Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Happy Birthday!!!
I'm a late in life runner too.
My kids all run so I kind of picked up the sport because I was at the field and XC courses anyway.

Although I've always kind of envied runners, that's how I got into it too - turns out my daughter is quite good at cross crountry and track but she has no interest in these super long distances :rotfl:

99%! And the half and 10K are now showing at 50% full.

This is so darned exciting! I was expecting the GSC to sell out swiftly, but I'm floored that the PHM is already half full! I'm sure that it's because of the interest in the GSC, of course, and I expect that the rate will slow way down once that sells out, but still, yowza!

Boyohboy, do I ever hope that one reason for the half filling up so quickly is because they really did lower the number of slots for next year. I don't want to have to shuffle through the Castle again!

My DS wants to do a marathon but he's not old enough for Disney yet, it think its 18.

What does your DD do for track? DS16 does the 1600 and the 3200.

DS12 does XC and track, not sure what he will pick for distance in track.
DS11 does XC and hurdles
DD7 does XC and pole vault

Happy Birthday and do not worry about getting into this "late in life"! I started as a walker for couple of years after I turned 45. Then when I turned 50, I took a leap of faith in myself and tried run/walk. Walking was fun, but I developed a love affair with running! My DH says it was my empty nest reaction :rotfl2:

Anyway, I did the 20th Mickey as my first full in Jan at 52, will do my 2nd marathon here in Columbus in Oct, the Wine and Dine in Nov and I am doing the GSC! I'm having too much fun to waste time thinking about my age! :yay:

Thanks! and wow, those are quite some acheivements you have under your belt already! :worship:

Not sure if you have done a DL race but WOW, with the castle being so little. Dead stopped way before the castle. Took 4 minutes for me to get thru.

DD14 does XC and 800,1500 100m relay for track
DS12 does XC and same as yours, not sure what he will pick up for track, probably mid distance. Elementary school sports have been an issue this year with Ontario teachers not coaching due to some contract negotiations.

Yikes, seriously?! I'm hoping to do Tink someday; nice to know that there will be a good walk break at the castle!

Omg I'm so excited!! I just looked at the kids school calendar for next year and they are off that week!! Woohoo!!
Now to rework the cost and get cheer squad tickets

That stinks that the teachers aren't coaching.
Ours are all volunteers.

On Active.com it now says sold out, even though RD says 99%!!!
THAT WAS SO FAST OMG

Does this burn anybody else up? :furious:

I went on the Moms Panel & saw this answer for myself. These discounts are a big appeal for the weekend for me. I've voiced my dissatisfaction to rD which will probably be met w/ a canned response. Since this info only came out today, for those of us who registered early & are on a tight budget, it feels like a 'GOTCHA!.

I will fire off an email aswell!! This does feel like a gotcha!! You raise prices and offer no discount on park tickets. That is unbelievable!!!

Sorry no way I will catch up on all the posts today but I hope everyone who wanted to get in did.

Kim

I think it is way too early to become alarmed by room rates and/or ticket pricing. Disney hasn't even released pricing for next year. I also don't think discounts for runners should be an expectation. I've been attending the Disney Marathon weekend since 2004 and things have really changed. I never had to worry about booking a room early, making dining reservations 180 days out, or even remembering to login at noon to register. However, I think this is fantastic! To me this indicates the running community has grown and there are healthier, happier people in my community. If it takes a runDisney event to get people moving.... woohoo!

For a little perspective, my husband attends a computer conference at BC/YC every year that pumps hundreds of thousands of dollars into the resort. Attendants/participants receive a $5 off after 4pm Epcot ticket.

This exactly what I am afraid of. I can handle a week off of all exercise, two will be tough. But I'm afraid the doctor just gave me the standard obvious answer and in the end it might not be the best course of action. If pain (which I now have) isn't gone by end of the weekend I'm going to ask for a pt referral or a sports med doc, changing PCPs where I live is tough, there's a shortage. Thanks for the reply.

Stay positive!

I think it's awesome the RD events are becoming so popular. You use to be able to register for the marathon day of. I love the growing passion for running.

Well I have agree to disagree as my hubby has attended 1 of Disney Leader institute and even he was given admission after 4pm during conference days with his package. 270 is nothing to sneeze at this is an expensive event and to have to pay full price for park admission is unreasonable.

I agree about healthy lifestyles and it was fun to race to sign up but I do hope they offer discount tickets.
