Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

I did my 11 miles tonight! It's the farthest distance I've ever gone. It was quite the adventure, and I turned everything into a positive and had *fun*! until it turned super pitch dark and I realized the running paths I've run what seems like a million times aren't lit. At all. For loong stretches! It really slowed me down, talk about walk by faith not by sight! :goodvibes I was determined to go the distance though!

I wore my black diamond Sparkle tech skirt for the first time, it came in the mail yesterday and I love, love, love it! It did not ride up a millimeter, I'm so impressed! My girls told me it looks looks like a disco ball. I love it!
Now I'm really excited about my trip, the race and celebrating my 20th Anniverary with DH!

AmotherPrincess, I'm so glad you decided to make the change and switch and that you're happy!

I am really excited and wanted to share what just picked up. I found a local lady that made me a Tutu. I decided to dress up like the Queen of hearts and here is what I have so far. I plan on adding a few things to the tutu still, and fix a shirt but I love what she was able to do.

CUTE tutu! That will be a fun costume!

Minniebeth, Wow! Way to stick with it in the dark! My imagination always gets the best of me when I run in the dark!

I had a fantastic 11-mile run today! No tummy issues or chafing!!! it's a miracle! :thumbsup2 I ran the whole time and kept an average pace of 11:33. Yay! I am so excited for this race! Only 5 short training runs to go! Great work, everyone!

I did my first half marathon yesterday:cool1:

I found out there was a half in my hometown that would run along the route I would be training on for the TOT. I decided to do it about 13 weeks ago and tried to follow Hal Hidgens 12 week training plan but the summer was too much and I had to slow down. The last couple of long runs I did were horrible due to the heat and humidity and I really wanted to quit.

Unforunately I had talked a coworker into doing it with me and she got two others committed to. Once everyone at work kept asking me if I was doing it I decided to just do it and have fun, walk as much as I needed and go at my own pace.

It went much better than I expected.I got to the half way point around 1:15 and felt pretty good. I jogged most of it with a few 30 second breaks. Around mile 8 I knew I would have to walk more to finish so I jogged between 3-5 minutes and took 1-2 minute walking breaks.

Around mile 10 my foot hurt and I was tired but was strong enough to finish usually jog/walk intervals. The last .1 was on sand:crazy2: I tried to jog it but had to stop to walk b/c I felt like I was wobbling all over the place. DH asked me "who stops to walk with the finish line 100 yards away" Um, I do?

Anyway- final time was 2:46 which I am VERY happy with after my training went much worse than I expected. It would have been around 2:44 but there wasn't enough signage and we took a wrong turn due to a confusing sign and had to turn around:confused3

I only started running last year at this time using the C25K and can't believe how far I came. As soon as I was done I was thinking of how I could improve my time for the half next year which means it couldn't have been too bad.

Overall pace was 12:44 which is awesome since my long runs were around 13:30-13:50. But that is too slow to submit a time at the expo right?

I'm going to do 4 more 3 mile runs and then, it's on to the TOT run:cool1:

I will be staying at BLT and will not have a car. I had planned to take a cab to BWI and then walk over to HS from there. Anyone see any problems with this plan? I got the race day information today and it says to go to ESPN and take a bus from there but if I'm going to pay a cab fee anyway I would rather not deal with the busses. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I think that's a great plan. We are going to do something similar from AoA but we may take a can to the All-Stars and just bus it...we will see how it goes.

Here are the road closure time during the ToT 10 miler:
Osceola Pkwy East and West from 8pm to 1am
Victory Way (WWoS entrance) from 8pm to 1am (partial closure)
World Dr. ramps toward DHS 8pm to 2am
Ramps to DHS 192 Westbound ramp
World Drive northbound ramp from 8pm to 5am
Just give yourself enough time. Busses will start running from WWoS to DHS at 8pm so I would be there by then if that's what you are doing.

I am LOVING hearing about everyone's costumes coming together and all of the final long runs being completed!:banana::banana:

No costume here, but I did get a Team Sparkle skirt to make it a little more festive.

I, too, got in my final long "run" yesterday... it wasn't pretty, but I finished 8 miles doing 1/4mile walk/ 1/4mile run-walk intervals. My knee got really bad about mile 7, so I walked most of the last mile. Final tally: 14:22/mile average pace. Nowhere near the sub-12:00 I expected to be doing, but fast enough to allude the sweepers, right? I'll take it.

I'm happy to report that I have no lingering aftereffects in my knee; it was fine an hour afterward. Such a bizarre injury. And the temp was about 75... it felt WONDERFUL!!! The combination of a slower pace and lower temp meant that I wasn't remotely wiped-out by the end. Bodes well for the race, I think! :thumbsup2

I don't know about you guys, but I'm am very excited about 2 weeks without any long runs. LOL! I hope the reduced mileage will result in being able to do more running come race day. Happy tapering to all!

I would say submit it! I will be submitting my time from a 10k I did a month ago. (I was limping, so my time wasn't as good as I would have hoped) I contacted disneysports...and I was told it was good enough to submit and change my corral placement. My time was not that much less than yours... :thumbsup2

:cool1: WOO HOO! :cool1: Congrats on your first half! That's awesome! Way to go!

Those shirts are great!!! Originally my BF had the idea of running as a bellhop too, but we couldn't figure out how we'd make the shirt so he just scrapped the idea. I'm running in a Jack Skellington theme, but am still waiting on my earrings and bow :) I'll post a pic as soon as I have it all together!

:wave2: My sis and I met you at the EEC; you and Gabriella (?) looked so cute! We had on the long rainbow tutus.

This year I'm on a trip with DH. He'll be sleeping when I'm running the 5K dressed like Goofy (which he says is appropriate. :rotfl: ) I'll be dressed like Zombie Goofy at the party - maybe I'll see you there! :)

Hello all !

So I have been out of the loop with this thread for quite sometime ur am getting excited now that the race is right around the corner!! :woohoo: I will be doing this race with my 17 yr old son and husband. It is my husbands first race. I Did the Princess Half in 2011.

I will be dressing as Cruella de Ville for the race. I'm trying to convince my husband and son to dress as Dalmatians but they're not going for it! :confused3. Lol.

I have yet to do 10 miles since I hurt my back a few weeks ago. I am hoping just to finish the race without the sweepers getting me. I am hoping by being in corral b I will have a slight head start.

Its really motivating to see everyone's posts about their runs! :thumbsup2. I will have to keep coming around the forum to see what's going on!

That would be really cute if they would be the Dalmations!

Got my 10 mile long run in today. I never took any time off since the Disneyland 1/2 nor have backed down from the higher mile runs on the weekends. I've noticed that since Disneyland, my times have been slower than usual. I am officially tapering to give my legs a much needed rest. I am ready for the Tower of Terror run!

I did 7 miles today walking! I did it in 1 hour 50 minutes! I need to add some running in there, but I think I will be good!
I LOVE the map my walk app!! :)

I can't believe the race is so close! I am soo excited as I know everyone else is too! I wanted to throw this out there in case anyone's interested--the DH and I will be at SSR without a car, so if anyone else is there and wants to share a taxi, let me know!

I took a look in the virtual goodie bag and was surprised to find a few good items in there! :cool1:

Does anyone know if you can register for the Princess Half during the expo? If so is there a discount offered?

There may not be a discount. They may waive the active.com fees (as you are registering directly with runDisney). They may have promotional items to entice you to register.

If you are going to take a cab, I think your idea is best, within walking distance to the start. Why take two forms of transport when you can take one, and not have to worry about waiting or traffic jams?
