Official Dancing With the Stars: Season 18

I agree that Amy is amazing, her dance last night was very good, I would have given it a 9 until she had a major mistake, then it would have been an 8, the judges even commented on it but two of them still gave her a 10, that is not fair judging. Carrie Ann decided she had to take a point off for the actual lift, it was a lift not just her toe coming off the floor.

I thought last night was her best dance but her waltz last week was not, and she still got high scores. All those who think that the people with "dance" experience have a leg up, do you realize they get judged differently too? They expect them to actually be perfect to get the 10, James last week got 10s & he wasn't perfect. Now Maks & Meryl were perfect last night so they earned their 10's.

It just seems to be that no matter who Derek dances with he gets high scores. I didn't think his partner last season deserved some of the scores she got but she managed to win. I just hope that doesn't happen this year.

I don't get the judging, either. A 10 means perfect, no? Perfect means no mistakes, right? So how can someone make a mistake (Amy this week, Charlie dropping the cane last week) and still get a 10?

The fourth judge is annoying, especially when it is some obnoxious "singer" who admits he knows nothing about the dances or technique. I thought that was why we had Carrie Ann - to know little-to-nothing about the dances but to act all emotional and judge based on feelings ;).

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Carrie Ann is soooooooo annoying.

But then she does own 4 cats…. soooo…..:rolleyes1

In recent years, I think the judging has become more and more infuriatingly inconsistent but this season has been the absolute worst. I am still shaking my head over last week when Nene got the same scores as Meryl, Charlie got a 10 for a routine where he dropped a prop and lost 2 counts, poor Candace got woefully underscored and the self proclaimed "lift police" pointed out lifts in Amy's dance and then refused to take a off a point for them. It was like bizarro DWTS.

Team Charlie:
Charlie/Sharna
James/Peta
Nene/Tony

Let me start by saying that judging is subjective and I think the judges have their favorites. Carrie Ann is starting to grate on my last nerve with her exuberance. One Bruno is enough.

Think of the dancing in the same vein as diving, gymnastics, skating in the Olympics. The athletes who put in the more difficult moves have a higher factor when judging. A diver performing a dive that is 3.2 difficulty is likely to score higher than one with a 2.8 even if it is not perfect.

As for Charlie's dropping the cane, I think it was Len that commented on the difficulty, number of steps and crazy speed of Charlie's dance that negated the dropping of the cane.

Derek is known for the complexity of his choreography. I think they commented last night about the number of kicks and flicks in the routine. Even though not perfect, it was still a difficult routine when compared to others.

I think Candace was robbed last week and did better this week, though I expect she will be one of the next to go. I actually like her and I am not anti religion but her whole conservative religion thing is wearing on me. I get it, her costumes are demure (though really nice and appropriate). But enough of the whole growth and jumping out of my comfort zone stuff. I think her personality is pretty bland.

I think Meryl also comes across as nice and somewhat conservative but her dialogue is totally different. I hope this is the season for a win for Maks. I like him and think he is doing his best not to be antagonistic toward the judges. I do like that he will speak up to protect his partner when he thinks something is unjust as he did in previous seasons.

Now if they will just get rid of Nene.

I'm calling it now that Team Meryl will win. Derek and Mark have been dancing together since they were so young that it's just second nature to them. The same goes for Maks and Val. And, while it is rumored that there is no love lost between Derek and Maks, Val and Mark are quite close. Add that to the fact that Derek has never lost a team dance and it is a recipe for a win. I'm not saying that Sharna, Peta, and Tony aren't all great, but they just won't have the chemistry that the other 4 will have.

I am predicting here & now that the judges and producers really, really, really want Amy to win. She will be the first disabled and ParaOlympic athlete to win the Mirror Ball trophy, even over the stars with two "normal" working legs & feet.

Do you realize who this will help the ratings of the show and draw in physically disabled viewers as well as those who follow the ParaOlympics? They will get a whole new fan base. The show can a new inspiration to disabled people everywhere. What's the downside for ABC pushing for and influencing that outcome? :confused3

1. Overlook any flaws & mistakes in her performance.
2. Tell the audience that the judges aren't giving her any unfair advantages when they clearly are.
3. Inflate her scores over the others, even when she makes mistakes the same mistakes they do.

Unless her prosthetic leg comes off and goes flying into the audience and hits someone, how can she LOSE? :confused3

I was away on a cruise last week and just caught up with last week. I am very shocked that Cody went home! My DD is a huge fan and she tried to vote and we got a fast busy signal. Darn! I will really miss him.

I'll come back to the thread in s couple of days after I get a chance to watch yesterday's show.

Now that Cody is gone all of my votes are going to M-M-Maks for his first mirror ball.

Ok so reading all this hate towards Redfoo...I don't understand. He is Berry Gordy's son. He might not have any dance experience but he does know something about entertainment! I'm not really enjoying the 4th judge every week either but to call him stupid and to say that he doesn't know anything is untrue. I enjoyed watching this week. Much better than Donny plugging himself every second!

I honestly didn't mind him nearly as much as I expected to. I just hate the 4th judge concept. It is just too much. But of the guest judges they've had this season, he and Robin Roberts have been my favorites. He was a little nutty but not obnoxious and I think he knew exactly what role he was expected to play. Like you, I'd take him over Donny "Look at me! I won this show once!" Osmond and Julianne "What rude thing can I say to make people talk about me?" Hough. anyday.

Next week is Ricky Martin who will at least be pleasant to look at if nothing else. :)

I don't think he was worse than any of the others, I just don't like guest judges. I don't think they add anything of substance to the show. I really have a lot of respect for Robin Roberts and enjoy listening to her because she so positive and just exudes gratitude, but didn't think she added anything as a judge.

...I didn't care for either of them either....:sad2:

James Definitely had the hip action going.

I liked the shirtless look. But the overalls flipped down over his pants made him look like he was wearing a diaper.

Holy Tamales.....Peta just trumped Edyta in of the skimpy outfit Hall of Fame

Maybe I'm having an off night but I didn't like either of the first two dances.

Since Carrie Ann said she was taking off a point for the "lift" and she still gave them a 9, does that mean she thought the dance was perfect? I wonder if she reads these boards since she said she didn't want anyone to say Amy wasn't judged fairly since she could win it all. I just don't think that Amy is the best dancer, also couldn't she wear shoes? :confused3
