Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

Holy moley! I think I said that thru the last 10 minutes! I had suspected one of the bad guys, but not the other. Woah. Woah. That blew me away.

Spoiler if you haven't watched yet:

The credits gave away part the ending for me.

Me, too. Between that and the partial cast list on IMDB, I knew who the baddies were in the first two minutes. That really wasn't that much of a problem for me, though; there remained the question of how it would all mesh together.

As for the letter, I didn't think the text was up to Marlowe's usual standard for iconic romantic moments. I know it had to be short, but it just wasn't as impressive as I'd hoped.

FWIW, I think this is the setup for the takedown. Kate won't have to do it, someone else can run with the ball now that the connection has been made. Initially, I'm betting that that someone will be Gates. She's quite PO'd at Narcotics, and this situation has corruption written all over it; she is almost sure to start digging into it all on her own.

PS: I *suspect* that there is a long-shot possibility that Lazarus is not who we are being led to think that he is. "Lazarus" inplies a return from the dead, and you-know-who is most definitely not dead. "Smith", OTOH, is. Could Marlowe be pulling an Oncle Tyler on us? Unlike Kate, Smith read the entire file; he knew where the bodies are buried. Setting you-know-who up to be caught with drug money in his accounts would be an exquisite revenge.

I have another spoiler thought. The narcotics detective. He's hinky.

I'm with you on that. ... "someone about Elena's age and appearance, who speaks fluent Russian" Talk about a case of writing the job description to fit a specific resume. :rolleyes1

Oh, and my vote for dialogue line of the night: "What we both need right now is a really good font."
:happytv:

I think I need to watch the episode with Bracken from season 5 again. I don't remember the black guy at all. :confused3 I'll get out my DVD this week then I rewatch the new episode via on demand.

Wut??? :scratchin

Look at his first credit under Castle. His character died in season 3.

The other character was in Knockdown, episode 13 from season 3.

Yeah, I know! That's what made me go WUT??? Is it going to be a flashback episode or did he fake his death?

Ok, I was thinking of the wrong episode. I'll try to rewatch that one this week.

I doubt he faked his death. Let's not forget he got shot & Kate cried over his body minutes later.

Bracken was in 2 episodes from last year -the 1st one (After The Storm), and episode 13 (Recoil). The other guy was in season 3.

Since "Way of the Ninja" is a comic ep, I'm sure that "Capt. Montgomery" (Reuben Santiago) is going to be appearing in flashback -- probably giving out some of that famously sage advice of his.
(Or, if they are feeling particularly goofy, he could "appear" to someone in a dream or some such, a la Obi-Wan Kenobi -- the whole ninja theme lends itself to the "wise master" schtick.)

As to the "other guy" -- which other guy? Vulcan Simmons (Jonathan Adams), or Michael Smith (Geoff Pierson)? Both of those characters appeared in Knockdown

I was trying to not give away anything by saying the other guy, and sailorstitch and I were discussing Knockout, episode 13, not Knockdown.

I was thinking a little more about the Lazarus reveal. There is a real chance that Smith is still alive. Rick & Kate left him for a while. We do see the doctors & nurses - if they are indeed doctors & nurses - pull the sheet up over a body, but we don't see a face. And of course, he did tell Rick & Kate the best thing is to "disappear", and he certainly had the juice to do it.

But - remember Elena told Beckett that Lazarus wanted her to live because he owed her, and that is exactly what Bracken told Kate when they were alone, outside at the end of "Recoil". I don't know how Smith would have known that.

And, let's not forgot the only reason Smith protected Beckett is because he owed Roy Montgomery. When they asked him to testify against Bracken he refused because he doesn't owe anything to Beckett. He had the file - he could have ended it but he chose not to.

Plus - the Wydmark hotel is the same hotel where Beckett & Bracken had their showdown in "After The Storm". Even the water torture could be seen as a clue - it's the same thing Lockwood did to Kevin in Knockout, and Lockwood was Bracken's man. And when Kate asks VS if he's Lazarus he doesn't really answer her. I have a feeling he doesn't know who Lazarus is and he doesn't care.

And another thought I had about Michael Smith: we know he had 2 copies of that file, one that Maddox burned and one that blew up with the safe. But remember how many filing cabinets he had? Well, I wonder if he had another copy somewhere in there. And in the more than a year since his 'death' if anyone's gone thru those papers? :scratchin

Hey, I didn't say that Smith WAS Lazarus, only that he might be.

Do I think that Smith might have faked his death? Yes, definitely. He knew that "dying" was the best way to get off Bracken's hit list, so it stands to reason he might have chosen to take it.
As to his files; yes, he could have (and probably did) file yet another copy somewhere in some form. If I were a betting person, given his age and the mystery of his character, I'd figure it's on a microdot somewhere ;)

Could be Bracken; that would be more obvious. Smith would be fun, though; deliberately reproducing a dirty money scenario to take Bracken down with a corrupt SuperPAC.

When I told my mom that Captain Roy Montgomery would be coming back she replied by asking, "What? As a ghost?" :rotfl2: I don't think they could pull off that he faked his death. But there's only so many ways that you can bring back a character that died. Another option is a dream sequence.

Any Criminal Minds fans one here? They had any episode where they brought back Hotch's dead wife and the serial killer that killed her (who is also dead) for a very bizarre dream sequence. If CM can pull it off, so can Castle. :rolleyes1

I'm going to try to have my recap marathon tonight. *makes a list of all the episodes mentioned*
