Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Stay positive!

I think it's awesome the RD events are becoming so popular. You use to be able to register for the marathon day of. I love the growing passion for running.

Thanks, and I agree! I think these destination races, Disney and others, are inspirational to people. I am all for anything that gets people moving and challenging themselves.

There are plenty of races all over the country. Do I love forking over $288 for two races at Disney - not exactly, but I chose to do so because its always been a goal, and I'm finally ready to accomplish it. I don't expect discounts on anything else because my $288 pays for my races and all the logistics required . Plus lets face it, I'm paying extra for the "privilege" of running at Disney. I accept that. Can't wait for castle pics!

Im so glad that I registered for GSC the other day with my Disney Visa card!!! I wouldn't have been able to try and register until 5:00 today, and then it would have been too late. Im also very blessed that my DH supports both my running and my Disney obsessions! So excited!!!:yay:

Registered for Glass Slipper today! My first half marathon EVER! For the past few years I think about going. This year I decided it is ok to be a little bit selfish and make taking care of me a priority. All day at work, I listen to women who take care of everyone but themselves (job, kids, husband, house etc). I am no exception! I think this is an awesome opportunity for us women and I am looking forward to participating with everyone. My husband thinks I am totally nuts to fly to Disney to get up in the middle of the night to run my butt off. He will probably still be in bed sleeping after the races are over :lmao: I am looking forward to training, getting in better shape and having fun at the races with everyone!

Are there any photos of the medals, pins or t-shirts? The CM from runDisney advised me yesterday the GSC would be popular, as women like "all the bling." Maybe if the medals are nice, I can hang the photo in front of my treadmill :rotfl2:

Amen! We will all be crazy right along with you!

My DD15 and I are also signed up for GSC!! So glad someone started a special thread for this challenge for all of us who are out of our minds!!!

Lol I did that for The Expedition Everest race.
I hung a pic up on the wall, it got me through.
So far with training for this race I picture the old medals, running through the castle and heckling the imaginary hecklers because while I may be slow, I'm doing more than them. What ever gets you through it, right?!? Lol

So has anyone done the 2-3 races in one weekend thing before? How do you handle race days? Do you walk around the parks a little or stay in the hotel and rest?

Not sure if you have done a DL race but WOW, with the castle being so little. Dead stopped way before the castle. Took 4 minutes for me to get thru.

That's not necessarily always the case. I've run the Tinker Bell half twice and never had to slow down going through the castle. Maybe it depends on what corral you are in, though? I've started in both C and B.

I haven't done the 2 races back to back- but have run a lot of miles back to back training. I plan to do the 10 K and treat that Saturday like any other training run day that just happens to be the day before a race. I usually do 4 miles for an "average day run" so the extra couple I'm thinking won't be that bad. I will of course treat that Saturday like I would any other day before a half (especially at Disney) I'll do parks until late afternoon or just after dinner (slowly no rush here and there) eat dinner (probably pizza) and put my feet up for the night, after getting ready for the early morning by laying out all my stuff. Then try to sleep as early as possible.

This plan is of course subject to change as conditions dictate.

I was in D. Trust me, has everything to do with the corral you are in!

Holy Smokes! I can't believe how fast GSC sold out!!!!! I was in training for pretty much all of the day yesterday but I had my phone with me and was watching all the updates come across on twitter (I broke down and activated a twitter account to get updates from runD...it's a new low. ;)) and it was all I could do to contain my excitement! BF was in the seat next to me and couldn't believe it either...I'm not sure we learned much yesterday! :lmao: Oh well, I'm really excited for this race though! Ironically, it's really motivated me to get back to serious training, but there's just no way I can fit it in this week because of the training I've got going on at work...you know, they want us to train all day, but still do the job that normally takes up a whole day...this has turned into two stress-filled, no lunch, 11 hour work days in a row now, and we're not even half way through it! :scared: Oh well, there's always next week, right??? I did have fun reading all the pages and pages of DIS posts on the way home though! Hopefully today is better...I'm only scheduled for a half day session, which starts in 15 minutes, so I should probably try to get some work done :surfweb:

I am registered for the GSC too! I am so excited. Everyone on this board is so helpful and encouraging. :)

I am over 40 and Just started running in October but have tried to do all the right training and take it slow. Not trying to win first place, just want to finish. Have done a 5k, 8k and just did my first 10K last week with a time of 1:03.

I am also registered for the DDD in Disneyland and have been following the Jeff Galloway training. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for posting so many helpful tips and suggestions and being so supportive. I can't wait to share this experience with so many other Disney fans!

Jumping in. Signed up last week with DVC pre-registration. I haven't done Princess or Tink (and probably never will do Tink) so I'm excited to do this one.

I have done the Goofy Challenge which is another animal but I won't do parks on the day before the long race.

For this one, I won't do any parks on the 10k day but would go into the parks after the half.

1:03 is a killer 10k time! Kudos!

Yes. We have a Tour de Pain series in my town I run every year and I've completed 2 Goofy Challenges. I'm also going to be running the Marine Corps 1/2 the morning of the TOT 10-miler. It's all about recovery. Be sure to stay hydrated. I use Endurox as my recovery drink, compression sleeves, and wrap my knees/ankles with the wine cooler sleeves (if needed). Biofreeze is also my friend. For Goofy, I walk around after the 1/2 on Saturday. I like to keep my legs loose. Nothing crazy but a few hours on my legs feel good. By 5pm, I'm eating dinner and am off my legs for the rest of the day.

Completely agree! I was chatting with someone that said they never had a line for pics. Turns out he runs a 3 1/2 mile marathon. I was in the second corral and the pic lines were already getting lengthy.

No kidding! I expected it based on the response to DDD but then started to have my doubts b/c it was a female-centered race.

Welcome! Don't be shy. Looking forward to hearing about DDD. I'm going to do absolutely everything I can to get in DDD 2014.

I have none under my belt. But I turn 40 in November and this was on my bucket list.

I've lost my mind :rolleyes1 :scared: I know I'll be 41 in February, I can do it! We also registered for the Royal 5K :worship:

You will be FINE! :thumbsup2 I ran my first 5K at age 49 and my first half at 50 - next year I am running my first full at age 52 - go get 'em ladies! :cool1:

I think it's wonderful that there are so many new faces signed up for these races! I was new here for the PHM 2013. The DIS is a great place to be!
