Official December 2010 Car Rental Thread

I only need a rental car for 12/24-12/25...and the rates are OUTRAGEOUS!!! I can't find anything better than an economy or compact for less than $130! For ONE DAY???? Any suggestions? Should I wait and hope the rates come down? I've never rented for 1 day, but this seems excessive.

Booked a convertible with Enterprise through carrentalsavers (thanks to the person who posted the deal on the other thread) for $175 for 9 days (Dec 11-Dec 19), all fees included.

Can you tell me how you did that? I'm going through all the links provided, for similar dates to yours, and can't find anything like that

Thanks to everyone for posting all these discounts, but there is so much to go through- and I can't find any decent prices using them

anyone found anything good recently? We are looking for a car for Nov 30 - Dec 13th. We currently have a car booked for Nov 30 -Dec 3 from DTD, but think we would like to have the car for the full trip just incase. Thanks!!!

Anyone have any luck with Priceline name you price?:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share the rate I finally got. There are REALLY good rates on Dollar/Thrifty for Christmas. Depending on your exact dates you can get a compact car out of MCO for $113 per week, an intermediate for $129 per week and the Lock N Go for $135.

I booked a compact car for 11 days for just $268 including taxes!

Wow. What codes????????

I reserved a midsize through Priceline for $11 per day December 9-18th. I think this is a decent deal. Now I just need to stop looking at car prices!

Stephd - What rental company did you end up with. I've used Priceline for car rental before (not at MCO though) and have been pleased.

We ended up with Hertz. I'm just relieved that it is in-terminal. I think some have complained that Hertz midsize is a bit small, but it should be ok for DH, DS7, DS3 and me. We can upgrade to full-size for an additional $3 a day, but I think we are going to keep our midsize.

Just booked with Alamo...Dec 11-17 for $115 total! This was for a compact. Went through the Entertainment book site, so if you have a membership it might be worth looking into! Used the $30 off coupon with the Entertainment discount.

We ended up with Hertz, full-size car for $162 (or $167) for 11/30 - 12/7. This was thru priceline.

I just went to Priceline and bid on a minivan for $45 a day from Orlando Airport. The winning bid was with National. There will be 6 of us so I needed a van.

My dates are - pickup Dec 25 and return on 1 Jan. Here is the breakdown.

Thats a really good price on the van through priceline. We are going to be there the same dates and I was considering checking out priceline. Have you ever used it before? I am not that familar with it. Have you had any problems with pick ups in the past?
Thanks!

I just changed my Alamo reservation - originally booked a Compact for 3 days picking up/dropping off the car at the Dolphin at WDW (12/2 - 12/5) that I booked using my Costco coupons for $109.

I was kind of dreading DME to and from MCO so, I just checked out an Entertainment coupon code that I found for $30 off a 5+day rental. In addition to the $30 coupon, it also gave me an additional 10% off! Now, we have the car for our entire trip for $118 (including fees/taxes)! :thumbsup2

We plan on going to US/IOA for a day and also plan on resort hopping to look at the Christmas decorations - it will be nice to have the car in case the buses are not to our liking too!

Hope this helps someone!

The funny thing is it varies from one rental to another as far as costs are concerned. I have an Alamo rental from Dec 1st thru 11th at the CCC for $409 for a standard SUV. Basically it is 34.75/day for 10 days. The discount I got was pay for 6 days and get 7th free.

$315 is a pretty good price for that time of year :). Was that your first bid or did you work up to it? Hotwire has a minivan for $60 so I would have started at $35 per day.

Here is a tutorial I put together on bidding on Priceline earlier this year:

Brit Jude are you sure that is the final price from priceline? I have been finding van prices around $400-500 but then they put all the fees and taxes and you are right it comes out well over $1000 for 10 days. I just was wondering if there were any other hidden fees from priceline and did you have to pay for it already on your cc?

I'm not Jude, but that looks exactly like a cut and paste from Priceline.

Wdwstar, $50-$60 of additional taxes fees per day is a LOT. Are you including extra drivers or insurance? Also, is it $400 per week or $400 for the whole 10 days? The extra days on a 10-day rental can be a killer.

Yes it was a cut and paste from Priceline the total with charges and fees is $429.69. There are not any extra charges or at least there shouldn't be. Now they will probably try to sell me extra insurance when I get to the counter.

I actually started my bid at $45 this time. When I did a normal search on Priceline yesterday the lowest quote was $1100. I had been on there a few weeks ago just trying it out, I think I put $35 and they rejected my bid and suggested $47 at the time. So I started with $45 this time. I though it would be rejected and I would have to go up each day. I guess knowing what I know now I could have gone lower but I am very happy with the deal I have. Here is more cut and paste from my confirmation e-mail. I xxxx'ed out my name, confirmation number and extra personal stuff.

Thank you for booking your rental car with priceline.

Yeah ... they try to trick you into paying more. It's still a good price for that time of year and I like National :).
