Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

Has anyone here walked directly to the corrals from one of the Katella hotels? I'm wondering if you can walk down non-race side of Disneyland Drive, past the start line and enter the corrals there, rather than having to around through the stage area?

I've never walked from another hotel other than the DLRs but if I remember correctly last year the side section next to the start is open and you maybe able to come in that way. But I'm not 100 percent sure.

Can't believe that I'll be in CA in a week from now!

Taper question: I just got back from an Alaskan cruise last week. (It was WONDERful.:)

I was able to do a 12 mi run right before we left (almost 2 weeks ago now) and was able to do a few 5Ks on the ship. I was thinking to do another long run when we got back, but jet lag and the weather hasn't cooperated. I did get in a 6 mi run tonight.

Do you think it is worth doing a 10+ mi run this weekend (1 week before the race), or should I just taper at this point? Usually I would do my longest run about 2 weeks before the race.

Everybody is different, but if you did 12 mi about 2 weeks ago, I really wouldn't do 10 miles the week before the race. I would do about 6-7 miles and really just taper.

Yay you got picked! Let us know what surprises they do. I got to do the Tink one and we got to tour the Dream Suite!

Cant believe I will be there in one week!

I was a late addition to the Galloway meet up. :cool1: I got an email the other day saying someone could not make it and I was the next on the list. Couldnt believe it. Not sure what they will do for us. I will be DCA based, so I am hoping a ride on Radiator Spring Racers is in the cards. But actually dont care. Just honored to have a chance to hear from Jeff and meet him.

Travel Safe everyone!

First You Run...
Then You Walk..
Do The Galloway!

I only post here sporadically, can I still attend the meet ups? Or is WISH something you have to join and be a member of first? Thanks!

Everyone is welcome! Please show up! I am doing this one solo and only be the second time I have gone to a meet in the last 7 Disney races. No special membership card needed. :rotfl2:

To taper or not to taper?

Ran 12 miles last weekend. Ran 10 miles the weekend before. This week for the mid-week runs, it's been crazy busy and I have been only able to get in a quick 4 mile run tonight. Ran at a faster pace than normal for me and I felt great.

What would you do for the weekend running this weekend? Another long run to further prepare? Cut it short to 8 maybe? Another 10? I don't want to risk injury but I also don't want to undershoot this event. I want to be able to finish well/strong and not stuggle to the finish.

Advice anyone?

I wanted to get 10 miles in this week but caught a nasty case of bronchitis.. Feel its better to get 100% better than run and get worse at this point.. I'm almost drug-less at this point so hopefully will be healed in time to run well..

Now the bigger issue is making sure the Tropical Storm doesn't interfer with travel plans next Friday- Not so worried they'll be directly impacted (unless it keeps shifting and hits texas where our layover is) but if flights get delays Wed/Thur it may hurt us early early friday...

Didn't even think about this as this may impact us as well, depending on the projected path. Nuts.

Hey everyone! I'm more a reader than a poster but I couldn't help myself. I am coming from Orlando so I am a bit nervous about the storm, but I think it should be gone by the time I leave for the race. Gulf Coast runners though, keep an eye out. Should be interesting.

Safe travels everyone

Tapering questions: I would just do your normal taper at this point. Extra mileage will probably harm more then help now. A lot depends on your body. I did 15 last weekend and am doing 9 tomorrow, with a bit of fast stuff mixed in the second half, but nothing too straining. 7-10 is probably good for most people for a half. 8-12 for a marathon.

FWIW, my marathon PR came after I got a bad flu bug during taper, had to delay my race a week (different race), and ended up with a four week taper with no running from 12-7 days before the race. Race morning I felt invincible--and I was. You just never know.

Thanks for the tip on the starting line. My impression is that spectators can use the DL hotel side of the street to move around so I should be able to get in. I'm just not sure if they have some security person at the start area keeping the mortals separate from the elites. I don't want to get there and be told I have to run all the way back around through the staging area.

Almost to the Sunday Forecast!

10-day forecast shows 63 overnight with 80 for the high. Barring some weird weather phenomenon, that is about as good as it gets for the DL half.

I hope it doesn't move up. A few years ago we had the same forecast at this point and by race morning it was 68 at the start.

I would taper. Personal experience speaking here but if tapering is done right you can feel absolutely fantastic during the race. I know, I've had this happen to me twice. Some of my best tapers have been coming in on forced time off from running (weather and sinus infection respectively). So I'm hoping that's the case since I haven't had a run for almost four weeks because of my stupid foot (I'm doing a short one tomorrow). So I say taper, you'll probably feel better in the long run (literally).

Quick question on the Disneyland Resort Express... it takes you from LAX to DLH and then you have to transfer to another shuttle if you're staying at a Good Neighbor Hotel?

My recollection is that it stops off at several hotels around the park. But, I've been local for the last 11 years so I'm not sure if it is still that way.

Sending pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: everyones way this last week before the race.

May everyone stay injury free both this final week and the day of the race. And for those of your forced into rest because of lingering injury may you quickly heal this week.

I am slightly envious of you but know that my turn will come in Jan at the Tinkerbell.

A week from now I'll be in California and I couldn't be more excited. This is my first big race (all the others have been 1-2,000 runners/walkers) and my first ever Disney race! Any tips for the morning? What time to leave? Where to get something good for breakfast? A good route to get to the start? What's after the finish line? I'm coming from the Sheraton Park, hopefully alert, on time, and ready to run.

I'm so excited!!!

Any suggestions on the best way back to LAX from DLR on Monday for a ~ 2:30PM flight (for 2 people)?

Morning: I bring my own food (bagels, banana), but a couple places are open early if you feel adventurous. I wake at 3:00 to get my body awake and eat my breakfast so I can take my bio break before the race starts (I don't like potty stops on the course). I would head out to the staging area at about 4:30 so you have time to drop your bag and hang out before going to the corrals. You want to have your bag dropped and head to the corrals by 5:00. Make one last potty stop and hit the corrals by 5:15. Then hang out and chat until race start. I don't know where you are staying to give you directions, but usually follow the other 14,000 people up at 4:30.

After the finish, I walk along the finish route and cheer others on. Then I head back, take a shower and head to the park to eat all the bad food I have been avoiding for the last few weeks.

I have no answers to your questions, since this is our first run at Disneyland, but we are also staying at Sheraton Park, so maybe we'll see you on the way over!
I noticed that it's on the list of hotels that get the weekend bus service for the half, so that's good!
