Official Dancing With the Stars, season 16 thread

I enjoyed Derek and Kellie's routine but it didn't seem very jazzy to me. I know they said it was new jazz so maybe I just don't know what that looks like.

I don't know what the judges were doing last night. Wynonna got three 6s for the slowest Quickstep in history? I thought DL improved a ton and yet he still got lower scores than Wynonna and Lisa who is just terrible.

My favorite dance was Zendaya and Val even though I hate it when I like the ringer! I gave all my votes to Dorothy though because I would like her to get another chance to dance. I really love the presence she has on the show and when she is able to dance without an injury, I think she will be lovely to watch.

I think the bottom three will be Lisa, DL and Victor and I predict Victor goes home. Even though DL's scores are so much lower than the other two, I think he probably has more people voting for him than Victor does. Plus, I think it will be one of the newer professional dancers who goes home first.

Something had bothered me about Victor and his partner last week and last night and when one of the judges said their dance looked sloppy, I realized what it was. I think she is a great dancer but has not quite figured out how to look great herself when dancing with a non-great partner so the whole dance ends up looking sloppy, not just him. I think the longer standing pros are better at covering up some of their partners' sloppiness and lack of finesse.

I love Kellie Pickler and think she is an amazing dancer and will probably win the season.

But, does anyone else think Derek must have something in his contract that allows him to have the celebrity with the best chance and most talent? LOL

How does he always get someone who can dance so well?
Refresh my memory if I am wrong and he has had any partners who had no dance skill.

Wynonna needs to go home, that was walking not dancing.

Not denying that Kellie has some serious talent, but I believe Derek is the best pro on the show right now. In fact, the only one who has ever been on the show who might have been a better pro was his sister. Now, not saying that some of his partners didn't have talent, but I fully believe that he is masterful at bringing out the absolute best in his partners. He was able to choreograph around Jennifer Grey's neck injury. He was able to get Rikki Lake to move like she was much younger than she was. Shannon Elizabeth had no real talent for dance and he really helped her.


I was told that the pros and stars are matched up on height, age, and personality, so I'm sure that plays a big part in why he gets the talent that he does. That said, I'm sure that everyone would have assumed that Zendeya and Ali would have been much higher on the ringer list than Kellie Pickler. I'm assuming that the producers didn't know what kind of a dancer any of these stars were (aside from Zendaya, of course) prior to matching them up.

ETA: I remember a few seasons back when they were all working on a group dance. Maks was partnered with that soccer player and she was really struggling. Maks was getting really angry with her and ended up storming out. Derek then worked with her and she got it perfectly. Now, I'm not trying to knock Maks (Gogh God blessed him in the looks department and I'd like to have him back), but just pointing out other evidence that I feel supports my theory that Derek is just dang good at what he does.

Now I know that there are many ways to vote so Dial Idol isn't all that valid anymore but they have Wy and Tony in 1st place!!!! Zendaya and Kellie are 2 and 3 but 1st place? really?

I wonder if that has something to do with her demographic/fan base. Zandaya and Kellie are much younger and I bet their fans are much more likely to use text or social media to vote. Wy's fans are older (in general) and would therefore be more like to go "old school" and use an actual phone.

OTOH, Victor and DL are at the bottom so they may be fairly close to the correct results, if not the actual votes.

They are saying on ET, That Vegas odd makes are saying that Lisa is going tonight, and Kelli is predicted to win.

I remember that I voted for Gladys Knight for segveral weeks. As long as there were other people who could go first or instead of her, I wanted her t have a respectable showing. I think she made it through 6 week before it was definitely time for her to go.

Andy Dick, D.L. and Lisa can go instead of Wynonna. They are all interchangeably bad.

And probably Wynonna's mother & sister's fan bases are voting for her too.

Yes, I also voted for Gladys, but like Kirstie, Gladys could MOVE.

Something with her ankle (which might be why she wore flat shoes to dance in last night). They also showed her putting ice on her lower back near her tailbone.
