OFFICIAL January 2012 5K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Goofy or Dopey Challenge Thread

That's the medal for the half. I believe the marathon is staying the same...until the anniversary next year.

I can't remember where I read it, but I swear I read somewhere that this year there would be all new medals. They could just be talking about the fact that the 1/2 has a new medal, along with inaugural chip & dale medals. I'm just curious if they'll keep the design from last year or go back to the older design.

Okay, I knew I wasn't crazy. At the end of this video around 5:00 in they say that all finishers of every race receive brand new medals...

Oh wow I feel like a dope now! I saw it online and could have sworn that was the marathon medal. I didn't realize it said 2012 (with a 1/2 in there). So when I went up to the booth I just looked it and went, yepp there it is, to the Donald one! Wish I would have looked at the right one!

Sorry I was no help!

Here is a picture of all the 2012 Marathon Weekend Medals that was posted on facebook.

Thanks for posting the link. I missed seeing that when it was posted last week. I'm not sure I understand the comment in the youtube video I posted about every event having a new medal. As far as I can tell the only difference between the mickey and goofy medals is the ribbon color...

Last year was my first WDW Marathon, so anyone correct me if I'm wrong. But if think the previous medals were the same from year to year with a hanging attachment that designated the year. Last year was the first year the marathon medal had the year incorporated into the design. Now it looks as if they are all that way.

Anyone run the Rock n Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon yesterday? I finished with a PR of 2:17:44! The flat course certainly helps. It was a great race and I'm definitely going to look into more from the Rock n Roll competitor series.

Great job! Congratulations on your PR!

I find that amazing! I don't see how you can go up to 10 miles without water. You must be part Kenyian, lol.
That would be tough to do down here when I am running in 100 degree temps at 8:00PM.
Good luck on your upcoming races.

I never take water either, I truly believe my body is clever enough to cope up to 12mileish(depends on weather) without water.

I had a great run up north yesterday for the moray half marathon, I finished in 2hrs 9mins, best effort yet! one of these days I will crack 2hrs!

RunDisney had a booth at the expo with all the medals. I got a sneak peek of the marathon medal!

Great getting to see medals!!! bet that was exciting.
2hrs 17mins, thats pretty good, well done.

What/why are they rock and roll? do they play music or what? is it the same folks that run them all over the usa? Ive seen them before differant places.

Oh no, if I were part Kenyan I'd get to that 10 mile mark a lot sooner. Once I get to the longer miles I wait until dark and go out. I made the mistake once of doing a 10 miler while the sun was up and it was in the 90's. I made it but felt like garbage and by the end I was doing more of a shuffle than a run.

Hey there Speedy Gonzalez, your shuffle speed is some of our run speed....

Officially signed up for the Donald at the DL ½ Expo on Friday. No turning back now. I held the new Donald medal in my hand. (The Chip 'n Dale, too for that matter) And as if I wasn't already planning on doing it, I had to hand over my credit card to the runDisney folks....

What a difference 25 degrees makes! Four miles this morning and it was great - especially the last mile. Hello fall!

Congratulations WriteDisney! I'll add Virginia Beach to my flat list ; )

On the water question, I carry a bottle on all my runs. It's just there. Some days it ends empty, others not so empty, others it gets filled and emptied. Just depends.

I am sorry if this isn't the right place or if its been asked before...but has anyone signed up for the marathon at another race's expo. I did this past weekend in VA beach and was curious how long it typically took to get your entry registered since it was hand written and they enter it manually...

Thanks :goodvibes

I signed up for both the 2011 Disneyland ½ and the 2011 Wine & Dine ½ at the 2011 Princess Expo. It took about eleven days for me to get my e-mail confirmation that I was registered. Thankfully I wasn't on pins and needles all that time because I was playing in WDW.

I did also just sign up for the 2012 Donald ½ this past weekend at the DL Expo. The runDisney rep that took my form and said it would take about two weeks.

Hope that helps.

How could I forget to tell you all that I done the cold bath thing

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I nearly chickened out but I done it, legs are bit better than normal I think but its hard to tell.

I hear you. I am going to run as soon as I get home from work today. I don't have to wait until 8:00PM for it to cool off some.

You should! I'm thinking of doing the DC Rock n Roll this spring after the Disney marathon.

Did u run the VA Beach this weekend too? What a great time!

Great job! Congratulations on your PR!

Thanks! It's the Rock n Roll Competitor Series that holds the event. They hold races across the country (Vegas, DC, Philly, etc) and they have bands along the course. No huge names along the course, but some were kids in local bands which was very cute! They also did a concert series that weekend, bands along the VA Beach boardwalk. The big groups after the race were Tonic and Bret Michaels (yes THE Bret Michaels!).

I highly recommend!

I'm enjoying everyone's hydration stories. I need to start figuring out what to eat, when. I have to start trying out some of the gels and stuff.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a theme for the 5k this year? I'm been hearing it referred at the family fun run 5k, but thought there was usually a theme with the race that changed each year. I'm still debating on adding it to my event list that weekend.

They seem to wait until closer to the date to release the theme of the 5K.

Wasn't someone throwing around the suggestion that it was a Three Cabelleros theme? I don't know who it was or how they said they knew but I thought I read that somewhere.:confused3
