OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

I'm hoping to find a Disney themed tech ball cap at the expo. That will be costume enough for me.

I'm thinking about signing up for the 5k since it's Three Caballeros themed. My concern is getting my packet on Thursday since we are scheduled to arrive around 3 and the expo closes at 7. If I signed up and our flight was delayed would there be any way to sway Disney into letting me pick it up somewhere in the morning, or even have it delivered to the hotel?

stitchfan18,

I picked up my 5k bib last January race day morning. It's probably best to e-mail them if they're still offering that option.

Nope.

Thanks for the feedback. I know there are lots of people on here who have had different experiences, so I emailed Disney to see what they would say about it. I told them the situation and let them know that I planned to attend the expo on Thursday already, but wanted to know if there was any way to get a 5k bib if flights were delayed and we couldn't make it to the expo before close on Thursday. I'll post what I hear back from them.

It's not the end of the world if I can't do the 5k. I mentioned it to DH last night and he was concerned that I would hurt myself doing so much running in one weekend. The funny thing about it is that he simply told me to have fun when I told him about Goofy, and didn't seem the least bit concerned. I guess the extra 5k makes me a really hardcore athlete in his eyes.:rotfl:

My 305 came today. It is currently charging. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow evening.

You should enjoy your 305. Take some time to explore the options and functions of the unit. It has helped my running by making it easy to track results.

Have a good run.

In past years they've had pick-up for the 5k the morning of the race. You'd still have to go to the expo to get your Goofy stuff.

I love my 305. It may be the best running-related purchase I've ever made. Your response reminded me that I went for months and months never doing anything more than letting it track my time and distance, uploading the data, and looking at the pretty graphs and maps. Then, finally, I discovered how to program workouts so I could do intervals on the road with it telling me when to start and stop (instead of vice versa), or have it beep at me when my pace was too fast on the first few miles of a 20-miler (but letting me pick it up toward the end if I felt up for it).

My point being, do your best to learn about its capabilities, but don't feel like you're missing out if all you do is track time and distance at first. You can figure out the rest over time.

I concur with it being the best running purchase I've made (although I bought a 405 because I like the smaller size). It allows me to go do my run anywhere, without having to be concerned with distance on a new route or where interval markers are. No need to run the same route all the time.

Its also especially nice when I'm traveling, because I can just step out the front door of the hotel and start running. The feature to guide you back to your starting point is great.

Disney released their January discounts today. You can get up to 35% on Deluxe and 20% on value, 40% for AP holders. They had All-Star Sports at $78 for Friday and Saturday night. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Polynesian was $1043 before tax, Beach Club is $995, Grand Floridian $1,218.

There is not but I'm sure you could find someone from these boards that would be willing to get the packet for you. You'll have to get them the waiver and a copy of your ID but with so many people here I'm sure someone would volunteer.

I agree here. I was away last week due to work. It was great to have with me since I could get up and just start running without be concerned about the route. I have also used it a few times when I have taken my DW to do some shopping. She goes shopping, I go running. It works out well for both of us. :lmao:

I agree. It has really help me enjoy running. My DW bought one last year and when I researched it for mine I found that it really seems to be the best option for the price. Enjoy...

Thanks Captain! Just called and adjusted my reservation to take advantage of the discount. I appreciate the heads-up. Hope your training is going well.

Yay, have fun with the new toy! I got mine a few months ago, and I love it.

I switched from a non-discounted standard room at Sports for $330 (since that's the only rack rate I was willing to pay) to a 30% off Garden View at POR for $430. Staying 3 nights, Friday-Monday. Very happy with the upgrade!

I just got my 305 and used it for the first time at the Wine & Dine Half marathon. It was flawless and VERY helpful. Enjoy!

Now that I can finally run outside, I am looking forward to using it to train for the Marathon relay!

I use a non-GPS Garmin. Great training tool.

Thanks for the AP discount heads up. Changed my Pop ressie. Every little bit helps!

Had a great run this morning. Cool morning temps are just wonderful. Hills seemed to flatten before me ; )

Hope everyone's training is going well.
