Official December 2008

Well we did a trial run for WDW yesterday...took the family to Canada's Wonderland (our version of Six Flags)

DS 8 (the timid one) was tall enough for everything at 54" and tried all but the mammoth coaster...much to my shock. I guess EE & ToT will be no problem for him.

DD 6 (my Daredevil) was the opposite, wasn't interested in the rides...all she care about was buying a stuffed animal. (Considering all the Webkins in the house, its the last thing she needed :rotfl: )

We arrived at 10:30 and by 1ish I was done (mind you it was well into the 80s which it won't be in Dec) I'm definitely glad I planned breaks every day of our Disney vacation...obviously commando style is not for me. I definitely could not do one long day let alone 8 in a row!! Must be getting old!!

Count me in! December 13-17, POR. Never been in December, so we are trying a short trip to see how we like it. :cool1:

I will be done teaching for the semester, but am taking the kids out of school for a few days.

We really want to enjoy the holiday decorations without the crowds.

DH and I will be at POR Dec 11-16. My youngest is off to college this fall so it will be just the two of us. Also our first time in Dec. We are excited.

133 days, 17 hours, 40 minutes to go!!

Candlelight Processional:
December 2nd - 8pm performance - Narrator: TBD (hopefully someone good) & dining @ Le Cellier

December 4th - 6:45pm performance - Narrator: Brian Stokes Mitchell & dining at the Rose & Crown.

Well, I am quite disappointed, I had booked WL from Dec 13-21 and now I have to move to POFQ or POR, because DH's hours have been cut back, at least I don't have to cancel completely.

I am waiting to re-book when the AAA aget that has my ressie switches it to the new AAA rep, then I hope I can get POFQ or POR, depends on how long and ugly she wants to be :confused3

I don't need all this drama:sad2:

Port Orleans French Quarter is my FAVORITE moderate resort at WDW!! I love the fact that it's small & compact, so it's easy to get everywhere here!! It's so quaint and peaceful there. Looked at staying at the WL (love this resort), but it was double the cost than me staying at POFQ, so I'm staying at POFQ. Have stayed at POR & CBR before and really did not care for either. Way too spread out for my taste.

Hopefully, I will find out on Monday if I got POFQ. My mom has to have special accommodations, so we will have to take POR if POFQ doesn't have the special room avail, but I think they will at this point. I am sure I would be more out of luck in another month, since I believe the discount codes will come out close to the end of August.

Thank you for the info, I am looking for all I can get. This will be our first time in a Moderate.

I hate that we can't stay at WL, but it just isn't doable.

Mom and I are staying at POR for a couple of days in August, so that will give us a chance to check things out. POFQ wasn't avail for the Aug dates.

Congrats on your "baby" heading off to college! We are so psyched to see the decorations in December. We know it won't be hot like in March, but it will be a heck of a lot warmer than Bangor.

I am sorry to hear that you are having to tone down your vacation a bit, but even with this, I seem to remember you were originally planning to stay at the All Stars, so you are still getting more than your original plan called for.

If it helps, we were planning a September trip for our 9th Anniversary & the F&W Fest that we had to completely cancel. We lost all but $11.50 of our airfare due to AirTran's fees. But, in our house the economic issue is related to me having to get my gallbladder removed a week from tomorrow.

Yes, I am sad about it, but at least I know that we get to go in December still, even if it is only at ASMo, when we could be staying Deluxe if it wasn't for the fact that my MIL is joining us and can't afford to pay to stay Deluxe and we can't afford to pay for her room either. I would rather be able to stay longer at the value resort with my MIL in her own room rather than to stay in a Deluxe without her since her days are numbered and she & Corey deserve some great memories together.

Add us to the list. Dec. 6 - 13 with MVMCP on Dec. 9th along with lots of others.

I just spent the last 2 hours reading all the posts on this thread. I thought this was supposed to be the light time of year to visit. I am beginning to think wrong. Couldn't be worse than July of 2005. We still call it the Sweatiest Place on Earth with lots of people. Can't wait to see the Christmas decos. This is our first time at Christmas and we plan to see it all.

I truly doubt there is any uncrowded time to visit WDW, but according to the folks at the Unofficial Guide and Tour Guide Mike, the first half of December boasts some of the lowest crowds of the year.

Thanks. He will be going up your way to UMO.
I went in late Jan early Feb once and I wore jeans and a sweatshirt one day I think. I really liked not being all sweaty!! I hope for high 60s to low 70s for our Dec trip. Perfect for capris/shorts and tank tops or tees.
We will be going to MVMCP on the 14th.

I got it, I got it. We got POFQ standard view, I am really excited. I am still a little down about WL, but we didn't have to completely cancel.

Well, this is even a little more toned down than ASMo, because we had a Family Suite there, but this will be just fine. I am very grateful that we are still getting to go. Truthfully, I am looking forward to it, I have never stayed in a Moderate before and mom had me book 2 extra breakfasts to make up for it.

I am so sorry to hear that you had to canel your Sept trip and having your Gallbladder out too, hope you have a quick and painless recovery.

Mom is taking me to POR over Labor Day weekend on an unexpected trip, so I do understand about time with our mothers. I didn't get along with mine most of the time/most of my life, since my grandmother was the one I saw as in charge. Since her death 7 years ago, mom and I have grown closer and she lives with us, but she needed a few days away and she invited me.

Suzanne:

Glad to hear you got into POFQ...I've heard a lot of good reports from people that have stayed there.

Yea!!! Add us to the December list. We were just there in June and the DTD Hilton ran a special for 3 nights for $99. We couldn't pass that up.

So yesterday I called and booked Dec. 28-31. I think I'm gonna call back and add the 31st too. We'll then move to Universal for 2 nights at the Royal Pacific.
It'll be myself, Dh, and Ds(7). Looks like we're driving unless air prices fall somewhat between now and then!

We just found out that Midwest Airlines basically booted us off our flight. Our tickets were purchased in February, and we received an e-mail that we needed to call. Mom spent 5 hours on hold yesterday starting at 9 pm, and got up at 5 this morning to finally get through at 8. They won't tell us why, the flight wasn't cancelled, we just "weren't chosen" to be on the flight. Luckily, we were able to rebook with United and are now going down Christmas Eve and leaving New Year's Day. Talk about a day of headache - we had to redo a bunch of our trip details today. But, the important thing is it's all taken care of, and we are still going! :headache: :worship:

I am really excited and will check it out a little when mom and I go down next month and stay at POR.

Megan I am glad you were able to work things out.:goodvibes Lots of people getting their flights canceled or moved around (transportation board). So far my United flights in Dec have only had one change. I HAVE to stay at Disney 1 1/2 hours longer on our last day. Darn. ;)
What was your original dates that you were gonna be there? Just wondering how close to those you were able to get.

I cannot believe how many Disers are going to Disney in December!!!:cool2: We should not have a hard time spotting each other with the Lime Green Mickey heads WE WILL ALL have with us.
DH and I are super super excited about going in Dec and meeting some of you all will make it more fun.:)

Thanks, so am I! I almost had a heart attack when Mom called to tell me that one. :scared1: We were originally leaving Christmas Day and coming back the 2nd of January, so it's just 1 day earlier. That extra hour and a half at Disney is going to kill you isn't it?
