Our household really enjoys seeing Bristol dance, and we were afraid she'd be booted this week. Shucks, we figured she'd be booted the 1st week! (We thought the same the other season she was on this show, though, and we were pleasantly surprised that she lasted as long as she did.)
Since Bristol's not among the better dancers, we figure the only way we'll be able to continue getting to see her is to give her all our votes (and we haven't even always bothered to vote), and so we did and do (the times when we've voted). It is our understanding that the show is not based solely on dance ability/performance merit, but also on "popularity," and thus we vote for who we most want to watch dance -- and that's Bristol & Mark!
We don't like watching Bristol because we think it's like watching a "train wreck" or anything like that. Good grief. Perhaps some folks do actually think of Bristol that way, I dunno, but definitely not us!
I can only speak for myself, but perhaps I simply identify with her and her life more than the other "stars." I think the only other "star" on the show I even knew of was Kirstie Alley, and only because I've seen her in a movie or two many years ago. That's not much reason for me to care about watching Kirstie dance anymore than anyone else. (Oh, wait -- I take that back. I do recall having a very minor awareness of the Apollo guy some years ago. I think he was - is? - an Olympic ice skater of some sort.)
The only time I've ever watched this show was when Bristol was on in a previous season. I knew of her for the same reason(s) "everyone" did, but I don't think we're allowed to speak of religion and politics and abortion on this board anymore. I found I liked watching the dancing/dancers that season, but soon discovered I didn't really care for the show overall. I didn't watch any subsequent seasons, but when I heard Bristol was coming back, I decided to "tune in" again because I found her appealing the previous go around, and thought it would be interesting to see how she'd do this time with a little more dancing/performance experience and a few more years of life under her belt.
I have no illusions of Bristol having any chance of winning, but I do hope she'll remain in the game for a few more dances. If not, oh-well. My interest will cease, but no doubt others' interest will increase: "One man's trash is another man's treasure." This one happens to think Bristol's a treasure!
