That might have been edible gum paste, I don't know what it tastes like, though.

We just got back from our 1900 Park Fare dinner and DH's "frog prince" cake. It was amazing!! Our waiter said at least 50 photos were taken by staff before they delivered it, because everyone was in love with it! I'm not sure how to post photos from an iPhone, so I may have to wait until I get home to photo bucket.

Here are the photos from our WONDERFUL cake at 1900 PF for my husband's birthday!

Here's what I requested:
Chocolate Cake with Amaretto Mousse Filling
Fondant over chocolate buttercream
Sculpted frog with gold crown on lillypad with pond scene (cattails)
Cost: $125 (TIW discount added after this)

It was AMAZING!!!! It tasted great, was very moist, and got a LOT of attention from the wait staff! I guess we thought outside the "Disney box" a little!

Hi There! After a brief (ok pretty long) break from the boards (I've been lurking a bit but not as much as I'd like to!), I'm slowly jumping back in and need some cake advice for our trip at the end of the month.

We're celebrating my six (she'll turn seven) month old's first trip (she was there twice while I was pregnant :) ) along with my son's sixth birthday while we're there. I'll also need to include my eight year old somehow...

We've got ADRs all over the place (Cinderella's Royal Table, Crystal Palace, Garden Grill, Ohana, Chef Mickey's, Akershaus, 1900 Park Fare). From past experience, we've had good luck with the Grand Floridian.

I really love the little cake in post 842 and was thinking maybe something Halloween themed with the Mickey ears (2 Mickey, 1 Minnie) - maybe pumpkins with the ears on them?

Totally open to suggestions at this point. We'll be there the 25th so I'm running out of time.

Also, isn't there an option to the chocolate slipper at CRT - like a treasure chest or ship or something? I was thinking about doing something there for the boys maybe but I don't think they want a slipper ;)

DH will be turning 35 on our next WDW trip. I haven't figured out where to go for dinner yet, but we are staying at BLT so I am thinking I will order a cake to be delivered to our room so Chef Brian can make it - he did one for us last year and it was fantastic!

I was thinking about getting a painted white chocolate statue on our cake - does anyone know if they make a donald duck chocolate statue and if it is available through the contemporary bakery?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, they've discontinued the treasure chest cakes introduced during the What Will You Celebrate campaign. I think your idea for the pumpkin Mickeys sounds great!

Donald is one of the standard white chocolate characters available at the various resorts, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting him at the Contemporary.

Great cake!!

All of the cakes on this thread look incredible, it's been great getting so many ideas for what to order!

We'll be leaving in 11 days and last week I placed an order with Contemporary Private Dining. My wife's favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid and I wanted to surprise her with a themed cake for her birthday. I had decided on a mini-cake and when I called the woman I spoke to was nice but only offered me the options of vanilla or chocolate and I was so focused on making sure that it would be LM themed that I didn't ask about other flavors/fillings. I was quoted a price of $35 (exactly what I expected.)

After thinking more about it and deciding I wanted to make sure I get my money's worth so I left a message to have my order updated. I received a call this morning from Sarah who was outstanding! She told me she was filling in but she was a huge help. After discussing what I was hoping to do I decided to upgrade it to a 6" cake. I was worried about having too much leftover but she said we'd probably have enough left for just one other serving for each of us, which is fine with me.

She said because of it being a larger area to work with they'll be able to do a much more thematic design on the cake which sounded great in my book. I went with a marble cake (DW loves vanilla and chocolate so can't go wrong there!) I wanted to get strawberries in it (her favorite fruit) and Sarah told me they can do a fresh strawberry and custard filling for it. I wasn't sold on custard at first but she told me it's made fresh in-house as opposed to the mousse, so I was sold. While she didn't go into too much detail on the cake (which is fine by me, I'm hoping to be surprised as well) she said they would print a 2D image of Ariel and Eric onto a piece of white chocolate to be placed on top which I thought was a great idea. The price for everything? $56.

When you compare this to the mini-cake it's a great deal, epseically because it would have cost $40 for the mini with the filling I chose. For only $16 I got a much more intricate design and an edible banner that can be saved to take home with us. I'm not sure which bakery Sarah normally works out of but I'd definitely order from her directly out of her location in the future!

We'll be having the cake on the 28th so I'll be sure to post some pictures of it when we get back!

I'm really, really wanting to order a special mini-cake for me and my sister's special reunion Afternoon Tea....but we are going to Party for the Senses that night. I wonder if it'd be too much food, with the addition of the tea sandwiches and scones....

It was my parents 25th wedding anniversary on Sept 26
We went to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for lunch and I had a cake delivered
I surprised my parents soooo good
Our waitress was the best, at first she brought out a cupcake and 5 plates and told our parents to share with all of us and both my parents were excited about the cupcake! Little did they know the waitress was coming out with the cake right behind them

Its a yellow fondant covered 8" cake with white chocolate mousse inside
I got it from the contemporary bakery by Chef Brian
and it cost $107

Okay, today I sent Pat an email with this picture,
Picture1-1.jpg

and these specifics...

Good Morning Pat!!

I was hoping you could help me, my sister and I are having a reunion at Disney World (haven't seen each other for over 10 years!) and I've made reservations for us to have the Grand Floridian Afternoon Tea for October 27th at 2:00 pm. I've attached a picture of a mini-cake (or perhaps cupcake?) that I'd really like to have to celebrate the reunion. I've cut and pasted most of it, but you should get the general idea. This is specifics....

1. A mini tea-cup shaped cake or cupcake (something for the size of two)
2. Pastel colors.
3. Silver or gold tinkerbell stamp (or mickey if not available) around cup at baker's creative discreation.
4. Pastel flowers in cup.
5. Gold or silver platter with "Sister's are different flowers from the same garden" written on it.

Could you please see the attached jpg file to see if this is do-able, and give me a price quote?

Thank you so much!

Well, I called and talked to her later....and the price she quoted me.

Wait for it....

$500!!!!!!! :faint: I'm like "huh"? That's five HUNDRED? She says she'd have to show it to the chef, but that's what it would probably cost. I said "you realize this is a MINI cake for two, right?

Then I told her about my wedding cake, which the GF made for me and DH, that cost $160

Okay, is it just me, or is there something wrong with this "estimate"?

That's insane! It sounds to me, based on some of the posts I've been reading, that the Pat and the GF are trying to discourage custom cake orders.

Chef Brian at the Contemporary, on the other hand, is really on the ball. I'd consider contacting him and switching your ADR if necessary. At least it might be an option.

Whatever you end up doing, good luck and I hope your reunion is magical. pixiedust:

Thanks for the suggestion...I was having flashbacks of working with Linda at GF for our wedding cake, I think she gave me PTSD!! :rotfl: But we are having Afternoon Tea, so I don't think working with Brian is an option. I "settled" for a while chocolate slipper with chocolate moose with pastel buttercream flowers on it for $15. My sister won't know the difference, but I just wanted something really special for our reunion.....but just being with my sister after so many years is going to be special enough :goodvibes I special ordered these pendants for our luncheon from Etsy (made from a china plate)

I think estimate is a very kind word. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she clearly just failed to understand the concept or neglected to read the something for two part. Anything else is just robbery and is not on par with even top cake people/cake celebs in the industry. Not even close.

Definitely no miscommunication...when I spoke with her, I reiterated several times..."This is a MINI cake for TWO, like cupcake shaped like a tea cup." Then I mentioned the 10" wedding cake we had made at GF that was only $160..... She said because of the "details", it would probably run that much. I asked if she'd go ahead and push to the chef for an estimate, and she was very evasive like "It's not going to be much less, if any, because of the details". But I was very specific how small it was.
