So, my gf and I took our little annual birthday getaway and I ordered two cakes for us while we were there. We ordered a zebra cake from AKL and I ordered a surprise Rapunzel themed mini cake for our BOG dinner. Sorry if the pictures are somewhat big!

Zebra cake from AKL for $45 - bonus vanilla podium cake was free along with the little zebra cakes.

This one was a bit of an ordeal lol. It was delivered on our arrival night at AKL so we could pick at it for breakfast over the course of a few days. I had it for an 8:30pm room delivery, but we were later than we had anticipated at our ADR and when we got back at a quarter after 9 the cake wasn't there so I called private dining to make sure it was coming, since one girl I had spoken to on the phone when I needed to move it from Boma to the room had the date wrong. They said had called the room but no one answered and they didn't want to deliver it to an empty room. We got the cake, one of the managers personally helped deliver it to the room, and apologized over and over that it had been taken out too late to thaw out and was still kind of frozen, so they gave us a free vanilla podium cake decorated with a bunch of cute little white chocolate animals and a bunch of little zebra cakes and all three desserts were absolutely free of charge, even though I tried to tell them I was more than willing to pay for my cake! The vanilla cake and zebra cakes were delicious! However due to a very long story of a mishap, the zebra cake spoiled before we ever got to eat it :( but I'm sure it was delicious.

Custom mini cake with buttercream icing, vanilla cake, white chocolate filling at BOG was $50.

This is a custom cake I had my girlfriend design like 6 months ago and ordered for a surprise for our BOG dinner (she thought she was designing it back then for something else that 'fell through'). I had to go to 3 different bakeries to get this made the way I wanted it. I got it from CR exactly the way I wanted it (down to the little lanterns on the sides on the sketch). It was absolutely delicious and beautiful, and my gf loved the cake and surprise. BOG did it wonderfully, our server didn't miss a beat with the surprise and brought it out in the dessert case like she was about to show us their regular desserts. It was wonderful.

If anyone wants to know the other bakeries I tried for this buttercream mini cake, this is how that went: Epcot told me they had to use fondant as nothing else would work and quoted me $65, the birthday girl hates fondant and I did not want to drop an extra $15 for the fondant, so I said no thank you. I tried for GF room delivery and they told me the only way they could do it would be a full size two tier cake cake that would at the very minimum start at $100. I'm going to assume that's a VERY low figure.

The rapunzel mini cake is adorable! This is making me super excited to work with them for 2 cakes in January

I just returned from our vow renewal trip. I had ordered a special cake to be delivered to the Garden View Tea Room during our tea. I called Pat directly to order the cake and she was great to work with. I hit a small bump with legal and copyright issues (I originally wanted a Potato Head cake) so I switched themes to The Little Mermaid. I requested a 6" chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream covered in fondant and topped with a picture of Ariel and Eric. I also asked for an anchor, the saying "Forever", and some shells and seahorses. At the time I ordered, Pat said they didn't have the seahorses anymore, but that she would try to get them for me. As you can see from the pics, she succeeded!

The cake was fresh and very good. My DH said "chocolate cake is chocolate cake, but this icing in between the layers is delicious!" Everyone but me even ate the fondant and said it was yummy. Everything was edible- either white chocolate or sugar figurines.

Cost was $125.
Date Received was 8/30/2013
Location: Garden View Tea Room at Grand Floridian
Cake info: Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, topped with Ariel and Prince Eric, decorated with an anchor, shells and seahorses
Special Note: Seahorses weren't available when I ordered, but Pat said she would try to get them. I was happy to see them on the cake when it arrived.

The little cupcakes from the wedding collection can be special ordered from the GF or Contemporary ? So if we are eating at Ohana's and Chef Mickey's we should be able to get them ? These ones I am meaning.

That cupcake was created just as part of an exhibition of the pastry team's talent—it's not a standard design that Disney has developed for guests to order all over WDW. HOWEVER, if you send a Deluxe resort pastry team a photo of that cupcake, they may be willing to attempt a re-creation for you. :thumbsup2

For Boatwright at POR we order threw POR and it is the Boardwalk Bakery that will make the cake ?

Exactly!

And for Coral Reef can we order the Mini Cakes or just large ones ?

Supposedly Epcot's pastry team can now do mini cakes. Those princess dress cakes you posted are adorable!

I have been reading this thread for months now but I'm still a little confused. I want to order a custom 6 in cake for our anniversary to be delivered to our room GF. Do I call the cake hot line number or the number for GF private dining??

Either one will work, but the numbers posted here are direct so they cut out a lot of button-pushing.

I don't want fondant. Thinking of a scene from Up-- Carl & Ellie laying in the grass looking up at the clouds. I'm hoping for just a screen print of them laying flat on the top of the cake, with flowers/ grass surrounding the image. Maybe a banner with " celebrating 35 years of adventure". DH loves chocolate cake & frosting so I'd like that, but could go with colored or white buttercream.

Is a 6 in big enough to have an image like that laying on it? Thanks!!

No, the smallest size Disney can screen print directly on the cake is for an 8-inch cake. They might be able to screen print the image on a piece of white chocolate and stand that atop a 6-inch cake.

Thank you both for providing such detailed information about the ordering processes for your cakes. It's super-helpful! :goodvibes

Happy Friday everyone!

I just placed my WDW 1st cake order. I used the MK email address and worked with a wonderful CM named Amy. We went back and forth with emails for about an hour yesterday afternoon and I just received my official confirmation email this morning.

The cake is a surprise for DH. We have a dinner at BOG on our arrival day. I ordered a 2-tier mini chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling. In a nod to BOG, the exterior of the cake will be "Belle yellow" with a deep red frosting rose as the cake topper. I also asked for green and lavender accents. Cost of the cake is $35 (minimum for a 2-tier mini).

All this takes place on 9/21 and I will post a picture either when I return or during my trip (if I can figure out how to work my first smartphone).

Thank you again, especially to lurkyloo, for all the great tips and information on Cake Chatter!

Wait, I'm confused by this now. This price is so cheap compared to some of the recent prices quoted. We're just going to be 2 people and $35 sounded like a fair price for a small cake but now I'm seeing posts quoting $70+ for mini cakes.

Is it just about how elaborate the cake is?

Thanks!

We had a mini cake in May and $35 was for a basic vanilla or chocolate with buttercream. When we wanted to add strawberries to the filling the quote was $45. If you want fondant that's more or any other add ons. It gets pricey pretty quick.

How elaborate and also if you have a filing. Fondant I think can drive the price up too

I don't yet have a picture of the cake from BoG. It was a mini cake, that cost $30. I think 2 tiny slices were taken out of it.

However, I do have the pictures of a college graduation cake from our recent trip.
It was marble with dark chocolate mouse filling, no fondant. It was THE most delicious cake any of us 6 have ever tasted!!

EDITED TO ADD: actually the grad caps & diplomas were fondant. I only meant the cake was not covered in fondant. sorry for any confusion.

Our mini cake was quoted at $70 because I asked for a 2D white chocolate stand-up Snow White on the plate next to it, strawberry mousse filling, and a lot of flowers on the cake and on the plate. So, I think that would have been $35 base price for the cake, $30 for Snow White, and $5 for the mousse filling.

Looking for help and opinions. We are 31 days out now - going Oct 5 - 12. Staying at POR. Daughter turns 5 during our stay on the 9th. We are having dinner at CRT that night. Not sure what the best day/plan is for getting a cake. Concerned about doing CRT and then having to lug leftovers around the park. Appreciate any opinions. If I don't do CRT what is the best plan? Thanks!

$35 seems to be base price for a mini cake with simple/standard trim/decorations. I was just quoted $50 from the Contemporary for a mini cake with dark chocolate mousse filling, buttercream frosting and some non-standard objects (witch hat, tombstone, pumpkin with vines, frosting spider webs). I think it's going to be adorable.

Random question...when you order a speciality cake from CR, do they give you some sort of confirmation #?

I am convinced that my mini 2-tier cake price was the $35 minimum since I kept it so basic - chocolate cake, no filling/fruit flavor other than chocolate buttercream frosting, no screen prints, no fondant, no 2D stand up, no milk chocolate figurines, etc..

I thought the price might go up since I am having the exterior in yellow frosting and left all other decorations up to the artistic choices of the pastry chef. Since the confirmation email (including cake price) didn't come until the next morning, I am assuming that a pastry chef "signed off" on the request and it wasn't considered to be elaborate.

Also, with regards to a pp who asked if there was a cake confirmation number in the email, the answer is "no" as it applies to my own personal order. However, the email did reference my ADR Confirmation number since the cake is to be delivered at our BOG dinner.

Wow! That's some price! But congrats! I'm starting to think I am going to have to sneak into one of the resort restaurant kitchens and bake my own cake, cause these prices are verging on insanity. We're just two people. Maybe I'll just put a candle in a Twinkie. Of course if I do that, I'll be headed to divorce court. Ahhhhhhhhh!

It really depends on what you want on the cake. The cakes I've ordered have all been much better priced than I could ever get at home for a lesser quality cake. But I don't need fondant or a ton of elaborate things. I'm okay with an edible chocolate image and some flowers and other embellishments on buttercream. The one cake I did get with fondant I was less than impressed with - it was still lovely and tasted fabulous, but to me I liked how much more pixiedust: the buttercream cakes seemed to have compared to the fondant cake.

Yeah, a 10-inch cake is HUGE. For 2 people, you could do a $35 mini cake or even a basic $21 6-inch cake covered in buttercream.

I will be celebrating my 40th at the Magic Kingdom this March. My booking dates for dinning will be here soon. I know I want a small fondant cake. Besides Cinderella's Castle, where is the best place to book for a cake delivery in the MK? Thanks.

We had one delivered to Tony's in March. I haven't ordered it yet, but we'll also have one delivered to Liberty Tree Tavern in October.
