Thinking of adding on…

I have a question about booking… I understand I can only book at my home resort at 11 months and have to wait until seven months to book if I don’t own there.
So if I add on, theoretically to have an 11 month advantage at another resort, can’t I only use the points that I own at that resort at 11 months?
So for example, if I buy 50 points at a different resort, won’t that only get me the advantage to be able to book only a couple of nights? And then I have to wait until the seven month mark to use my points from my other resort, which would be the majority of my points?
So how is this helpful? I understand people own 50 points here and 50 points there but how do you ever have a weeklong vacation that way??
I am thinking I’m looking at this wrong but the only resort I can really book for an extended time period will be my original resort where I have the most points.

50 points at 3 resorts is 150 points every 3 years if you are good about banking and borrowing for example. So you can stay at a different resort every year on a 3 year cycle.

50 points in some room types can be a decent length stay, say for example tower/duo studios at Riviera or Disneyland Hotel. And you do need owner's priority to get those rooms consistently because they're usually pretty much gone by the 7 month window.

In general though I tend to agree, I would want to own enough points at a resort for at least a week's stay every year. I don't like split stays in general.

Yes you are interpreting things correctly.

They may be doing a split stay or waiting for 7 months to combine.

Or using banking/borrowing to get a longer stay less frequently.

Yes and…
You can bank and borrow.
So only go to the 50 point resort every 3 years and you’ll have 150 points that year to use.
Then the other years go to the resort where you have more points.

That’s why I usually don’t like to have less than 100 points at any resort. I don’t like split stays and having only 50 points can be restrictive as I don’t love having banked points floating around.

The only exception is Aulani which I have a subsidized small contract. It works for us as we are planning to go there every 2-3 years. But if another subsidized contract for my UY pops up, I’ll grab it.

I am new so someone please correct me if I am wrong. If I want to stay at 2 resorts during the same 10 day trip and both had the same usage year, couldn't I book 7 nights at one and 3 at the other all at the 11 month window? I too am already looking to buy more and I don't even have my ROFR back yet! :)

I am wondering the same thing! I actually love split stays but in order for me to stay eight nights and book at the 11 month window say four nights at each, would I need to have the same use year?

Each would have their own 11 month window. So, if you booked 7 nights at the first one and want the other 3 at the other resort to be after the first 7, the 11 month window for those last three will be a different date.

For example, on Feb1st you’d be able to book Jan 1 to 8th on one and then in Feb 8th you’d be able to do the other resort from Jan 8 to 11th

Points must be in the same membership to be part of the same reservation.

But, a split stay at two different resorts, are two reservations, even if in the same membership.

So, if you don’t ever want to use points from both at the same resort and room type in the same trip, having a different UY is less important

However, if you see yourself regularly wanting not doing split stays, it is easier to have everything on the same membership…which means same UY and owners.

That is if they are at the same resort though correct? If I want 7 nights at resort A, which has its own points, and 3 nights at Resort B which has its own points, I can't BOOK them both at the same time? I know the most you can reserve at a time at a single resort is 7 nights and would then have to add more each day after or wait a few days and do it...but what I want to reserve at 2 different resorts, each with its own bucket of points?

Yep you can do that, however since you will have 2 separate check in days you'd have to book to do one 11 months out and then 7 days later book the other resort with your other contract 11 months out or vice versa.

I mean technically yes you can book them but using today as an example, today is August 2nd 2025 so you'd be be able to book July 2nd 2026 through the 9th at one resort, and then July 2nd through the 5th 2026 at the other resort. In order for you to have them back to back in a split stay you'd have to wait a week until August 9th 2025 so you can book July 9th through the 12th at the other resort.

Alternatively you could do the 3 days at resort B first and book July 2nd to the 5th and then on August 5th 2025 you can book July 5th through the 12th 2026 at resort A.

If your intention is to book 7 nights at resort A from July 2nd to July 9th and 3 nights at resort B from July 2nd to July 5th say for example if you had extra family staying for a shorter period time and didn't want them staying with you, you can book all of it today.

Thanks for taking time to explain!
