Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

I doubt it's anything Nikki Heat related, unless it's a plagiarism issue or Black Pawn wants to drop him because sales are off. But the NH books that are published do OK, so he'd be picked up by another publisher. Doubt it's a movie since the one they did went straight to video.

Lanie being pregnant isn't going to change the show. She's not a major character - as much as I love her. Even if she's involved with Espo.

Something with Capt. Gates is an interesting idea. Lots could came from that. Kate was put in charge when Gates was away before - remember "That 70s Show"? So Gates takes a leave, Kate's in charge - that would have a big impact on the newlyweds.

If you think about the upcoming ep; it is possible that what "changes the shape of the show" could be that Esposito is badly hurt and ends up out of commission for awhile. I don't think that Amman would actually kill him off, but I could see using a serious injury to focus an ongoing plot thread on the makeup of the team and on what that would mean for Lanie.

The title even lends itself to that idea; as "Kill Switch" echoes "Kill Shot". "Kill Shot" was the ep in which Kate was suffering PTSD -- and it was Esposito who most helped her to get past it.

While it's not impossible that Javi could end up injured, the "changes the shape" clue is for the Christmas episode, the mid-season finale.

Oh so much to love in “Once Upon A Time in the West”! It was very nearly perfect. Certainly a classic lighthearted Castle episode, and I think I’d put it in the Top Ten, certainly in the Top Twenty.

Loved:
The whole scene with them telling Lanie and the boys. From the looks on their faces, to Lanie asking Javi to “hold this” and her speech about carbs, to her hitting Rick in the chest, to the guys crossing their legs and refusing to be high five Castle, it was so funny. Martha and Alexis were funny too. And I want to hear the song the guys wrote! My only real problem with the wedding was that the guys and Lanie weren’t there, but since that gave us this scene, it no longer bothers me.

The scene in Gates’s office. Her reminder that she didn’t get invited to the toast, to blaming Rick for that, and then her “Your husband may be right”.

The clothes they wore at the Wild West resort. She of course looked fantastic in everything, but he looked pretty good too. A few years ago, Stana Katic was quoted as saying she wanted to do a Western theme part where she could “wear a corset” and she got to do it. Loved when he first saw her in her Western themed duds – “that’s about 3 fantasies fulfilled” and how his jaw dropped when she first appeared in the black outfit. (and boy did her hair look awesome then, too!) Stana had to be uncomfortable in that outfit – it was about 100 degrees that day, according to Luke Reichle – but she did it.

The scene under the stars when he played the harmonica, and she decides that, yes, this is our honeymoon (“To us, to the journey and to what lies ahead”) and then the snake shows up.

Him carrying her over the threshold

Their naked cowboy neighbor was a hoot.

The scene when Gates tells the boys off. And her solution to the no days left for Kate.

The names he gives the horses!

The scene with the Native American elder

The opening title card!

The burning map

Castle getting stuck in the saloon doors

Kate showing Rick she did indeed learn something at the hog tying class

The whole end scene. Yes, technically her outfit looked like old Western underwear, but LR made it – and he called it a dress. (and you can see a bra strap in some pictures) In fact, he called it her “fourth wedding outfit” in tweets. And she looked so good in it!

The showdown between Rick & the bad guy. Loved that Kate saved him, too.

Other notes:
I wish there had been a Firefly reference! glad they didn't make any robot jokes.

Not too many complaints about that episode. (well, I did guess who the bad guy was pretty quickly) Classic Castle at it’s best. I almost wish there wasn’t an episode this week, that’s how much I loved this one.

forgot some favorite lines:

After watching the owner of the resort handle his gun:
Castle: I want to be him when I grow up
Beckett: if you grow up

Discussing how to proceed with the case:
Beckett: I can't just flash my badge and ask questions
Castle: So we act like writers
Beckett: So we procrastinate and make things up?
Castle: no. Well, yes. No. (and the way he voice changed as he said this)

And forgot some favorite scenes:
how Kate took off her cowgirl hat, kissed him good-bye, and said "be safe" before they each went off to do their separate bit of crime solving

Castle riding up with the horses & showing her the gun he bought. Then handing her the gun he bought her. And then her line: who says romance dies after you say I do?

I liked it, but not as much as Missy did. It really needed a Westworld joke. Unfortunately, Terence Paul Winter doesn't Tweet, or I'd ask him where it was. ;) (Chad Creasey did tweet a Westworld reference, so all is not lost.)

In a way, I think that Fillion's comfort with the whole horses and Stetsons scenario was the Firefly reference -- Castle was obviously comfortable with them, which seems a bit odd for a lifelong Manhattanite, yet no one commented on it. (FWIW, driving a team is not especially easy. If he hadn't done it in the past I don't think he would have been doing it in that ep; one horse is hard enough to drive if you don't know what you are doing..)

The banter WAS good; and I'm always happy to have it back again; as the dialogue makes the show for me. Thank you, Old Man Winter.

Yeah, I'm still a bit annoyed about the underwear, but it really didn't surprise me much. Reichle has a tendency to lose his head somewhat whenever he gets an opportunity to put Katic in a skirt -- ANY kind of skirt. (Witness the suit she wore in the last ep; the skirt was perfectly businesslike, but the low-cut camisole under the jacket was WAY too revealing for a precinct commander to be wearing at work.) Also, he tweeted a pic of the "cathouse extras" all sitting out on a porch, and most of them were only half-dressed by Old West standards. With that many ladies of loose virtue, apparently Diamondback was even more reminiscent of Westworld than it first appeared!

Question. I have direct TV and my DVR was set to record Castle on Monday but what I got was Dancing with the Stars. Was their a Castle?

Yes there was. Things were off because of the announcement from the grand jury.

By the way, I was away all last week so I didn't get to see last week's episode yet. I heard about the grand jury so I recorded extra time for Castle. Thank goodness for DVRs being able to be set remotely! When I heard what time the grand jury announcement was being made, I knew stuff would be off.

I've only watched the new episode once, so no long post about it.

I did like it a lot - I love the episodes that focus on Espo & Ryan, since I love them almost as much as Rick & Kate. (I'm more Team Kevin than Team Javi, but I do love them both)

I loved how all of them worked together to solve the crime - even Lanie & Gates.

I loved the "rolling up to a crime scene married" conversation. Loved the call back to Turner & Hooch from season 2.

I loved Kate telling Kevin not to blame himself, and the best way to help is to solve the mystery.

Loved the conversation between Ryan & Espo about family life.

Loved the connection between Espo & the transit cop

Loved Castle's subway jokes at the end

Loved Espo's "you're a wimp" to Kevin and then Kate saying "then I'm a wimp too"

All in all, not a bad episode, but not a great one either. I did know that the drug company was somehow involved, but didn't guess the killer, so that was a nice twist.

And since we know that part of the mid-season finale is something about Lanie & Espo's relationship, any guesses which way that's going to go?
