*~~Official December 2016 Thread~~*

So excited for our trip! We LOVE WDW and our DS, age 12, says hey have been the best trips ever.

But, I need some help. I'm finding it super hard to put together our trip plan this time. It will be our 3rd trip WDW over Christmas break (Dec 17-24), and I'm not sure where to begin. There are no reliable extended park hours posted and I can't seem to find much in the way of nighttime entertainment. During our last two visits, we would stay late and close down the parks. We went to 10:00 F!, 10:00 MSEP, stayed in some of the parks until after 11:00.

Now no MSEP, no later F! scheduled, and park closings at 9:30? Am I missing something? Am I just too early in my planning?

They do extend the park hours during christmas time but I'm not sure when they will announce updated hours, most parks end up with longer hours. I am going the same time period as you (17-29 Dec) and I have also been unable to plan parks based on the hours currently published. I have just continued planning anyway in order to make ADR's and I'm hoping the park hours when released will fit in with my plans.

Stitch is VERY fun to meet!! These pictures are from 2014 and are some of my favorites. He was fun at Ohana, too :stitch2: We are big fans! I've always loved the movie, but every time we watch it, I get more and more emotional. I used to enjoy it because it was cute and funny, but now for whatever reason, I cry my way through it, LOL!! I'm a giant baby. My oldest had an echo cardiogram yesterday and that's the movie we picked to watch while it was going on. Lilo and Stitch is definitely a part of our family! Every trip yields multiple Stitch related souvenirs.

As for MVMCP, we really enjoy meet and greets, so that will be something we work in throughout the evening. We will line up for Jack right after dinner because he is number one for my 11 year old, and then we'll assess the situation with the 7 Dwarfs. I know their line will be incredibly long but if we can do it in an hour or less, we'll wait. Scrooge is another must-meet for us, and then we'll hit up Santa Goofy and the other characters in their holiday outfits. Other than that, we will join the mob in front of the castle for the show, parade, and fireworks. I don't think rides will be a priority for us at the party, but we will probably ride Jingle Cruise and Haunted Mansion for sure. Jingle Cruise because we're Jungle Cruise fans and we'll want to ride with the holiday overlay on the holiday party night, and HM because we ride it a gazillion times a trip anyway, and it isn't an MK evening without at least two trips through the mansion for us! I've tried to look at some maps from other years, but they all just say "character meet and greet" without naming specific characters. Kenny the Pirate does have a rundown that lists past locations, but I don't want to get too caught up in that since things always change. We'll probably grab a map when we get our wristbands and look over it while we're eating dinner to plan our evening.

I'm really excited for late November to roll around when our thread members start hitting the parks and parties and we can hear some feedback :-)

Love the stitch meeting pics! Hope your oldest is okay.

We have 3 days at the parks before our MVMCP day so I will know better by then how my dd likes the characters. She may be scared of full costume characters but I read that Olaf might have a meet & greet at the party. She may want to do that. I know we want to see the shows & my kids would like the dance parties so we'll do them. Like your family, rides won't be a priority for us. I'll have to make sure I grab a map when we enter the park. I'm looking forward to reading Kenny the pirate's & wdwprepschool review on it once the start in November.

It's so hot out here that it's hard to think about Christmas stuff. Lol

Good morning, Friends!

Finally more than a couple of seconds to post!

Both kids have done Back to School night, got locker assignments, etc...This year they will both be in middle school, so no running back and forth for me this year, thank goodness! One year of that was quite enough!!

Their first day is Monday, so we're trying to enjoy the last few days before going back to the "real life" of school. Usually I am more than ready for them to go back, but this year summer went by so quickly, and I'm dreading next week. At least I'll have some time to get my house clean...is that a positive?? Haha!

I've started getting myself all worked up about traveling in December now. I guess I didn't think about it too hard at first, was just coasting by on general Disney excitement, but now all I can think about is bad weather here at home, delayed/cancelled flights, etc...No real panic or anything, just a daily "what if..." that creeps into my head and needs shut down with thoughts of other things like coffee, Zac Efron movies, the hairstyle of the Olympic USA men's gymnastic team, cake...you know, distractions.

Our plan for this trip is to keep everything loose and open, but I'm going to start sitting down and working up a plan of attack for our Epcot days, at least for seeing the different "holidays around the world" speakers. I have a strong feeling we're going to pop into Epcot often since we'll be so close at the Boardwalk.

I also have to say, I'm probably the only person who cheered when I found out MSEP was going away, LOL!! I have never had a good experience with that darn parade, and people seem to be on their very worst behavior during and after it. The music starts up and my blood pressure rises! I do wonder if they'll bring over Paint the Night, I know opinions on that are split between "No, they said they won't" and "Yes, my neighbor went and asked a bus driver and they ARE". We saw it in June at Disneyland. It's a fun parade, but to me, nothing matches Festival of Fantasy during the afternoon. It's my very favorite. I'm really looking forward to the holiday parade during MVMCP, though! I do love a parade! (just not Main Street Electrical!!)

On another controversial topic, I'm also team No Handle on the Disney mug/tumbler situation. The day before it was announced, I was grumbling while putting away dishes because the mugs are such a pain to have in the cabinet. The handles make them take up so much space. Also, plus one for them being able to fit in cup holders. We never took them into the parks, so I do see why people will miss being able to use a carabiner to clip them to things, though. It will make it hard for one person to do a fill up, too. I'm planning to get a caddy thing from Thirty-One I saw on another thread that can carry 4 or so at a time. But, my line of thinking says a week at WDW with inconvenient cups is less important than those cups being in my house for much, much longer than a week. I need that cabinet space!

That's my rambles for now! Hope everyone is having a great week so far!!
Lol! I thought I was the only one OK with MSEPnleaving with a preference for no handles on the mugs! I was afraid to say anything!!!

Wondering what everyone thinks after hearing that the Main Street Electrical Parade will be ending October 9th at Magic Kingdom. I am so disappointed as I have been saving for this our first Disney trip for years and we will miss it now. I also had the Main Street Electrical Parade Dining Package for Tony's that I was so excited to get and now will be useless. My travel agent said the parade will probably not be replaced due to time constraints and money problems for Disney. She also said she heard that the Tony's dining packages will be cancelled with no other option given. I had scheduled to be at Magic Kingdom on 2 predicted very high attendance days in order to see the parade and Wishes when there was not a Xmas party taking place and now I am wondering if it is worth it but is late now to change my schedule due to already having made ADRs. Just wondering others thoughts or if you have heard anything?
I'm ok with it, it was never a favorite of mine. I was hoping they would have some sort of replacement coming though. I'm still holding out hope they will replace it.

Recently got our tickets to MVMCP for December 9. Beyond excited! :) I spoke with the best CM yesterday who suggested we consider attending the second parade the night of the party because it's far less crowded. Lots of people go to the earlier parade and leave after the fireworks. The second parade is after the fireworks apparently. Just passing it on in the event that it is helpful planning information to anyone.

She also told me about the talking Mickey character! Does everyone else know about this?! Where have I been? lol I did read something about him on the boards but she elaborated to explain it's a meet and greet at Town Square and getting FPs is an option if you are so inclined. I'm ridiculously excited about meeting him! :)

I've read quite a few times that the 2nd parade is far less crowded. I'm interested to see what time it will be. Did the CM know?

I didn't know where talking Muchey was located. I'll make a mental note. I saw some posts that parents were asking for advice on what to tell their kids if they ask why that Mickey talks & the others don't. My dd would definitely ask so I'm going to be ready with an answer. I'm not good while put on the spot even if it's by a 3yo.

Congrats on your tickets!. We plan on the 2nd parade also-

Added another day to trip-better stop or I may have to move into the castle soon.

I read somewhere to attend the parade both times if you can. This is our first mvmcp so I think we are going to try to do this. If we decide not to see it the second time, we'll hit the rides or finish up character greets.

I think talking Mickey is in town square. I looked up the pamphlet from last year to get an idea of the times. The second parade was at 10:30.

I did some searching and he says things like "Oh, you're here!" Like, out of allll these people, I'm so happy to see YOU! :) And "I've been waiting for you!" That's a really great idea to have an answer ready for the question of why he talks and others don't!

The CM said the parades are at 8:30 and 10:30 with fireworks at 9:45 (but I've heard 10:00 as well for FW).

Congrats on your tickets!. We plan on the 2nd parade also-

haha!! It's so easy to keep adding things on. I keep saying, well, we're already going to be there anyway!

How many days are you at now?

Awe talking Mickey sounds so cute. I hadn't read anything about what he says before. I love the stuff you read. He's now on our must list. Plus I think a talking Mickey would go over well with my dd. Like maybe he'd be less scary.

Going to 2 parades sounds like a good idea. Especially if there's not a replacement for MSEP. I think we'll have to go to the first one because my kids might not last till the 2nd.

It seems weird that they only added the Star Wars desert part for a few dates. There's no chance they're getting rid of those fireworks right? Eeek. Maybe they just aren't sure how the dessert parties will go?

10 days now. 2 for Disney Springs, 1 at Universal Studios- rest at Disney.

As much as I was ahh OK With MSEP- Sad to see it go, glad we seen it in April.

Also- We plan on doing Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom during the party. There is a MVMCP 2016 edition card you can get only during the party.
