Official Dancing with the Stars - All Stars

I hope they keep the .5 paddles for future seasons, too. In fact, I think they should use .25 paddles. Towards the end, it would make the total scoring more interesting instead of everyone ending up w/ the same totals.

I like the .5 paddles and think they were a necessary idea for the All Star Season. With so many of the contestants being so high caliber, they needed a broader range of scores to offer. I hope they keep them as well.

I honestly think they were being generous giving her 6's. The powers that be want her there for ratings, hence they won't go below 6. All of the dancers who received 7's and 7.5's didn't deserve to be separated by a few points from her. She is not even close to the same caliber as the rest.

Couldn't have said it better. :thumbsup2

I have a question for those that have made predictions regarding how many more weeks Bristol will last- do you think it is because she has that big of a fan base and it will take several other contestant's fan bases to "team" up to outnumber her or do you feel that the producers are the ones calling the shots and the voting really doesn't matter?

I think that Bristol won't go until there are fewer dancers to dilute the rest of the non-Bristol vote. She also might go if the Dance Duel starts up again. Last season it was from week 5 - 7. I think the half point paddles are included because the rest of the dancers (Kirstie excluded) are so darn good there is not enough of a difference between the dancers when using whole numbers.

I think the "Results" are a combination of all three mentioned. Right now, there are 12 contestants. As Robin said, with people voting in so many diverse directions, the votes are too diluted.

Then you have one contestant whose mom (may have) brought a considerable faction of voters, not usually voting/viewing the show, and that changes the numbers.

Third and finally, I think the producers, while generally letting the show run unimpeded, ALWAYS retain the right to override, overrule and make the final decision for the best interest of the show. I can't imagine ANY corporation, company, entity of a multi-million dollar business who doesn't/wouldn't maintain the right of final decision & control. You actually think the producers will & ABC will knowingly LET something topple the show, (a business,) if they can stop that from happening?

Donald Trump & the producer, Mark Burnett does it on The (Celebrity) Apprentice, shows. It even states that at the end of the shows. (I don't know about Burnett's other shows as I don't watch them.) Top Chef, says the same thing, that final decisions are made by the judges AND the producers. Judges overseeing court cases, can override and set aside the verdicts of jurys if they feel it is in the best interest of the defendant/case. Heck, even the presidential vote is ultimately decided by electoral college, NOT popular vote. The founding fathers did not want to leave it up to the general public. (Just using it as an example, not meaning to set us on a political discussion.)

I have a strong suspicion that on The Bachelor, the year that Jason first picked Melissa, then dumped her for Molly, the producers *could* have persuaded him into choosing Melissa, telling him he can later say he made a mistake and pick Molly and all will be well in the end. Remember, it was, "A Bachelor first, in the history of the show." How wonderful for ratings & controversy for the show. :thumbsup2 What no one counted on what the incredible backlash that it actually caused instead.

The irony is, (IF it really went down that way,) the show would have actually has it's SECOND marriage from the show, instead of the short-term ratings it got. I have rarely heard the show or Chris promote, after Jason married Molly, how there was a second wedding after all. That, while he chose the wrong one initially, he DID end up meeting his true love on the show, after all. If it was all a harmless mistake, you'd think the show would be advertising the heck out of a SECOND marriage happening because of the show. Instead, it's mostly swept under the rug like some b****** child, no one wants to acknowledge. I think the producers made that choice and Jason, has naturally been furious as HE was the one who received all the back-lash & hatred, and because of non-disclosure agreements, will never be able to really clarify what happened.

I also think on Emily's season, she was going to let one guy go, but he interrupted her final rose decision. When she came back and ended up letting him stay, she was NOT happy with either him or the decision. It showed. I *think* from the time she talked to the guy, to walking back into the room, the producers <cough> had a talk with her, telling her it would be good for the show & ratings to keep him on. If she was pretty sure she wouldn't be picking the other guy she would have picked for instead, then what is the harm? DO WHAT'S BEST FOR THE SHOW.

I think the producers generally let DWTS run it's course, if no interference is needed. However, they WILL step up to do what is best for the ratings & advertizing of the show.

Exactly what I said above. :thumbsup2 Bristol's leaving would be short term talked about (one week,) if she left on Tues. She stays around another several weeks, she gets talked about, Tweeted, FBed, talked about on news/tabloid/entertainment shows for several weeks. ALL of which is in the "best interest of the SHOW."

I don't watch Top Chef but The Apprentice does not have a viewer voting aspect so I am not sure what your point is regarding the producers having a say in how the show plays out. Trump fires people each and every show so of course he can manipulate it for ratings but DWTS is supposed to have a 50% weight associated with the viewers having some say in how the show plays out.

YOU asked:

Answer: YES, I do feel the producers call the shots. On any and EVERY type of show, viewers or not. Example: Even the Trump doesn't get to make the decisions by himself, even though it appears he makes all the decisions.

Suffice it to say & I repeat:

I think the producers, while generally letting the show run unimpeded, ALWAYS retain the right to override, overrule and make the final decision for the best interest of the show. I can't imagine ANY corporation, company, entity of a multi-million dollar business who doesn't/wouldn't maintain the right of final decision & control. That includes changing rules, adding in dance-offs, to ordering the judges (called scripted writing) to vote a certain way to ensure the producers decisions magically pixiedust: end up with the results they want. Meaning: they, not the viewers, call the shots.

I think that this just speaks to the quality of the judging. I have been hoping for years that the show replace Carrie Ann. She is no ballroom expert and always plays favorites.:crazy2:

Not a fan of Carrie Anne. Len clearly knows what he is talking about. He will name the step that he didn't like or will talk about how they broke the rule of the dance when they broke hold or threw in steps from a different dance. Bruno, while not as informed on ballroom as Len, still knows much more than Carrie Anne. For the most part, he knows what he should and should not be seeing and he is very good about knowing if people get off on their steps. He also knows how to give constructive criticism that the star can take into the following week and work on.

Carrie Anne, on the other hand, is the lift police. That is about all she is good for. That, and telling people, "I don't know; your hands looked funny." Helpful, that. Time for her to go.

Double elimination nite + Len's Challenge to show him something different tonight! popcorn::

Bristol is not sitting next to Mark. This should be good. ;)

GILLES!!!!

My goodness, that man is sexy! :faint:
He was made to do these Latin dances.

Peta's costume needs to be retired. We've seen too many variations of that black number with the half back skirt only. And in THIS song over & over.

Good scores for Gilles & Peta in spite of falling out of step a few times. All 8.5s. :thumbsup2

Backtracking, that was the first dance I liked with Anna. It's probably because Drew made sure he dance equally as much as Anna ans she couldn't pull focus. :p

Melissa seemed a bit stiff, especially in her back.

I've only seen the first 4, but they are all doing a great job so far...somebody good is going home tomorrow if it keeps going like this.

Kelly & Val's paso doble, one of the best dances of the night. :thumbsup2

Loved Kelly and Val. No idea who I'm voting for tonight!

Noticed that now Bristol is stitting next to Mark, he kissed her on the cheek. Made-up drama? :confused3

I decided to go ahead and watch tonight. :upsidedow My husband just said Maks looks like a bad Bruce Jenner impersonator. :scared:
