OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

I loved the people who were running the marathon who congratulated me. We were in DHS, and I was shocked the folks were together enough to see that I had a half medal!

Oh yeah! We were at the Yacht and Beach Club which I think is something like Mile 25? CRAZINESS! Though I plan to be just as crazy in January!
 
I got very choked up doing my first half which happened to be in and around my home town. The people that came out to cheer us on was amazing and really kept me going when I felt like giving up. Then when I turned the corner for the last quarter of a mile to the finish, it was wall to wall people. My first race was a fabulous experience!

Unfortunately my DH couldn't be there to see me in my first race. He's a former marathoner and I would have loved for him to be there. It turned out that he was able to call me at mile 12. I had my ear buds in from my phone and he talked me thru to the finish. I shared with him all that I was experiencing and seeing as it happened instead of retelling it later. Very special!
 
Really looking foward to my first half, and then first full. Found a person post every mile marker on the trip report site. I actually went through her trip report several times, and as I train I try to visualize myself on that specific section of the marathon for incentive.

Just curious, does Disney pipe music over the speakers during the marathon? If so, how much of the marathon is it? Just the parks? Or on the roads too? Just curious.
 

Is September 29th the projected date for the Wine & Dine half?

I think that will be my first WDW run!:banana:

I loved the Wine and Dine course - though it was still really hot at 10:00! My best advice: figure out beforehand what to eat for dinner on race day!

Completed my longest run to date yesterday....8 miles. I know it's nothing for the seasoned runner but for me it's quite a distance starting from scratch. Crazy sore today but overall not too bad. 10 months to work up to 13.1 and so far doing it at a walk/run pace of 14:30 so I'm really starting to feel like I can get this done. The only crazy thing is the more I seem to run the more weight I'm actually gaining. Definitely need to work on that. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this thread for keeping me inspired.

The weight you're gaining *might* be muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Are your clothes feeling tighter or looser? Maybe I'll see you on the course in Jan. It will be my 4th Half.

Wow, now there's a name from the past. Tracey is great. How are things with you?

I wish it was only muscle. Clothes are slowly getting tighter. More of a diet issue I think. I tend to be eating slightly more as the running makes me hungrier. I have lots of time to lose it but would prefer to never gain it in the first place.;) I'll keep an eye out for you in January. I'll be the one you're flying past on the outside. Congrats on prepping for your 4th half. I'm afraid once I do one I may be hooked. Could be worse additions I would think.
 
I'm sorry to say that I always gain weight when training for a race. I usually lose it in that final month though when my mileage ramps up a lot.

You are doing great to have already done 8! Yes, it is something, even for the seasoned runner!:thumbsup2

There are lots of live bands along the race route. Especially on the more boring stretches. I don't remember music in the parks, but there might have been some.
