Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

They usually don't have runner tracking ready till two days before the race. I have remembered it becoming available usually a day before the expo begins and they have a sign up for it at the expo.

That is my recollection as well.

We're leaving Thursday. What is everyone doing for their light runs this week? I think I may run Tuesday night but not sure for how long. I have a tendency to want to run 4 miles as that's my usual. Not sure if that's too long for this week. I then won't run until the race as walking around WDW will be enough to keep me loose.

Does anyone use KT tape on a regular basis? Since I've been dealing (unsuccessfully) with PF, I thought I would try taping my foot with KT tape for the race just to add some support to it and hopefully make it a little less painful. I know it's not a cure, but I can't get in to see a podiatrist until I get back from this trip. My question is, is it something I would need to get used to...or do you not even notice it's there really? Race day will likely be the first time I try it out...not ideal, but :confused3 It comes off easily though, right? Kind of like a band-aid maybe? I figure I can always just rip it off mid-race if it's giving me problems. I was kind of bummed to see the KT tape people weren't going to have a booth at the expo...I seem to recall seeing them at the halfs in the past...was hoping to let one of them tape me up...but I guess I'll just make do with the instructional video on their website.

If you must know...I bought the hot pink tape!!! :lmao: I was going to go for a few different colors, but the BF reminded me that at $13 a box, I could use that $$ for alcohol at the food & wine fest...which will likely work just as well for the pain, right? He's so wise. :rotfl2:

Whatever distance I can cover in 30 minutes - usually between 2.5 and 3.

Not regularly, but I did try it for my IT Band thing. It didn't help, but nothing really does, so I won't hold it against KT, lol! No getting used to, other than it took me a try before getting it on right. Once on, I never felt it at all. Yep, came off easily, too. Totally worth trying, IMO; there's no downside to it at all. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 That's my plan! :rotfl:

I got my Eco Lunchbox from Clif! Yay! Such a nice gift! I've read lots of complaints about Disney going to an igift bag as opposed to a traditional swag bag but I can't imagine getting more in a traditional bag than Clif has sent.

I think taper is a personal thing based on race goal.

Last Thursday was a 70 mile bike ride. Friday a 1.1 mile swim. Saturday a 55 mile bike ride. Yesterday a 4+ mike walk at a 10:20mpm pace then a 36 mile bike ride. Today a 10 mile food shopping bike ride. Tomorrow a 1 mile swim. Wednesday a 5 mile easy 11:00mpm walk. Thursday a 55 mile bike ride. Friday drive to WDW-FW then EXPO and then chill out in motorhome. Saturday have a relaxing day then start in corral A for ToT with a detour off of Osceola Pkwy. to McDonald's for a M&M McFlurry and back onto the course to finish the race.

Just a no pressure fun time weekend.

How much time do you lose for the McFlurry stop?

How much time do you lose for the McFlurry stop?

Should be less than my McFlurry stop during the Kentucky Derby Half Marathon this year. :thumbsup2 That one was right off the road but very crowded since it was breakfast time. 10 minutes for that stop.

I'm figuring 1 minute down the ramp to McD, 2 minutes to get it and 1.5 minutes back to course if I don't eat too much of it on the way back up. :rotfl:

I used KT tape last year for peroneal tendonitis and I thought it worked great. I didn't need to get used to it, I couldn't even notice it was on. You just need to make sure you don't have lotion or anything on your skin before you get it one or it won't stick. I also put it on my mom for PF and she loves it. She says it really supports her foot and she doesn't hurt. I would say give it a try before you run, maybe just wear it around during your daily activities and see how it goes. Good luck!

:rotfl2: Looking at the course map, I pointed out to a friend that I'm SURE a bunch of folks will be making a detour to McD's! :thumbsup2

Just thought I'd share...for anyone that's been going through alot of shoes trying to find the right pair...and you were not able to return for whatever reason...post them on ebay! I just sold a pair :cool1: As long as they are still fairly clean and you honestly report the mileage on them, you could at least make some of the $$ back. Mine had 17 miles on them and I just sold them for $47...they retail for $110, so I was close to getting 50% back....then minus the $2 it cost me to list it. It might be addicting too...I'm eyeing everything in my house now wondering how much I could make! :lmao:

It's posts like these that really make me wish the DIS had a "like" button!:thumbsup2

Can you tell what this is? I looked at the online gift bag and didn't see this. There was a thing where you could sign up for the Clif pace team, but when I went to the page it did not include the ToT race in the list you could choose from. How did you get your gift, and what is it? Thanks. :)

On another subject, DH wants to know if we get drinks at the party after the race like you do after the Food and Wine race. Does this thing come with a beer or two? Or is everything pay-as-you-go?

I am also seeking the runner tracker link. Guess I'll check later.
Is this off of the Active.com web page? I recall using it for the Half in Jan.

Yes I do like the ECO lunchbox also. :)

I did the same thing. The only Disney race listed was Disneyland half. I just selected it since TOT wasn't listed. I figured they wouldn't have included the link if they didn't want us taking the offer.

I too wondered if we'd get a beer at the finish. If not, hopefully I can get one somewhere in the park.

I don't think there will be any additional beverages offered at the finish line, other than the usual powerade and water. It haven't read anything about alcoholic beverages being offered at the finish, and they advertised that pretty well as a selling point for the Wine & Dine...and it was fitting with the theme for that race...not so much for this one. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a spot to purchase one at the party though :)
