Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Sorry in advance for all the dumb questions that are about to follow - I'm just a tad overwhelmed.

So, my mother and I will be celebrating my seventeenth birthday in Disneyworld. I was cruising the DIS and looking at cakes when she came over to see. "Oh!" she said. "They'll make birthday cakes?! I should order you a birthday cake!"

Well, needless to say, that was a nice little surprise... But the more I got into it, the more I realized what she meant by "I should order you a birthday cake" was I should do all the work: figure out how to get it, when to order it, where to deliver it to, what size to get, what flavors to get, what decorations, if any to get - and she'd call the number, place the order, and pay for it.

Sooo, I have a handful of questions. Obviously, this is way in advance, so my planning is just in the embryonic stage atm. I know some of these are going to be repeats, and I'm sorry - I'd just really like to know for sure.

Cakes CAN be delivered to you at Cinderella's Royal Table, right? And if not finished, they can be boxed up and taken back to the resort, correct? What size would you recommend for two light eaters, to snack on over the course of about 3 days? And is there anyway I could get a few chocolate covered strawberries added on to a cake that small?

Thank you! Sorry for the hassle. :lovestruc

Yes and Yes....Yes they will deliver the cake to CRT and they will box the left over cake...The smallest cake would be best...What about the mini castle cake???

We got a small round for our anniversary last year for two adults and two kids and it was way too big, even though it was the small...I guess it was too much after the meal...We boxed it but ended up tossing it a few days later.

Not sure about the strawberries but I would guess yes....Ask when you call to order you cake.

Have a happy birthday :wizard:

Thanks for the help! And actually, I'd been thinking about the mini-castle cake, but I'd kind of decided against it mostly because I have no affection for white chocolate. (This is the small, round cake with the white chocolate castle on top, correct?) I would definitely go for that one if I could have the castle done in milk or dark chocolate instead. Is that an option? And would that cake need to be refridgerated? (I'm assuming so, because of the buttercream, but I'm not sure.)

Yes...Small with the castle on top...Not sure if they would do in milk or dark but maybe someone else will know (or you can call hotline to ask)...I feel like the answer is yes they can do it but again just a guess...

Yes, it will need to be refridgerated that is why I thought the smaller the better...Then you can just eat it there and be done with it....We always have a room with a frig so it was no issue for us...Don't know if that will be the same for you...What about the slipper? They make that in milk/dark chocolate?!?

I feel like it's a little early, yet, to call the hot line (since I'm not going until October) but I'll definitely make sure to ask, and also go ahead and have a back-up cake. And as for the shoe, I read earlier in this thread that it is normally served as white chocolate. Sometimes it is served as dark chocolate, but there's apparently no way to ensure you'll get dark chocolate until it's actually served.

never hurts calling just to ask a question ;)

Thanks for the info! It all makes sense, now that it's been revealed that CR does all the cakes for MK. :thumbsup2

no prob! btw totally loved your anniversary cake!!! just getting back on the boards after 8 days(okay and a week at home that's been busy planning mays trip) at the world.

I would love some suggestions from the experts! We are celebrating my son's 4th birthday at GF Cafe (or Kona) I have 2 ressies. We are just a party of 4, so I would like a smaller cake. Do they make the fancy cakes in 6"? Or do they make any of the mini wedding, kid friendly? He loves Toy Story, Dinosaurs, and Spiderman! Any ideas? The Mickey Head is nice, and affordable, but it looks huge!
Thanks!!

here's my situation:
i am taking my DD and her three best friends to disney world this summer for her 16th birthday. one of her friends is going to be celebrating her 16th birthday as well and i know her and her friends have saved up some money to buy that friend a cake.
they really wanted to have it delivered to the restaurant they will be dining at that day (coral reef). but i don't know if that is possible...is it?
i have been doing some research but i really would like more information..
can i have some ideas for a "totally awesome" (i am quoting her there obviously:rotfl:) cake with a price range of up to $125.
HELP!!!!!:scared1:

The Grand Floridian is one of the few places where you can get a customized 6-inch cake, so yes! Get the small one. That Mickey Head cake can feed 12 or 15 people. :teeth:

You might try searching Flickr.com for "cake" and the loves you listed above, just to get inspiration.

It is possible to have a cake delivered to Coral Reef, but not a fancy cake. The best Epcot can do is whipped cream frosting and a screen print. If you want a totally awesome cake (which can indeed be had for $125), you'd need to be dining at the Magic Kingdom or any Deluxe resort but Animal Kingdom.

Sending in a picture is definitely the best way to go. There is no Disney web site of standard cakes or options—every order is a custom order. The pastry chef will be able to tell you what flavors and fillings are available at the Yacht Club (feel free to come back and post them here! :teeth: ), and then he can pretty much do whatever your heart desires. That's why it's a good idea to gather pictures from the Internet and send them to the pastry chef.

Like I said, Flickr is a great resource, along with Cake Central (http://cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-photos.html) and any of the hundreds of wedding web sites. You can tell the chef you want elements from different pictures combined, just be sure you are clear on what goes where.

I ordered a Haunted Mansion cake from Donna at the Grand Floridian for my daughter’s 16th birthday. Our trip was delayed from October and she was extremely surprised to receive the cake at her very favorite character meal.

I have other pictures of the celebration and cake in this album. The cake was chocolate with chocolate crème filling. It has a chocolate fondant with edible chocolate figures. The back wall which did not photograph to great is the wallpaper from the haunted mansion. It was two tier and total cost was $100.00 not including the tip.

My son is turning 3 while we are staying. I have all ready had lurkyloo and a few others help me, but one last question. Can the Mickey Mouse Head cake be delivered to Coral Reef? I read three places in here that it can, but I want them to hand pipe it and no where does it say anything about that.

I showed him all kinds of designs and that is the one he goes crazy over. That or a clubhouse Mickey one. I guess simple is better for him. Does it really feed 12 people?

i know for a fact that really fancy cakes cannot be sent to any epcot restaurants. they only do the image roll on cakes or the podium order ones.
they should though! i need a cake delivered to coral reef too!

sent my request email to Brian today for our "thank you" cake I'm ordering to celebrate visiting with friends during our trip, will be viewing Wishes from Top of the World at Bay Lake Tower (my friends are staying there!!!)

going with the 10" goofy cake in the 2nd post with buttercream icing and strawberry filling...yummy!

will keep you all updated and will post photos when we get back!!

Has anyone seen a Main Street Electrical Parade cake? I am looking for a relatively small cake but would :lovestruc to see one with this design.

I know it's available at Epcot. It is one of the podium cakes, but I wonder if the Chef would hand pipe it? It's not that hard. In fact, I would do it if they would give me the tools...lol
