This will be our 7th visit in 10 years. We always go about the same time - the last week of January - and stay for a week. Weather has usually been good - especially coming from the frozen tundra. Last year was downright cold! We wore jeans and jackets nearly everyday - with scarves and gloves most of the time.
I'm praying that we get some better weather this year! Most years we've taken one day and headed to Cocoa Beach so the kids can swim in the ocean.
We've always done a dining plan because I LOVE the all-inclusive feel of it - I'm very budget conscious, so ordering whatever I want without having to look at the price is very appealing to me. And I like knowing, before I go, what I'll be spending.
A few years back we changed from the DDP to the QSDP because we realized that we were spending too much time worrying about ADRs and really wanted more flexibility.
We also do hoppers every trip. We'll usually spend the first four days doing one park per day, then the last few days are spent hopping from one park to another. Last year we did all four parks, swimming at our resort, the Boardwalk and Downtown Disney in one day! We especially love watching Wishes and then hopping on the monorail to Epcot in time to watch Illuminations. For us, this alone is worth the cost of the hoppers.
Even though we stay on-site, we always rent a car. Our first year, we didn't and the buses were just too awful! For $150/week it's one thing I'd never compromise on.
After our first experience last year, we are firmly in the pro-FP+ camp. I wish they would give a little more flexibility when it comes to park hopping, but we still think the change has benefited our style of touring the parks.
Magicbands were a real hit with our family! We LOVED the ability to open room doors or get into the park or charge to our room or use a FP+ or photopass WITHOUT having to dig a card out of someone's pocket everytime. It's the little things!
I LOVE helping friends and family plan their DisneyWorld vacations, so if anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer them!
