Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Yes. We have a Tour de Pain series in my town I run every year and I've completed 2 Goofy Challenges. I'm also going to be running the Marine Corps 1/2 the morning of the TOT 10-miler. It's all about recovery. Be sure to stay hydrated. I use Endurox as my recovery drink, compression sleeves, and wrap my knees/ankles with the wine cooler sleeves (if needed). Biofreeze is also my friend. For Goofy, I walk around after the 1/2 on Saturday. I like to keep my legs loose. Nothing crazy but a few hours on my legs feel good. By 5pm, I'm eating dinner and am off my legs for the rest of the day.

First off.....WOW! are your really doing a 1/2 then flying to WDW and doing the ToT? If so, you are one tough cookie.

As for multi day race plans. I did Goofy this year and just did the usual--light park touring on Fri, light park touring after the 1/2--important for getting the lactic acid out of the legs (and for securing the traditional "post-race photo with the character at the park/costume of my choice"). Sunday I went to DDD after the race to get my chocolate shake at Ghiradellis and stretch things out.

After each race, back at the room, I do a little light stretching, icing of whatever needs it, eat and a short rest (and a beer--I earned it!)

You will be FINE! :thumbsup2 I ran my first 5K at age 49 and my first half at 50 - next year I am running my first full at age 52 - go get 'em ladies! :cool1:

So awesome! I said that I would NEVER do a full, but.....I am now toying with the idea. Of course it would have to be a Disney race as my first one. I have quite a few 1/2's under my belt now. Can you lend any suggestions to going from 1/2 to full?
Keep up the great work, you inspire me!:thumbsup2

By flying do you mean DH driving 90 along I-95 and 4? Just teasing. The Marine Corps 1/2 is in Jacksonville, FL. I'll run it in the morning while our DD is at swim lessons and then DH and I will head to TOT together. The longest same day race I've ever done was a 1/2 in the morning and a 5k at night. We'll see how this goes. Grandma and grandpa will be watching our DD.

So, not all runners get to go in the castle?

The course for everyone goes through the castle. I believe they were talking about whether or not you could run or if you were forced to walk through, due to crowding. There's ALOT of Princesses to squeeze through that narrow walkway :) Typically, the further back you are in the corral line-up, the more crowding you'll experience, especially in those bottle-neck prone areas.

Did my first official training run today.

4.08 miles in 61 minutes. Doing 1/1 intervals 5.3 mph/3 mph, this put my pace at a 14:41 m/m. I actually felt really good and could have gone to at least 10K but I had to get the kids. hopefully I can get a little faster, I'd like to be around a solid 14m/m. But I have time to work on that.

Now to figure out how to pace myself outside. I tend to run and walk a lot faster outside, which is good in some ways but I seem to lose steam faster too.

I have a video of us running through the castle. You can see we "ran" most if the way but were deadlocked as we exited. I will try and post it when I upload it

Oh I see :rolleyes1 lol I'm a newbie sorry.

Thank you.

I'm currently training for the biggest 10K in Atlanta on the 4TH of July, The AJC Peachtree Road Race :crazy2: yeah in Hotlanta with Jeff Galloway training group, his walk/run/walk has helped me a lot with my pace and also my breathing. I might take his half of marathon training later in the fall. :scratchin

I haven't been on here in a while, but just wanted to say that I'm in for the GSC and super excited about it ! Looking for as much info as I can get to fill in the wait time. I am running it by myself but DH is coming down to cheer me on. I am fairly new to running and have only done a few "Official" 5k's but run a lot farther on my own. This will most definitely be a CHALLENGE for me but I KNOW I can do this !!!

We are going down for MNSSHP in October and I am doing the Happy Haunted 5k then and the kids are doing the kids races :)

Foe those of you that have done the Princess before, how far out should I book a room, get flights and such ?

Do you like the training group? We have one in Hartford that just started, but I missed registration. I'm hoping they open one in the late summer or fall. But I'm not sure if I would feel stupid being out there because I have no idea what I'm doing. DS is helping me as best as he can but he also runs a 4:55 mile, so he has not been where I am coming from. He thinks I can run a local race in August, 11.6 miles. I tol him he was crazy!

Oh I love it. The coaches are so nice and the other runners too, I felt the same way but everybody is so nice and positive, I love it. Do the run/walk/run, you'll love it.

Jeff Galloway has training apps as well.

Is there a run Disney anonymous? I think I'm addicted!

If so, I'm joining! I've run in every runDisney race weekend at WDW since Princess 2011 and I'm signed up for every one through Princess 2014. I also signed up for Dumbo!!

Thanks, I'll have to see if they have another one starting soon.
We have a local running club but they are all elite runners, way out of my league.

I have the apps, I was using the 5K one but I've bumped up to the 1/2. Love this one because I can actually adjust the volume of the music so I can hear Jeff talk. For some reason that part of the 5K app doesn't work even though I've uninstalled and reinstalled it.

Boy do I agree!! I was staying with the west coast races until 2012 when I earned my first C2C medal. I figured I would stay with the DL races after that. Then.......GSC and a pink C2C and I couldn't pass it up. Since I plan to do the 2014 DL 1/2 marathon now I'm thinking, what about doing the Wine & Dine again in 2014 and getting the blue C2C? I need help!!!

Hi, my name is BlazerFan and I'm a runDisney-holic :-)
