Here's my latest attempt at getting the perfect cake from Disney:
We did an "Old Hollywood"-themed
anniversary dinner at Tower of Terror a few weeks ago, and I wanted a cake with a light-up topper because I thought we were going to be seated at the dark end of the terrace there. I found a cake style I liked on Flickr and then dreamed up a sort of "Art Deco light fixture" topper for the bakery to create based on another DISer's Disney wedding cake. However, since my husband wasn't in on this surprise, I had to draw the idea myselfand I have the artistic abilities of a 3-year-old!
As a result, the topper turned out more like a tiara than a wall sconce...

I asked for red velvet cake with cream cheese
frosting instead of mousse, cuz I think Disney's mousse is bland. It was pretty tasty for a Disney cake (about like a Publix cake), but I guess frosting isn't as lofty as mousse, so the cake was kinda squat-looking. The good thing about having frosting instead of mousse was that the cake didn't spoil in our suitcase on the trip home the next day, and we were able to eat more of it that week.
Because of the topper, the cake cost $180too much for a trio of Floralytes jammed into the top behind a 1-dimensional tiara cutout, if you ask me, especially when compared to the amazing fondant topper the GF Bakery created for our
first anniversary cake for less money! However, the other decorations were really well doneand hey,
@CakeWrecks even said she liked the cake, so what am I complaining about?
This cake was made by the Park Events Operation Bakery. I have since investigated whether you can get them to make a cake for a restaurant meal in Hollywood Studios, since they seem to have the ability to do fancier designs than the generic chocolate/chocolate or vanilla/vanilla cakes you get when you call the Cake Hotline. Unfortunately, I was told that the events bakery is separate from the theme park bakery. Apparently the 8-inch and 10-inch cakes you can order for a meal at a DHS restaurant are covered in fondant, but they are not fancy and the only decoration you can add is a screen print.
