Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

Yeah we talked to someone at the Animal Kingdom Lodge cake line who took our information and promised to email us but...nothing. So we're calling again today. Both kids have birthdays the week we're there so we definitely want to make sure we get something! They're young enough that they WILL care if there's no cake!

Just a heads up- I emailed the GF cake email last week and received a reply stating they would only deliver cakes $100 and up. That seems to not match some experiences here, but that’s what she said.

I wrote to GF this morning and can confirm this:

"I will be more than happy to assist, we are able to deliver to AKL, however the cake order will have to be $100.00 or higher before taxes to qualify for delivery, & the cake will have to be paid in full the day we finalize the order, lastly, we will need to have this order in within 72 hours prior your event."

Hi -- a few updates on my cake order! My brother is celebrating his birthday when we are in Epcot and I wanted to order a cake for our dinner at Le Cellier. I tried the number for Epcot, 407-560-6395, and got a message that the number is out of service. FYI. So I called the Grand Floridian number and spoke to a very nice lady who said they deliver to Epcot, depending on the restaurant. Le Cellier is one of the restaurants they deliver to, so I was able to place an order for GF to deliver a cake there. My brother is a big monorail fan, so I went with a monorail/epcot design. I paid for the cake at the time I ordered. I will post pics after! Thanks for this great resource!

Just ordered 2 6" cakes (buttercream) for March to be delivered to our resort, $130 each. Themes of Belle for one and Ariel for the other. Pricey but...hopefully worth it!

I’m a little delayed in posting our latest custom cake order. It was for my daughter’s birthday which happens to be on Christmas Day. It was made by the GF cake team. My daughter loves Mary Blair’s art so I asked for a Mary Blair theme. I requested something that resembled Mary’s concept art for Cinderella but I was told they couldn’t do that due to copyright. Went with it’s a small world theme with Fantasyland colors instead. Ordered an 8” “Princess Tea Cake” (same flavors as the Perfectly Princess Tea Party cake) with fondant icing. Delivered to LTT for our Christmas Day lunch. The price had gone up quite a bit since our March custom cake order from GF bakery team. This cake was $225 before tax, $239.73 with tax.

I'm starting to get worried. I left a message on the Contemporary line on Tuesday and haven't heard back. I just left another message. They have to be ordered at least 72 hours in advance but they only take calls on weekdays. So if I don't hear back from them soon, I won't be able to get a cake by next Friday. It's kind of a bummer because this is probably the only time my daughter will get to celebrate her actual birthday in Disney. I started by trying Wilderness Lodge for weeks. Now I've been trying Contemporary this week. I'm kind of surprised they don't just have some kind of online ordering system for simple things like they do for room decorations, cupcakes, etc.

Call the main number for the resort (really just a call center) and ask to be transferred to Private Dining at the Contemporary. Tell the person who answers that you've been trying for 2 weeks to place a cake order.

I'm a little late in sharing the cakes I ordered for my son's and husband's birthday in January. We ordered from the Grand Floridian, to be delivered to Crystal Palace. The process of ordering was very easy, but I would recommend against having a cake delivered to CP. The waiter couldn't find the cake, then, even after I told him one of the cakes was a surprise for my husband, kept talking about the "two cakes" in front of him. He eventually found the cake, but didn't provide candles or do anything really (we celebrated my older son's first birthday there in 2018, and even though we didn't order a cake, they brought out a special dairy free desert for him, with candles and sang happy birthday). I asked him about the candles, and he said they weren't allowed because of fire. So ya, while the cakes were awesome, the experience at CP was really bad.

Cake 1 was a Mini 2 Tier cake with buttercream icing and star wars theme in Chef's choice for $45 + tax. I would recommend against the black icing, because our mouths were all black after eating the cake. It was delicious though.

Cake 2 was a 6" chocolate cake with the grey stuff filling. I talked extensively with Julie about what I wanted, and this is what we came up. The cake was gorgeous, and delicious. It was HUGE though. We ate cake for the remainder of our trip. Something else to consider, if you need to carry your cake around afterwards, I went into the emporium and asked for one of the big bags. The box just fit, and made it a lot easier to carry it around.

@accm Thanks for sharing a detailed account of your experience!
This thread was so helpful when I was figuring out what I wanted to do, so I'm really grateful for all the help you and everyone else provide here!

I caught the Disney cake bug though, and am already thinking about a cake for our next trip! We have extended family coming with us to run the 5k during Marathon weekend, so I'm thinking of ordering a "We did it" cake to be delivered right after the race.

Does anyone have any pictures of runDisney inspired cakes?

I am planning a quick weekend trip in June to celebrate my 40th bday and DD graduating high school. We are staying the the Poly. Will be eating at Tony’s and CRT at MK(hopefully) and maybe Ohana/Kona. Will GF still deliver to either of those places. I’m sure the total will be well over $100. Not sure if I’ll get a mini cake for DD or 2 6” cakes. We are a family of 5 and only staying for 2 days. We certainly don’t need 2 cakes but I feel like each celebration deserves it own. Plus it’s my birthday and I want a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting! (My favorite and no one else will eat it)

I was told that GF wouldn't deliver to MK so I was surprised to see that the poster above got them to! Your order MUST be over $100 (each unless you're having them delivered together) for them to deliver in general. We are having ours delivered to our resort.

I ordered a cake from GF to be delivered to Epcot next week. It was above $100. I’d give them a call and ask, as you never know!

Right now the GF is delivering to any Disney-owned location; people are getting mixed messages on MK delivery, but the Poly is not a problem. Also, peanut butter frosting is LIFE!

Regarding peanut butter frosting, my memory is foggy now, since I ordered these cakes in December, but I remember asking for the peanut butter frosting, but it wasn't available. I don't remember why though. But just though I'd mention it so you have a backup just in case. As delicious as the grey stuff was, I'm not sure if that would've been my choice had I known the peanut butter wasn't going to be available.

I miss the peanut butter brownie dessert at Mara. Kids are allergic to nuts so I would always get my fix from there. The mickey shaped one just doesn’t cut it (brownie is sweeter and peanut butter less creamier)

I love this line from the DFB review: "A+ for creativity, D- for reducing the amount of peanut butter frosting!" :rotfl:

Has anyone successfully contacted the Contemporary bakery? I left a message for them at the number on this thread last week, and haven’t heard back. I need a cake for next week and am getting antsy! Grand Floridian answered right away, but they won’t deliver to the restaurant I need (Whispering Canyon). I could do a pickup there but I’d rather not.
