That stinks you have to pay the adult rate for a 10 year old. My DD will turn 9 while we are there this August, that's why DH wants to go this year instead of next, so we can still pay the child rate!

As long as she's still 9 when you start your vacation you could go next year too and pay child's rate.

We went for DS's 3rd birthday and didn't have to purchase him a park ticket because they go by the age at the start of the trip.

Ok, now I normally don't like to sound like a newbie in anything I do, but I gotta let my true colors shine here. What exactly is this free dining thing I'm reading everywhere about, and where do I sign up?! We're heading to the world for the last week of August, and have already purchased the DDP. Now I'm assuming that the DDP is completely different from this free dining thing, but what the differences are is my main question. How often do they do it, and why for that matter? Like I said, I'm not normally this out of things, I like to think I'm pretty Disney savvy, but this has thrown me for a loop. Any help is greatly appreciated!

This Free Dining is the DDP except they credit your account for the cost of it. So you are getting the same 1 CS, 1 TS, 1 snack for each night of your stay per person for free.....however, you must be checking in sometime in the time frame in which they offer it. It has not yet been announced for this year. It was in the past two years during the Aug. Sept times. ( I do not know the exact dates) We are all waiting to see if it is offered.

You also have to pay rack rate for the room and include a ticket purchase. In previous years all you needed was a one-day base ticket to qualify. Don't know if that will change or not -- hopefully we'll find out for sure really soon!

Well now that my hopes have been all but dashed about free dining I certainly hope that they offer some type of room discount. In 2006 they offered $45.00 off of the moderates on July 13 for 08/19 to 09/30. Watch, since we check in 08/15 I will miss out on that one too. This pretty much sucks!

Thank goodness I got a great deal on a BCV rental for the second half of our trip.

Hoping for free dining too in August. My best friend is taking her DD13, DD9 and 2 friends for DD13. I hope to be coming with my DD8 and DS1. I joked to my DD that I was leaving DS home with his Daddy and Pawpaw and she so got so excited. She loves her brother but said that we would be able to ride anything together if we leave him. I know it would make the trip easier, but I'm not ready to leave him yet.

I have a couple of questions about the free dining. First, when it becomes available what is the best way to book it? Do I call up Dis reservations? I would think that would be the quickest way.

Can someone get a AAA discount with the free dining? I think I have read on the free dining thread that some have used it but others said they were only able to get the free dining and were not able to use the AAA discount.

Do I need to book ASAP because the free dining rooms will sell out quickly? I haven't read of anyone not able to get free dining in past years. Maybe they couldn't get the resort they wanted but it seems like many were able to get the free dining. I really would like to stay at POR. Just got back and loved it so much. It would be disappointing not to get POR.

What is the best way to check and see if free dining has been made available yet? Do I check my computer first thing in the morning, or should I check it at midday and midnight also? Where is the best place to go to see if it has been announced yet? I just don't want to miss the announcement and miss out on getting a booking if it becomes available. If they offer it August 26-Sept 22 all of this is for nothing anyway because I would need to go mid-August. Hoping for mid-August here. Thanks for any information that you can give me.

I sure sounds like you are going to be in the same boat as many of us and out of luck as far as free dining is concerned.

Keeping our fingers crossed for a discount of some type though.

It's so cool to see so many mother -children trips planned for this summer. I am taking my DS 12 the last week of August. We arrive 8/24, but will switch to room only for 2 nights if the free DDP does emerge! We are leaving DS14 and DH at home. DS 14 had pre season soccer for high school and has now become "too cool" for Disney world. How can that be?

Yes you would call Disney, no you cant use AAA and yes do it as soon as it is announced and the best way to know when is by the people on these boards so keep checking every morning.

We finally booked our airfare last night! Jet Blue out of Logan. Yeah!!!

My frustration with Disney now is that we want to split between 2 hotels and they are trying to make us buy 2 packages. We want the meal plan and are staying for 10 nights splitting between 2 resorts. They are telling us we have to purchase 2 five days, or any combination adding up to the length of the passes we want. It's a complete rip-off. Even the AAA travel agent can't get them to change it. Oh well, we are going regardless so I should focus on the positive! Anyone else going to be at Pop Century & Animal Kingdom Aug 20th - 30?

They have already listed a September Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining on the Disney TA site according to another site and a copy of the page was included. I also was able to get a peak at it too. The default check in date is 8/26/07.

You can't book anything as of now but they are getting ready to launch the special. You can try any dates but it says that they are outside of the range of the package.

having this show up so early on the TA site would be really early for a start date for bookings on 4/12 or for even 04/07. This would be way in advance if it started on 04/07 so I bet it will be sooner.

This won't help me and I am still keeping my fingers crossed for some type of discount for a little earlier in August, specifically starting on the 15th.
