I asked Pat about it and told her I saw it quoted as $65 (and I pointed out that it might have been a few years ago) and she asked me where people were getting their quotes from. I know they charge an additional $5 for the strawberries in it. Maybe it's because it's a 10 inch cake? I can't wait to see what it turns out to look like though and hopefully they will get it just right.

Ah—that makes sense. The $65 cake was a 6-inch. :thumbsup2

I'm debating on getting a cake for our trip in 3 weeks now...I'm just not sure where I should get one at. We will be dining at Cali Grill, Narcoossee's and Jiko just to name a few. Does the AKL do cakes? Taste wise who has the best? I know I'm asking for opinions but they matter to me ;) TIA!

I dont think the AKL does cakes. Taste wise I am still guessing myself when I order. Now Mrs. Lurkyloo did a taste test but that was between the Sara Lee cakes served in Epcot and the MK (MK cakes won that one hands down).

I think there are more flavor/filling options at the Floridian's Bakery though.

:rotfl: AKL makes cakes, but not fancy cakes. Taste-wise, all the bakeries on property use the same recipes, so the cakes all taste the same. The difference would be between the simple cakes with buttercream frosting inside and the fancy cakes with various flavors of filling inside (personally, I prefer their buttercream to any of the mousse fillings I've had in Disney cakes, but then I'm cool with supermarket cake, so take that for what it's worth :teeth: ). I suppose there's also freshness to consider, but that seems to be a crapshoot—people have reported getting fresh-tasting and stale-tasting cakes at both GF and CR. I say order the cake for the restaurant you're eating at first so you have time to eat it all during the rest of the trip. :goodvibes

OO n question I can answer!!! Yes the AKL does indeed do cakes!! We had one in 2009 and it was OMG AMAZING!! it tasted like a Zebra Dome in cake form!!! I asked for what would be their 'signature' cake I wish I could remember what I paid for it though sorry :(

Any idea who you contacted to order it?

Okay, so I have finally made it to the end of the board...whew! Well, I did skip over 100 pages, but still....

So I'm trying to come up with fun, new things to do with my family at Disney. I've been going to Disney my entire life, my husband and I both worked for Disney, we got married there, and now we're DVC members. Not to mention, both my FIL and SIL are CMs. Oh, and my DM just retired from the Disney Store. With that said, Disney has become more of a routine and I want to make it exciting.

We're going to Vero Beach for spring break and then we're heading to AKL in June. As of right now, I don't have any ADRs, but would possibly make those based on cake availability. I want to go somewhere fun to eat with 2 boys (so preferably no princesses ;) ). But I would want to order a fancy cake. We had a cake ordered for our engagement dinner at O'hana's and it was not good, at all. Very disappointing. However, our wedding cake from GF was amazing. I still (4 years later) have some in our freezer, and it tastes great! I am pretty picky because I make over the top custom cakes for a living. Any suggestions? TIA!

Truthfully, I just called the front desk and they transferred me to the head baker LOL

I can tell you that the cake was not just the standard Mickey head cake. I will have to try to post a picture of it...... but it really did taste like a Zabra Dome in cake form........

That does look yummy! Since we are going to Jiko for our Anni dinner I was thinking it'd be good to get one from there. We have a gourmet bakery here who makes wonderful cakes/cupcakes using all quality ingredients from scratch so it'd probably be hard to top her IMO.

I have had a cake That Cake man Bri made. It was so outstanding . We are going back in April for a split stay BLT and BCV. It would work out best time wise to have a cake made for the boys and delivered to BCV or Cape May...but I am worried It may not be as wonderful as what cake man does. I have researched the posts and I did see just a very few form YC/BC. Anyone have good or bad from experiences to share.

Wow! That looks so yummy. I love the zebra domes. We stay in concierge at AKL sometimes and they have them there too. I'll have to call and see if they can still do that. Do you by chance remember about how much it was? Thanks!

I believe it was somewhere around $80 or so....... they asked me when we were checking in (time) and had it ready and as SOON as we had a room number they whisked it up to the room to be waiting for us..... it was awesome!!!

This time we're doing a Jack Skellington MadHatter ;)

I have a question I'm hoping some of you can answer. We will be celebrating my son's 6th birthday at Chef Mickey's on our first full evening. I want to get a nice pirate cake for my son from the Contemporary Bakery and was hoping to bring it back to the room and eat on it through the week.

However, we will be going back to MK after our meal to watch the fireworks. I really don't want to carry a cake around. Will/Can they send our cake back to the Beach Club, where we will be staying?

Thanks for any input!!

The only way to get a GF cake is to eat/stay at the GF or have one delivered to a meal at the Poly (the one you got at Ohana probably came from the Poly bakery). The cakes at AKL don't really get any fancier than that zebra dome cake, but it looks like maybe that will suit your needs...?

They can do pretty elaborate stuff at Y&BC Bakery, and I've never seen anyone complain about a cake from there, if that helps.

They can't send your cake back to the Beach Club but they *may* hold it for you at the restaurant. Otherwise, you can try checking it with Bell Services at the Contemporary—they have a fridge.

I just found these pictures I took last Christmas at the Grand Floridian. They had this mini cake on display at M. Mouse Mercantile, the gift shop upstairs. Not sure if this is a standard offering, but maybe you could request something similar from the GF by sending Private Dining a picture.

Do you think I could have the Chocolate slipper sent up to Top of the World Lounge for DD's 13th? We will be staying there & are DVC members.

That's the cake that is included in the Birthday Surprise In-Room Celebration that the Disney Florist does. The banner behind it is also included. The cake is in "Minnie's Box".

Well that's interesting... I wonder if it's possible to just get the cake if you can't afford the whole $$$ Birthday Surprise. :lmao:

This is going to sound strange, but it's not really a cake either. We didn't eat it while we were there. It was a short trip for my DS 10's birthday and we shipped a box full of stuff back home. When it got back it was one flat piece of chocolate, competely melted. I figured by the look of it that it must have been some sort of mousse or something, definitely not a regular cake.:confused3

:rotfl2: Oh man, now I'm gonna have to order one just to see what it looks like when it's all melted... I'm thinking kinda... cowpie-ish? :teeth:

Yeh, it was kind of strange!:lmao: Still had the Minnie head disc in tact though!
