Depending upon your sensitivity, you may be affected. I thought my DH would get a little "woozy" so I got seasick patches from our doctor prior to our last cruise. Guess who was the one feeling it on our first day? Yep! Me! :upsidedow

I would let your doctor know you are going on a cruise and concerned about the motion. Ask what s/he recommends. There are patches, pills, and bracelets that can assist.

Include ME in the Palo brunch!!!!!!! I just sent you a pm with my room # and names.

We loved the brunch on our May 2010 cruise! The brunch is amazing and the bonus will be the scenery from the windows in the restaurant. Palo has the best view on the ship!!!!

If you do not have a Palo brunch reservation - do not miss this opportunity!

I enjoy Palo but the brunch is a little better since you have the buffet items and then you can still order from the menu (a smaller Palo dinner menu). Also they have a grape + blue cheese pizza that is amazing. I dreamed about the pizza for 1 year. The following year I was on a 3 nt. cruise that did not offer the brunch. When we went to Palo for dinner it was not on the menu since it is exclusive to the brunch. I politely asked my waitress if they could accomodate my cravings and Yipee the chef made one for me!!!! The service in Palo is fantastic!!!!!

I created a spreadsheet of the FE list.
I'll continue to update it between now and the final list.

Download and Print Version:
Click here to download the PDF file.
Click here to download the Excel file.

The links are also be posted with the FE list on Page 5.

Please view the list and make sure all your information is there.
I know there are stateroom numbers and dining times that need to be entered.

Thanks,
Nick

In regards to sea sickness, I've heard from people that the bracelets don't work. The patches are prescription only in the US & are pricey unless you have good insurance. If you want pills over the counter, there is Dramamine or Bonine (meclizine).

For those who have been on the Wonder before, are the pools heated or covered?

If by some chance I haven't sent you the mickey heads with your names on them and the image of the Wonder for the group's T-shirts then please remind me. If you've just joined our group or would like to make a shirt for you and your family members please let me know.

I'm doing these images for anyone on this cruise and you do not have to be participating in the FE.

We're getting closer to our sail date!!!!!

The pools are heated, but not covered. Just open air pools.
The stateroom TVs (on a certain ch) will show current pool temps.

There are two hot tubs in the adult only pool area as well.
