Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

DP and I had a discussion about this on the way to work this morning. We came to agree that the best way to bolster the number of entries in the Mickey Marathon would be to improve the course--namely shorten the out & back's. By releasing it this early, they are teasing it and shamelessly self promoting themselves. Let us not forget, runDisney is part of Disney and they always have their bottom line in mind.

I agree 110%! Races are just another way for Disney to make money during "slow" periods of the year!

I'm kinda annoyed, too. BUT.....seems to me, it means that it will be the same as last year with minor differences in the parks. They just seem to not have the room/flexibility in Anaheim as Orlando....understandably.

IF it is the same as last year...all good by me! Who knows how many overpasses there are in the course? Never considered it, but i hear it's a player.

There is the 1 overpass that Vicki mentioned over the 5 as well as 2 underpasses and a chance for a 3rd overpass. We start at the top of the underpass right off the bat and there is another underpass around Mile 6 1/2 in Anaheim. The chance for the 2nd overpass depends on how they have us leaving the resort to go out to Ball. There was 1 year where we came out in the middle of the overpass at the parking structure. The past couple of years wev're come out at the bottom of the overpass, but depending on how the whole course lines up through DCA and the addition of carsland, we could have another.

Pretty sure the only part of the course that will be the same is the course in Anaheim. The whole DCA part will change depending on how they route us through Cars and which way they take us. The first couple of years we even ran to the finish coming out of DCA and down DTD to the finish and not around DCA. They changed that b/c of the construction so they could even change that. They're also probably waiting on the DCA part to see how crazy it is after the initial month of it being open so it's not insane and safe for both the runners and guests.

Hi all,

Just checking in to let everyone know that DL ticket prices increase tomorrow. I wasn't planning on buying our park tickets just yet, but ended up getting them this afternoon to avoid the increase.

Hope this helps someone! :)

Ugh, thanks. So wish I could but haven't even bought airfare yet because my job hasn't decided when a mandatory meeting that month will be scheduled yet. This really sucks because I have no idea how long I can visit or if it'll be a quick weekend in (from MI) & out. :( :badpc:

What is the minimum you think you might buy? The 3 day hopper will cost you $250 tomorrow but you can buy a 6 day today for $251. I think I would just buy the 6 day today to be "safe".

Remember to check the prices at http://www.gettravel.com . They are the official ticket agent from the race. Last year, their ticket prices didn't go up when DL increased their prices. A 6 day hopper from them is $220.

Holy cow that's a big jump :faint:
We don't go out to Cali hardly ever so a 6 day would kind of be a waste when we might only be in the parks 1-2 days at worst. Sorry to vent but I'm just frustrated because I'd really like to buy airfare and I have no idea what day in ALL of August this meeting might be:(

I did the same thing last year. I heard prices were going up and jumped in before they did. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

Kim---I'm so impressed that you remember all the details. :worship: I completely forgot the underpass at the start. I guess in the excitement of the start of the race I just forget it each year. The worst part for me is that dusty, dirty trail before the stadium. I would gladly take more miles through the area of the marble and kitchen top counter businesses. But the stadium more than makes up for it.

It's my special talent! :rotfl2: That and being able to quote movie lines and songs that were in movies. I totally agree w/ you on the river part. But when I was down there last month, we went by the river when I was going to the airport and they were doing something to the base of the river. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Sept. And the stadium!! I love that part ~ when you come out at the right field pole and everyone is there cheering... it's almost better than the finish line.

Oh! Was able to order the D & B bags this morning. Placed an order for the wristlet and the small barrel bag to decide which one would fit me better in the parks. The lady said she can't completely confirm the order, b/c the quanities are low so fingers are still crossed. The delivery fee was horrible though! $40  But if it means that I can get the bag, then it's worth it. I'm curious to see if there are any left when I go in a few weeks.

Too funny !! I agree with you--love the Boy & Girl Scouts & 4Her's cheering you on. They really give it their all !! But I'm always happy to see the finish line.

Glad you were able to order the purses. Hope the placement is just perfect for you. On a "darker" note ---did you see the $ increase of the Premium AP. :( I guess my D & B collection is just going to be "one". We will still keep and renew our premium passes but I was really surprised to see such a increase.

Yep, $150 more is a lot! But I'll be renewing mine, just means I'll spend less on pins or sit-down meals.

I did see the increase in tix prices. :sad1: No AP next year for me, so I'll just soak it up this year and resort back to race tix for the races. I am glad that I upgraded mine to the Premier b/c those went up too. At that point it was straight across the board ~ the price of the 5 day pass for WDW and the upgrade so it would be beneficial once you add in the discounts, but now it wouldn't be. But I still have a lot of trips this year planned so I can get it all in.

Got a race email today, not much info ~ talked about Pasta in the Park and discounted hotels and park tix. If anyone wants the email and didn't get 1, PM me and I can email it to you. They also had a pic of the pin for the race this year. Really like it, glad I ordered it.

I know we feel the same way. We might become the APer's that the parks dislike......not spending as much $$$ as before. What does bother me is our 5 yr old AP cost the same as ours.

Yay!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

Wish there was more in DCA, but that's alright. It looks like we go through the castle backwards from the hub too.

Yay!!!:cheer2: I just registered for the DL 1/2!! I didn't think I would going to be able to swing the cost but a generous family member stepped in and paid for it for an early birthday present (my birthday is the beginning of October). I'm so happy that I'm going to be able to run this...Tink was my first 1/2 marathon and now I've caught the bug, having run 3 1/2 marathons. DL will be my 5th one this year. Hoping I can manage to bring the family down with me as hubby is always a huge support for me! Looking forward to running through the stadium as well (since Tink course didn't).:banana::banana:

I need some advice on touring the parks. The family ds11, ds15, hubby, & I will be visiting. Both hubby & I will be doing the half. We will arrive on 8/30 due to work constraints & leaving Labor day. Coming from the Midwest, going to Land is difficult & costly so te chances of us coming back to CA in the next 5 years are slim.

I'd love to tour the parks & see the new Cars Land & DCA. Plus have the kids experience Land as we visit WDW frequently. What would be the best approach? It appeas we will have a half day on arrival day, Friday, Saturday, & the rest of he day after the half.

I would like recommendations from anyone who uses the half event as a vacation as well. This will also help in determining on what park tickets to buy.

Thanks!
