Official "Friends of the Fort" Weight Loss Group!

Your insurance paid? Wow, that was one of my excuses for not doing it, I didn't want to pay! I have all kinds of medical reasons to get it, arthritis, chronic pain, need knees replaced, ankle fused, borderline high blood pressure and herniated discs in back. I wonder if they will pay for me?

Now if I could just get past the fear, and I still worry that I will "miss" eating.
Check with the insurance company. I paid the co-pay for all the testing before hand ($25 for each specialist) and then my $500 co-pay for the hospital. Otherwise my insurance covered everything. I think the surgery was billed at $22,000 and then the 2 days in ICU that my surgeon insists on.

I thought I would miss eating as well. In fact I had surgery the week after Thanksgiving. You would have thought that I was having my throat cut the way I was eating. I swear I gained 5 pounds right before surgery. :sad2: It was hard in the beginning get used to the new changes in dietary restrictions but it is definitely worth it. I spend alot more time awake with my DD. I used to nap every day when I got home from work. Now I'm up until 11 p.m. and up again at 5:30 raring to go.

And believe it or not, there is a book titled "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". Its actually very good and answers alot of questions. Good luck with your decision. Its a tough one to make.

Thanks, I will check it out, you mentioned you post your stats on another board, I don't want to see them LOL, but are there any good boards to check out?

Hi All! Congrats to all that lost a few pounds! I actually lost 2, but I'm with Rog, they may show back up tomorrow, then be gone the next day....so does that mean I lost 4???? I wish!!!!

As for the weekend, I didn't quite fall off the wagon. I held on for dear life while it dragged me behind! What I ate wasn't so healthy, but because it was Prom day at the salon, it was all I ate! As a mother of boys, I don't know how you all survive your girls....I don't know who is worse on Prom day, the teenage girl or her helicopter mother! Anyway, being busy kept me from stuffing my face out of frustration!

Hey Poly, am I correct in understanding you camped in Williamsburg? I've been thinking of doing that this summer. Where did you stay? Got any tips?

I did camp in Williamsburg last weekend and stayed at the Newport News Campground. I was very pleased with it! I posted a few pics yesterday on the chit chat thread. Let me know if you want any info and I'd be glad to give it to you!

I've had a good couple of days. My weight watchers points dropped, so I have to eat even less now......:sad2:

I am sneaking in exercise....like today, I went to the doc and instead of driving to the store afterwards, I walked there and back. I managed to get in 30 minutes of brisk walking that way!:woohoo:

Ami, if you want to walk Thur. morning let me know i'll be in town.

OT but, i love the williamsburg area. Fun and educational if you have a chance to visit.

Looks like Thurs is good for me! Let me know what time you'll be around!

The gastric sleeve looks similar to the duodenol switch. Do you know what the difference is?
Wow...not many people have heard of the duodenal....yes its actually the FIRST Operation of the DS...they do the sleeve. and allow the patient to loose a massive amount of weight so that they will be at a lower risk when they go in to finalize the duodenal(hence the "duo" part...2 part procedure). My surgeon explained to me that so many patients who were scheduled for the duodenal had done so well without part2...that it became its own procedure.

John, most insurances will try to get out of paying for the GBypass, but will cave after your surgeons "handle them" with threats of not looking out for your future health and preventing you from an available livelihood. The GSleeve is a bit of a different story....its fairly new so most ins companys can use the term "experimental procedure" to get out of paying for it...although 7 years of successful stories hardly seems experimental any more!!!

You probably WILL miss eating....but what you may never be able to admit to yourself is that overeating is a HABIT that we've spent years on perfecting....once the habit is broken, it SOO MUCH EASIER....I admit, the pain of accidentally overeating helped break the habit pretty quickly!!! Not to mention....well, Ive told ya'll this before....ya eat too much....ya cant help throwing some of it up. That gets old too, after a while...ya just learn that the puking and pain is better avoided, and everything just falls into place. I understand your fear, John.....I REALLY do...........but think of the first time you went on space mountain, and remember how happy you were that you made yourself go on it!!!! :thumbsup2

laughing...I first went on SM when I was all of 135....haven't tried it since I got bigger...never liked it...I'm like people are about bikes...I just don't understand!!!Now that I'm a big girl....not going there again...just think it could be a risk I'm not will to try! I think I'd heve til I was 135 again lolol

Thanks for the explanation! :thumbsup2 And you're right about the insurance companies and "experimental" WLS, not even a blip on my company's radar. It was band, RNY or nothing!

Hi everyone! New to this section of DIS and Rhonda graciously pointed me to you.

My name is Liz and am 43 yrs young. Have wonderful DH and 19yo DS who will be starting university in Manchester, England in Sept. Couple years ago I lost about 20 lbs but a series of family emergencies brought it all to a halt and gained back 15 of those.

I started walking seriously after doing the WDW 5K in Jan. I've had arthrits since I was 11 so running is out however loving the distance walking!

Looking to lose 20-25lbs and can always use more support/ideas! With the walking I've lost about 5 lbs in a month but since I've been training for longer distances the scale doesn't move as much. However my clothes are all fitting differently so something is going right. Just have to stick with it, right?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting thru our set backs (or at least the ones I know I'll have) as well as celebrating our accomplishments!

Ok, I haven't done well at all this week and I know that so I haven't even thought about getting up on the scales. Next week I will jump back on the bandwagon...not this week though.

As some of you already know my dd had a miscarriage this week, she was 4 months along...I eat whenever I'm stressed so you can imagine what I've shoved in my mouth. As for my dd she's fine now, she told me in the hospital that she would rather have a miscarriage than to give birth to a baby that might would suffer in anyway, to see a child suffer is the worse possible feeling in the world, so our family agrees that God must have had a hand in it, God never makes mistakes. She's young and has a whole life ahead of her, she said she is still going to try during the fall again ( TMI )hehe.

This whole week whenever I looked at something bad to eat , my inter skinny self screamed not to do it but I was quickly able to shut it up with a cookie ! :lmao:

Terri - I'm sorry to hear what happened. I'll keep your DD in my thoughts and prayers.
Its wonderful to hear your DD's positive attitude.

TwoWDWfools, welcome! Glad to have you aboard. I hope you enjoy this thread as much as i have. It seems to make me more accountable. Alot of us have made our weigh in day on Fridays. Then we posts our gains and losses.(no need to post your weight) Some go by how they feel in their clothes. Most of all we're here for support.

Terri, so sorry to hear about your daughter. Your exactly right, God does not make mistakes. Praying for healing for your family.

My neighbor just told me she has lost 12 pound in the last two weeks by exercising on her Wii, I guess that bowling and golf is the way to go heehee.

Oh Terri! Gosh I am so so sorry! Prayers and :grouphug: for you and your family!!!!! There is a reason for everything! Sometimes it's difficult to understand God's bigger picture....we just have to trust. One day you will have the grandchild that was meant to grow up with you as a grandma!

Terri,
So sorry about your daughter. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Eeyore,
Thank you for the PM. I don't have enough posts yet to PM you back! I'm doing Medifast. So far so good. I weigh tomorrow so I'll let you all know how week 5 went.... I'm really glad that your surgery was complication-free! That's fantastic. I think that's what scares me most. Not the surgery itself, but the possible complications. I'm a huge chicken! Almost forgot - northern Ocean County :)

TwoWDWFools,
Welcome! Good luck!

~Kelly

Welcome to our lovely group! Great to have you aboard! Terri, I am so sorry to hear about your DD. My thoughts are with you guys. I am a firm believer that things happen for reasons we don't know yet. I am sure there is joy around the corner for your DD. She seems to have a great outlook, and good luck to her with trying again.
