Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

Going out for my last long training run. It's 46 degrees here. I'm wearing tights and a long sleeve jacket. My right knee feels like it was smashed with a hammer. I've had this symptom before.

I hope your run went well! Smashed by a hammer does not sound like a very good feeling!!! Hang in there.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but are there any WISH meets planned? I tried to look back through the threads, but I didn't see anything....just checking :)

I started out slow and completed 12 miles in 1:47, which included walking up hills. My knee seems fine now. Officially on taper. Yay!!

Great job everyone who's finishing up training!!

I finally got our 'costumes' completed! We are official TOT Bellhops!

DH and I will be in corral C-say Hi if you see us!

Those shirts are great!!! Originally my BF had the idea of running as a bellhop too, but we couldn't figure out how we'd make the shirt so he just scrapped the idea. I'm running in a Jack Skellington theme, but am still waiting on my earrings and bow :) I'll post a pic as soon as I have it all together!

Was wondering if we wanted to meet up before the race? It starts at 10p, they want everyone in corrals by 9:15 (silly IMHO) so maybe around 8:30? I can take a look at the map and try to figure out a spot.

You've all been training hard for this! Everyone is gonna do awesome, everyone here has worked too hard to not complete what they've set out to accomplish. Whether that be the 5k, 10 miler or both of them on the same day. Just over two weeks until you all will be at the happiest place on earth, of all things running!

Thanks for that! Really motivational. We have all worked so hard.

My group running costumes are starting to come together, but there is still a lot to do! The race is coming up so quickly. Luckily these costumes are doubling as MNSSHP costumes, a quick trip through the wash and they'll be ready to party!

I thought the Villains Bash was only until 3 am, but now everything I'm looking at says 4 am! Am I going crazy?

Disneychix, those are great. Such a simple idea and easy implementation. I was trying to think of something around the Hollywood Tower Hotel. All I came up with was guests. That is what my sister and I are, glamorous guests of the HTH. The costume also needed to be runner friendly.

I took a look in the virtual goodie bag and was surprised to find a few good items in there! :cool1:

Does anyone know if you can register for the Princess Half during the expo? If so is there a discount offered?

I have only done one other Disney race (the Royal Family 5k in Feb) and I was able to sign up for this race then. I think they will have a computer there for you to sign up. I'm hoping to do it then too. There was no discount, but I got a large Run Disney shopping bag.

I was interested in the egift card too...seemed like a good idea since I've been meaning to buy my Tinker Bell Half pics anyway...but I couldn't really get it to work. I clicked where it said "purchase", but then it takes you to a screen to choose what year your race was, then what race it was, then you search for your pics...So you just end up in your gallery of pics, not an egiftcard purchase??? I don't understand. I'm gonna keep trying though and maybe give them a call if I have to because it's a decent deal. Did you try purchasing?

I got a reply from Brighton: "The E-gift card cannot be used with other offers, such as coupon codes. You are able to use it with a photo CD.
You can use the E-gift card for any event."

I still need to do the math to see if 20% off the CD is a better deal. I got several emails they were going to delete my 5k ones, which is when they sent me the 20% off code. (I just checked and they are still there.) If the offer is better, I will order them now I guess, one for now and one for the Princess 1/2.

Great job everyone who's finishing up training!!

LOVE the costume!! I thought about doing bellhops, but wasn't sure how. Are they moisture wick shirts? How did you attach everything?

Did my last long training run tonight - all 11 miles of it! I stuck to my 4/1 ratio throughout and felt pretty good when it was all over, except for the hips, and the knees, and the general "oof"ness. :) But I was so glad this one flew after my lousy attempt at 10 two weeks ago! Now I *know* I can do 10 (and ToT will be flatter than my course here) and am getting really psyched!

I went out in new Brooks (Adrenaline) tonight, too. I went back to the running store to check my stride now that I've been in support shoes for a while. The Adrenaline is still the right shoe, yay, but the ones I had were a little too small. Oh, so *that's* why I have a wonky toenail...so now I have swanky new Adrenalines that are 1 1/2 sizes over my street shoe size.

Time to crash before taking DDalmost8 out for her birthday tomorrow - mommy/daughter date at American Girl. Something tells me that could be rougher than the 11-mile run tonight... ;)

Happy running everyone!

XO

Just finished my last long run and it feels great to be in the home stretch. It was great because it was an organized group run in training for the half marathon I'm going in December. It was an out and back course with water stops. It was the first time I didn't loop around to my car every hour to refill my water bottle and get chews. I had to take my chews with me so it was also the first time I didn't stop my clock to eat them in my car. In short, it was the closest simulation to the actual race I've had and it was one of the best paces I've had. It also included 4 miles of gravel trails, which I find much harder to run on than pavement. I am so ready for this race I can hardly stand it!

Love, love, LOVE your bellhop costumes! :thumbsup2 How creative!

I'm still working out the details on my Maleficent garb.

Ok so just got some figures regarding the total climb (uphill and down together). Looks like the total is a positive 115 feet, with the steepest parts within the first 3.5 miles. The two steepest inclines are overpasses and look like they are actually On Osceola parkway by the turnaround at Animal Kingdom. You will hit a water stop at 2.5 miles right In between the two hilliest parts.

Also you are between it looks like 100 and 200 feet above sea level, so if your at higher elevation, you should be able to exert the same effort but go a little faster (or at least make it easier to run).

I mapped my run today on the USTAF site and found my run has a total climb of a positive 246 feet with some pretty big hills(although what goes up must come down!).

Figured I would post some elevation data for anyone interested!

Those overpasses on Osceola are not too bad, this course isn't too bad. I'm more worried about it being humid and hot, though we are finally out of the 90s everyday and in the low 70s at night, looking to trend into the 60s soon, hopefully. Also, hoping for no rain.

I also got my costume in, it's not runner friendly at all but it will just slow my pace to 9:30-10 min/mile. Just a few more adjustments to complete the costume and it will be sweet. It is a long costume, I am going to give it a practice run, but may secure the long fabric up a little. Anyways, 2 weeks from today, on our way to DHS for the race!

Thanks, You costumes sound fun, just don't expect us to carry your stuff for you! :rotfl:

LOVE the costume!! I thought about doing bellhops, but wasn't sure how. Are they moisture wick shirts? How did you attach everything?

Yes they are wicking shirts. I got them from Under Armour. The mens isn't quite the right color but oh well, it will be dark! I ironed on the HTH emblem and I found this great sticky ribbon in the glitter gold at A C Moore. I'm wanting to add some glow in the dark paint but DH says NO.

Love, love, LOVE your bellhop costumes! :thumbsup2 How creative!

Nice, can't wait to see everyone's running gear, be it comstumes or just gear I'll want to buy!:goodvibes

In running news-I just got my Zensah sleeves and wore them for the 1st time today during and after a 4mile run. My shins are still kinda hurting but my calves are feeling good and no knee pain today at all!

I am really excited and wanted to share what just picked up. I found a local lady that made me a Tutu. I decided to dress up like the Queen of hearts and here is what I have so far. I plan on adding a few things to the tutu still, and fix a shirt but I love what she was able to do.

Regarding garb, y'all may recall the Sparkle Light skirt I ordered from Sparkle Skirts fit weird. I ended up springing for the pricey Sparkle Tech with the built in shorts. It came in today. Serious love! I didn't even want to take it off. I almost want to order another one for the 5k but I'm going to refrain.
