We are going to be doing the royal table princess package for my daughter and I just have a question about the cake. It mentions that you can choose either chocolate or vanilla cake, but what frosting is it? Is it vanilla frosting with both? Also, do people have a preference on which cake tastes better?
Thank yoU!
I believe it's chocolate with chocolate and vanilla with vanilla. We had a great chocolate cake from another bakery (but they use the same recipes for all cakes)

Our CRT cake was chocolate cake with chocolate mousse. It was covered in a layer of buttercream and then covered in fondant. It was moist and delicious! The mousse was amazing.

While not from CRT, we ordered a cake from the contemporary for my husband's birthday that was white cake with white chocolate mousse. It was also good, although the filling just tasted like vanilla pudding to me! My husband loved it though!

Has anyone done a cake on a private Wishes Cruise? We have one leaving from the Poly on a night in Sept and I'd love to do a Tangled theme with the lanterns. I'm going to contact the GF to ask if they will do it, but I was just curious if anyone had!

Has anybody gotten the domed character cakes from Amorette's? I left them a message and am waiting to hear back, but I was wondering if anyone had any first hand opinions on those cakes. It's really my plan B, but I got a quote on a cake from the Contemporary, and it's the first time in the last 6 or so years where the quote seems unusually high...to the point that I'm seriously considering plan B. Thanks :)

My apologies for the long winded post. LOL

I was going to call the contemporary this morning, but had 2 email's from them when I woke up.
I wanted to get your opinions, since I have never ordered cakes before.
The cake I ordered yesterday for delivery to POP is a 2 tier mini cake chocolate with chocolate mousse filling
decorated to look like Mickey Mouse with chocolate Mickey ears on top price is $35 which I prepaid.

The e-mail I sent to the contemporary cake e-mail basically said this:
"I am thinking of ordering a 2 Tier Mini Cake for our Cali Grill dinner.
I would like it to say Happy 21st Birthday Joseph on the cake board.
He loves Pirates of the Caribbean and chocolate cake.
I would love to talk to someone who can help with the design."

Here is the e-mail I received today from Donald, cake decorator at the Contemporary.
"Hi Michelle, we can make a mini 2 tiered cake decorated in a pirate theme and the price would be $65.
This would include a small 2D image of the Pirates of Caribbean image next to it.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
To place your order, please contact our cake hotline at 407-824-2955 and a cast member will assist you."

The 2nd e-mail was from Carolyn in the Private dining...
"I see the bakery has answered your e mail concerning a $65.00 pirate mini 2 tier cake.
We can do this cake in vanilla with a white chocolate mousse filling or a chocolate with a dark chocolate mousse filling.
I would need the inscription you’d like on the base plate as well as the confirmation #, time and name the reservation would be under.

For those of you experienced with ordering cakes at WDW...
He didn't really elaborate what the cake would look like other then "pirate theme with a small 2 D image next to it."
I'm wondering why almost double the price?
Does this sound right? I'm a little nervous.

The 2D image would definitely be one reason for the higher price, I think leaving the design up to the professionals is great it gives them the creative freedom to do what they do best. I paid $60 for a fondant covered mini cake with a haunted mansion theme, no image. It would have been $70 if they had made a gate topper but I changed it to roses. You could ask them to cut the 2D image and see what the price would be.

Do you have a pic of your mini haunted mansion cake?

I can't fully answer your question, but I just got a quote back from Chef Donald for a cake and it was absurdly high. We've ordered a number of cakes from the Contemporary bakery over the years and I was expecting this one to come in around $110-125. His quote...$180 for something 'like' my sketch. I've tried to dissect the costs of our similar cakes ordered through them and I can't figure out the pricing unless they've had a major change in how they price their cakes out. Inflation is one thing, but this was a shock. With your cake, the only thing I can think of is maybe they are planning on the chocolate ship or skull, the sand details, treasure chest, etc. Still, that was nowhere in your request or his description. I would definitely ask him why it's so much more than what they quoted for your cake at Pop that'll be made by BW Bakery.

Sort of... We both forgot our phones so I only have a picture of the top layer we took back to the roomView attachment 178645
This was the inspiration pic I sent themView attachment 178646

Too funny. As lurkyloo has mentioned in the past, there always seems to be little consistency in responses. I sent the exact same inspiration photo to the CR bakery last year and again earlier this year, asking for a 2-tier mini cake with wallpaper print fondant and a gate on top. The responses: not possible to put a gate on top of the mini cake and not possible to do the wallpaper print fondant on a mini cake. So whenever I see this photo and read about the offer to put a mini gate on top, I wonder! We ended up with plain purple fondant, the black roses on top, a 2d hitchhiking ghost picture and some fun accents (like skulls.) It was $65 but I would have gladly paid $70 to ditch the hitchhiking ghosts, and add the the gate on top/wallpaper fondant. Our boys loved the cake, but it's always interesting to see photos of the cake that was "not possible."

Mine was made by the Yacht Club... Maybe try them if you ever want to try again? But yeah, the inconsistency is so confusing

A group of us are going to Disney in early September to celebrate my son's 2nd birthday. I want to get him a birthday cake and we are eating at Be Our Guest the night of his birthday. There will be 8 of us, and since we will be staying in the parks afterwards I don't want to worry about leftovers.

The date we will need the cake is 9/9. How soon should I make contact?

Who does the cakes for Be Our Guest? And does anyone have experience with getting cakes from them?

Wondering if anyone would have an idea of how much a cake with this design might cost?

Any other helpful information would be appreciated! I've never ordered a cake at Disney before but based on everything I've seen and heard they look phenomenal.

Would you recommend trying the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian for a two tired mini cake similar to this one?
Grand Floridian and Polynesian use the same Grand Floridian bakery. I originally was planning a cake there and spoke with Pat Anderson, but ended up changing my reservation to the California Grill.

Additionally, that shaped cake is a "Mad Hatter" design which I believe starts at $160+ and is not typically made in mini tiers for $35.

Thank you for the quick info. It will just be DD and myself so anything larger than a mini will be a waste I'm afraid. I wonder if they can do a mad hatter theme without the cake shape?

I am sure they could mimic the styling, but I am unsure if they would be able to do the shaping of the layers on a cake that size. I did not inquire about a mini cake, but I have seen they can vary from the designs on the original post with a price increase.

I would try contacting Pat through the Cake Line to discuss options. From what I remember, she worked Tuesday through Saturday (at least back in April).

Just wanted to share our cake from the Contemporary bakery. It was amazing, even better than I imagined! I chose the image from two examples they sent and asked for purple fondant and piped lanterns on the side. I was surprised by the beautiful silhouettes and braid. This cake was just stunning in person. It was 6" almond cake with amaretto crunch filling, delicious! It was $64.

You can do it now, but definitely call back again two weeks ahead of time, and again two days ahead of time to be sure that they still have your order.

Who does the cakes for Be Our Guest? And does anyone have experience with getting cakes from them?

The Contemporary Resort makes the cakes for Be Our Guest. I have ordered many cakes from them, and they were all delicious.

Wondering if anyone would have an idea of how much a cake with this design might cost?

They are going to tell you that you need a 10 inch cake, but you could definitely get away with an 8 inch cake and still have leftovers. I would say that a cake that looks like that would cost between $125 and $175, depending on how elaborate the design is .

Yes, they can do Mad Hatter theming on mini cakes, just not the shape.
