OFFICIAL D23 Membership available for all Disney fans--Will you join too? UPDATE

I recieved a D23 membership for Christmas after months of dropping hints! LOL I guess that makes me a Charter Member as well.

We're looking at going to the expo in 2011, but I'm unsure if I need to buy my husband a membership as well so he can attend with me. If you're a member, are you allowed to bring a guest or does everyone in attendance need to be a D23 member?

You're allowed to bring a guest, your husband doesnt need his own membership.

You know I joined last year and now my renewal time is here. I am not sure if I am going to renew or not.

I like the magazines but honestly that is all I got out of the membership. There really arent great discounts. The expo is on the opposite side of the country for me so going is not an option, especially where I am in WDW for my anniversary every Sept.

So I am wondering what really is the point of renewing it :confused3

I am actually thinking of getting an annual pass because we are goign in Sept and then as a family Nov 28th so it almost makes sense to me to put the money from the D23 toward that instead.

Anyone got any ideas to talk me out of it lol I dont want to jump and cancel without considering all my options so hearing other's thoughts can help me make my decision. ;);)

Right back at ya - all I seem to have gotten out of this is the magazine. I was hoping for the second D23 EXPO to be in Florida and to be in 2010, not 2011. So I am extremely disappointed.

As far as special D23 merchandise I only bought two pins and they were quite pricey. I like some of my park mdse much better. Hey I think I just acknowledged to myself that I won't be renewing.

Don't know if that influences your decision, but yes - you could spend that money on special memories in your trips
.

I read somewhere on the D23 web site that during the next D23 Expo in 2011, which will be in August, CHARTER D23 members will have free access to a D23 lounge. You have to stay current in your membership though. If you were a charter year member, let your membership lapse and then renew in 2011, you are no longer a D23 charter member.

I thought it was pretty much common knowledge that Disney had reserved the California location for 4 years for potential D23 Expo events. It's disapointing that they won't have an Expo in 2010, but they are doing the 2 day Disneyland event this fall. So they are doing something...just not on the scale of the Expo.

Granted, I wish there were more events near WDW...but I think that may come in time. The club has only existed for 1 year. Clubs like this evolve.

I figure that the $75 more than covers the cost of the magazines and the 1 year Charter member anniversary pins they are sending out. Not to mention the calendar and (hopefully) the little Disney Archive gifts they included with every magazine last year.

I will be renewing. My membership is up in June, but I want to renew earlier than that so I can get the next issue (which is due out in early May I think). When is the best time to renew then? Should I renew sometime in April? Or should I wait until May? I just don't want to get a second copy of the spring issue of the magazine. Suggestions?

Thanks.

Eric

EAWildman -

Have you gotten any free anniversary pin? I have not.

Anyone else gotten this? - please chime in if you have.

I have seen on other web forums that D23 CHARTER members who renew receive a 1 year Charter pin featuring Tinker Bell.

Apparently, before it's time for you to renew, you will get a postcard reminding you to renew and telling you about the 1 year charter year member pin. It sounds like you have to renew by a certain time before your membership expires to get the 1 year pin.

My membership is up in June. I have not gotten any renewal cards yet.

I think I read about all this on the D23 Facebook page.

Eric

I never got a reminder notice. I read that you needed to renew your membership 30 days before it expired in order to keep your Charter membership.

I just got the new D23 fanfare and it has a reminder to renew before March 31st to keep charter member status!

Any body see the price tag on the D23 Flower and Fireworks event in May? $195... any thoughts about this?

That's the same as Magic & Merriment! and it included 2 full days at the parks, plus tickets. Make sme wonder what the price tag will be for this years Magic & Merriment.

The above does not include a ticket to the parks and it is only 1 day in the parks, the first day is night activities at Grand Floridian.

MyMuse, thats exactly what i was thinking, Magic & Merriment had 2 park tickets, 2 ticket to Disney Quest, and a 1 ticket to MVMCP, and also a tour of the castle suite. Looks I won't be participating in the May D23 Event, just two expensive for 2 meals (dinner and breakfast), and dessert.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

I was briefly toying with the idea of attending, but I'll pass. I'd much rather attend Sip & Stroll and/or Magic & Merriment again. Maybe. sigh.

I'm very happy now that I attended the first M&M; it will not be that way again! I was...underwhelmed with the WDW anniversary party.

Re: the Expo. Doesn't everyone need to buy a ticket, even if they're a D23 Member? I thought Members just got a discount.

I had asked before but don't think there was a reply. I had signed up on the D23 web sight but don't know If I am supposed to be getting email updates. I am looking for updates on when more information on the Christmas D23 event will be released like ticket sale dates, etc. Is there an email that they send out or are you just supposed to go to the web site and check things out. About what time last year was the event details released about the D23 Christmas event and when were the tickets put on sale?
Thanks for all your help.

D23 put its tickets up for sale just a few weeks before the event. I want to say it was mid-Oct last year for Magic & Merriment.

For the Anniversary party, it was 4 weeks before. As far as I know, there are no on-sale dates for the May event at WDW.

Got a renewal e-mail from D23. It stated that my membership was good through the end of June, but that if I renewed before the end of April, I would receive a D23 Charter Member 1 Year Pin with Tinkerbell.

So, I renewed now, since I was planning on renewing anyway. By renewing now, I get the 1 year pin and should get my summer D23 magazine on schedule.

I am wondering which cover I will get on the summer D23 magazine. Woody, Buzz or Jessie?

Which do you want?

Eric

I'm hoping for Jessie on my cover since my DD loves her. Personally, I wish there was a cover with Bullseye on it.

Im so upset....I meant to renew in time for the pin but thought I had until 30 days before my renewal date (June). Now I see that I had to do it before 4/30 :(

I received my summer issue of D23 today. I was hoping for Buzz but received Woody. This issue did not include a "surpirse" like the 2009 issues - no reproductions from the disney archives.
