Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

Is anyone else having trouble finding available rooms at WDW during the Princess Weekend?

You have to call. Or at least that is what the guy told me today. He said in 3 or so weeks all the 2014 stuff would be available online. He also said runDisney would have a better rate, but I didn't try.

No discounts right now, not even the AAA yet. so I booked POP as for one person POFQ is just too much. Hoping for some discount.

I'm in. It will be my first 1/2 marathon (and if it was right now, it would actually be my first race ever but I will do a few this summer to change that)

Happy Birthday!!!
I'm a late in life runner too.
My kids all run so I kind of picked up the sport because I was at the field and XC courses anyway.

Yay! Glad you're in! We can do this! I'm registered for the "Triple Crown!"

I'm registering for the 5k on payday!
Triple crown, here we come!!

Happy Birthday and do not worry about getting into this "late in life"! I started as a walker for couple of years after I turned 45. Then when I turned 50, I took a leap of faith in myself and tried run/walk. Walking was fun, but I developed a love affair with running! My DH says it was my empty nest reaction :rotfl2:

Anyway, I did the 20th Mickey as my first full in Jan at 52, will do my 2nd marathon here in Columbus in Oct, the Wine and Dine in Nov and I am doing the GSC! I'm having too much fun to waste time thinking about my age! :yay:

Count me in.popcorn::
Registered for GSC today, am going to throw in the 5K tomorrow and now am eying Tink..Is there a run Disney anonymous? I think I'm addicted!

So we have similar age running stories. I started running in 2008 and did the 15k Minnie marathon and then at 50 did the 19th WDW marathon and yeah I did it again this year, the medal was just too cool.

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread, but

HOW COULD THE GSC BE 88% ALREADY???

Were some people allowed to register early?

You have to call. Or at least that is what the guy told me today. He said in 3 or so weeks all the 2014 stuff would be available online. He also said runDisney would have a better rate, but I didn't try.

I called the runDisney line this afternoon to book room-only (RGR at POR), and to my surprise they were able to offer me a package already! She priced out my room plus 7 day park hoppers, and gave me a total (it was about $600 more than I was hoping for) so I asked if I'd be able to add a discount later on when discounts are released... she said to do that, I'd have to cancel my existing reso - ie give up my room - then rebook with a discount and *hope* the room I want is still available. :worried: I said no thank you.
So THEN I called the non-runDisney line and they could only do room-only, as I expected...but for POR for my dates all they had available was just garden view?! :confused3 How is that even possible?!
Questions:
1) Does anyone have experience with booking a package through runDisney early and then cancelling it/rebooking later on when a discount comes out? Were you able to keep your room choice??
2) Should I have just booked a package through runDisney now and hoped for the best down the road??
3) Is the cancel/rebook policy the same if I just book room-only through runDisney and want to add a discount later on?

Sorry if this sounds confusing. Any help is super appreciated!! I really have my princess heart set on a Royal Guest Room! princess:

Yes, the AP and Disney Visa holders were allowed to register for the past week. However, only a certain (unknown) number of slots in the GSC were available, and they sold out for early registration pretty quickly.

For W&D last year I originally booked a runDisney package and then cancelled it to rebook with Disney directly. The runDisney rate was very slightly less than rack rate. Actually, I think the hotel room was rack rate and the DDP was rack rate, and then there was a discount on the room tickets. When FD became available, I switched and saved over $1200 at AKL.

This year I booked RO direct from Disney right away. I am confident a rate will be available later this year that will definitely be cheaper than runDisney.

And if there are no standard rooms at POR, it could be your dates. The week before is President's Day. Try either adding a day ahead or coming a day later and see if that helps.

Another "older lady" runner here, I started in 2005 with Marathon Weekend as my first race, did my only full a couple years later to get my Mickey Medal. GSC will be my 4th Princess weekend, and my 20th half, I'll be 58.

It's nice to see the more mature runners so well represented

Yes. A limited number of spots were opened for DVC, AP, and Disney Visa member early registration on Thursday.

This morning it was showing SOLD OUT for DVC and visa holders, but you never know.

Use code 4266 to save $15.00 I saw it on facebook and it worked.
