OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

I am combining two birthday parties at Disney World. There's only 7 of us at the party, but they have two different ideas for a cake.

The 9yr old who normally is happy with banana muffins instead of a cake wants a cake with spaceship earth triangle patterns. I want to go the easy route, get a cake with a character on it for the cake loving son (probably Star Wars or Phin and Ferb), but somehow incorporate spaceship earth in the party decorations.

I mean, could I get a character cake with grey triangle patterns on top? I think he wants them all over. Not a sphere cake, though.

Ideas?

Is $50 a piece reasonable for a 2 mini cakes? One is a Toy Story/Jessie theme and the other is an Ariel theme? Dinner is at Cali Grill on our last night of our trip which is a birthday trip even thought their birthdays are a month or so off. Are there additional costs? Should I just stick with the slipper desserts at CRT earlier in our trip? TIA

That's a great price for 2 mini cakes. The only additional cost would be tax. If you use the Tables in Wonderland card, the automatic 18% gratuity would be applied to the total cost of the meal, including the cakes.

Back a couple of weeks ago from our trip for our 20th anniversary. Ordered a cake from Pat at the Grand Floridian for Narcoossee's. Pat was great. She took a day or so to call back when we were playing phone tag, but was very receptive to what I was wanting. I emailed her pictures and two ideas for an UP themed cake. I wanted it to include the house, since we just bought a house, and it's similar to the UP house. Wanted it to either have the mailbox, or for it to have the balloons on top of Paradise Falls. After discussing with the chefs what they could do, Pat got back to me and said we were a go. It was an 8" fondant covered marble cake with chocolate butter cream frosting/filling. YUMMY!!

Price was $175 plus tax/tip. Absolutely worth every penny!

WOW! What a beautiful cake! I have to ask. Are the "balloons" a giant sucker covered with frosting "balloons"??

You'd need to call the resort where you're dining and see what they can do for you. There are no standard sugar-free cake options, but Private Dining and/or the chef at your restaurant may have come up with some kind of sugar-free dessert.

There is no delivery charge for cakes delivered to restaurant meals.

Broke down and ordered the 2 mini cakes from Chef Donald. I sent him pictures of 2 cakes Chef Brian made for a friend of mine in February. Moved the cakes to our first night at WCC, so we can sample the delicious sounding desserts at Cali Grill on our last night. Can't wait to see my girls' faces!

I just placed my WDW 1st cake order. I used the MK email address and worked with a wonderful CM named Amy. We went back and forth with emails for about an hour yesterday afternoon and I just received my official confirmation email this morning.

The cake is a surprise for DH. We have a dinner at BOG on our arrival day. I ordered a 2-tier mini chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling. In a nod to BOG, the exterior of the cake will be "Belle yellow" with a deep red frosting rose as the cake topper. I also asked for green and lavender accents. Cost of the cake is $35 (minimum for a 2-tier mini).

All this takes place on 9/21 and I will post a picture either when I return or during my trip (if I can figure out how to work my first smartphone).

So excited to have an event to order cake for when we visit in May! DH and I will be married 20 years at the beginning of June, so I want to order a small cake.

I'm thinking just one of the two tier mini cakes... We aren't huge cake eaters (I'm a cake designer and own my own business, so more cake is the last thing my family wants...lol)

But to be in Disney and have cake made FOR me instead of BY me will be a nice treat!

I just ordered my first cake from Donald Joiner for my sister for our California Grill dinner Oct 21 on our arrival night. Just the two of us this time - sister trip!!

6" 2 layer marble cake with thick layer of chocolate chocolate mousse.
Light teal smooth butter cream frosting with darker teal accents -
Mickey design 3-dot Mickey heads on the sides.
A 2D white chocolate piece with image created from a photo of the
Peter Pan's Flight marquee above the attraction that I emailed to Donald.
It's my sister's favorite ride and will unfortunately be closed for renovation when we're there.
A sprinkling of edible silver "pixie dust".

My son will be turning two, and I was thinking about ordering the standard mickey head shaped cake. Has anyone tried this cake before? I was wondering about the taate of it. Is it dry? TIA

Here's the cake my husband designed for me for our 25th anniversary and my birthday. We picked it up from the Boardwalk Bakery on 8/12. It was yellow cake with raspberries and custard. It was supposed to be lemon curd, but since they had already made an entire new cake we didn't complain. The reason for the new cake was that the first cake was the standard Mickey head shape, not what my husband had in mind. We talked to the chef and said we'd take it, as we didn't want to waste it, but she printed out the original email and insisted the redo. The original price was $78. When we picked it up the following day, they had reduced it to $48. The cake looked fabulous and tasted delicious! It was our second cake from Boardwalk Bakery. I'll always get my cakes here, after a less than wonderful experience with a cake from the Contemporary.
