I watched "In the Belly of the Beast" again tonight on the big screen HD TV. And boy is the torture scene that much harder to watch in HD! And I couldn't decide if Kate has a furry blanket draped over her or wearing a fur coat (of Martha's, LOL) in the end scene.
But that was a great episode! Lots of great twists & turns. And man, Stana Katic is amazing. She blows me away.
First, quotes:
Kate: "Oh, I like that one. You?"
Rick: "Mm, I'm not really feeling it, though I guess, uh, you could convince me."
Kate: "I bet I could."
Rick: "Yeah, I mean, you'd have to work pretty hard to win me over, but, um..."
Kate: "Well, I'm prepared to do just that. Because it's clear to me that what we both need right now is a really good font."
Rick: "Yes, we do. That's so true."
Beckett: "This is heaven."
Castle: "You mean spending the day with your future husband?"
Beckett: "No, not that."
(her fumbling there made me think of the proposal!)
Beckett: "There's no work, no goals other than to waste hours on end."
Castle: "Okay, stop describing my life."
end of the fluffy quotes!
Espo: "She might be your fiance, but she's also a damn good cop. So don't sell her short."
and the 2 great Kate quotes:
Beckett: "I need you to know that our partnership, our relationship, is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. You're an amazing man and I love you with all of my heart. Always."
(from the letter)
Beckett: "When they were interrogating me, the only thing that kept me going was thinking about you, about our future, the wedding. You were with me the whole time."
(at the end after Castle jokes about "leaving her alone")
So many great scenes too!
Of course, the whole opening scene - in their pjs, discussing the fonts, discussing how she can talk him into that font, how they need a "good font", and then Castle after Gates' call - his little dance & his need to "focus".
Loved Gates giving her an out.
I loved the letter. Kate has always been a character of action, not words. And yes, she has been saying "I love you" a lot this year. But we don't often hear her feelings about Rick. She doesn't have a regular sounding board like he has in his mom. And when I hear her voice saying "our partnership - our relationship - is the best thing that has ever happened to me. You're an amazing man & I love you with all of my heart" I cry. Not ashamed to say that either.
Like I said before, the water torture scenes were brutal to watch. And when VS pulls her out of the water that last time, and her eyes roll to the back of her head, woah. I was just reading on Twitter (from tweets from SK's stunt double) that SK did all the water scenes herself. But --- the ice was fake & the water was warm, so at least there's that. Jonathan Adams, who plays Vulcan Simmons, has a fantastic voice (in fact, that's how I knew who it was)
a few other things:
I never read credits the first time thru an episode, so I didn't see Jack Coleman's name there. I follow a few people on Twitter who are lucky enough to get to see the episodes beforehand, and they all recommended not to try to guess who the "bad guy" was. So I never looked at imdb beforehand either. If I had looked at the credits, I would have missed VS because I didn't remember the actor's name. Of course, I would have remembered JC but I had kinda guessed it was him. By the way, neither Adams nor Coleman's name is on the cast list on imdb right now (at least they weren't 15 minutes ago)

I won't be surprised if it turns out that Fowler is a Bracken guy too (as you guys discussed the other day)
Interesting that Harden & Jones stepped out the room, leaving "Elena" in it alone. (the scene were Kate calls the precinct)
Lucky thing Frank Potter had beet juice & ketchup.
That was certainly one of the most dramatic episodes of Castle. I don't think I'll show that one to my 11 yr old niece, that's for sure. But I think I am slowly sucking dad in....tonight he was going to a dance, had a few minutes to watch TV before he left. Came in & sat with me watching the episode - and didn't leave until it was over. And he didn't talk during it either - a sure sign he was hooked!
