Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

First response: that was a fun episode!

And a few neat parallels to a previous hostage episode, “Cops & Robbers” (which is probably my favorite Castle episode of all time)

The lead cop, Peterson, asks for someone to call “Roman”. The lead cop tonight was Roman. (I guess Dean Norris, who played Peterson, was too busy to come back)

In the middle of “Cops & Robbers” Rick has a plan and tells his mother, “don’t worry I saw it on Die Hard”. In tonight’s episode, he tells them one of the hostages must have watched “Die Hard” too many times.

And I find myself wanting a cheeseburger!

DS16 was watching it with me, and when Roman asked for a safe word, both of us piped up instantly with "Apples!" :rotfl:

One of my favorite lines was when the wanna-be hero asked if the doughnuts were gluten-free.
"Dude, it's doughnuts. Either you're in or you're out." (And in an oblique reference to another thread on this board, note the shirt the jerk was wearing. Costuming anvil.)

There is something tickling at the back of my brain about the character names in this one, I'll figure it out eventually.

Oh, and as a sometime watcher of Scandal, I had to LOL when Tom Amandes' character asked "Do you know who I am?!" I wanted to say, "Governor Reston?" (Who in a rather exquisite bit of intra-network meta plot spinning, is also a politician who got away with a murder ... shades of Senator Bracken.)

The character name thing I caught was the hostage taker's name was Emma Riggs. Diana Rigg played Emma Peel in the Avengers (the 1960s TV show, not the movie). But that might be a stretch.

I'm sitting here waiting for the episode to download to my Touch, so I figured I'd post some of my favorite quotes from the episode:

Kate: What am I going to do, just sleep in every morning and screw around till the phone rings? What kind of life is that?
Castle: Mine.

Kate: I've been kind of looking forward to spending the rest of my life with you so don't do anything stupid in there, OK?
Castle: Don't worry. I think I've already hit my stupid quota for the day.

Ryan: You think you're being rushed now, wait until after the wedding. About ten minutes from the altar they'll all be like, when are you two having a baby?

Kate: If there's one thing you excel at Castle, it's talking.

Kate: I don’t need to work? Does that mean you’re my sugar daddy?

Castle: She dotted the i!

Castle: Cheeseburger!

Castle: I know who the killer is!

Ryan: You think you're being rushed now, wait until after the wedding. About ten minutes from the altar they'll all be like, when are you two having a baby?

Another funny in conjunction with the above quote ... Espo's rejoinder.
He said, "So, your wife's hormonal because she's pregnant -- what's your excuse?" (As Beckett squirms uncomfortably because she REALLY doesn't want to discuss that subject.)

Also funny more for the physical comedy rather than the line: when Beckett tells Ryan and Esposito to go back and search the victim's apartment again, they turn around in unison and give her identical looks of total disbelief. (Those two are really great at the whole "synchronized swimming" acting technique.)

The Friday night "feelings about that episode" post.

What I loved:

1. the bed scene between Rick & Kate. From the way Kate drummed her fingers on Castle's chest, to the "are you sleeping" "yes" "then why did you answer" "cause I'm sleep talking" to her "I may as well be a mall cop" that whole scene was great. (plus Nathan in a tee shirt with bed hair!). Also loved when he told her that she didn't need to work since she's "with" him now - her "so you're my sugar daddy?" and his "still sleep talking"...

Then it got funny - well, Pi walking in without knocking was weird - Martha handing them coffee - loved Stana Katic's face when she sipped it - then Alexis bringing in the phone - Kate thinking it was for her, great great scene.

2. Castle getting shot - Kate running to him - him yelling "cheeseburger!"

3. Kate helping him with his vest, reminding him she wants to spend the rest of her life with him, so don't do anything stupid, his "don't worry. I think I hit my stupid quota for the day"

4. the Nikki Heat/Derek Storm trivia stuff. He can't help himself, can he? :lmao:

5. Kate walking down the street after Gates gave her OK to go to the crime scene

6. Gates doing the questioning of the father, because she doesn't want anything to happen to Espo & Ryan. I've always liked the character, and stuff like that makes me like her more.

7. Gates telling Rick she's willing to listen to his theories.

8. the stuff at the crime scene - Lanie bugging Kate about wedding stuff, Ryan's comments, Espo's response. And we finally got to see Lanie this year, even if it was 1 scene only.

9. Kate telling Espo what to do, and the guys response to that.

10. Sully laughing at Rick's "He's going from the big house to the...big house"

11. Kate telling the guys she's back. Rick's response, then Ryan's announcement, the applause, Rick's announcement of free drinks at the Old Haunt, then Rick & Kate's kiss.

I just really enjoyed the episode from beginning to end. Of course, as soon as I heard that the father was the commish's golfing buddy I knew what was going to happen, but it still was great. I did love how Gates got him to do what he did.

Alicia Lagano, who played Emma was great.

Honestly, I didn't catch what kind of shirt that guy was wearing until the shooting scene, and I have to admit I had no idea that that kind of shirt is frowned upon, so it wasn't an anvil for me.

Talking costumes, that sweater that Kate wore is the one from Significant Others.

This episode is now one of my favorite Castle episodes. Terence Paul Winter wrote this one as well as Cops & Robbers which is my favorite Castle episode. (I believe he also wrote Blue Butterfly, another favorite of mine)

Apparently TNT is not going to be showing "Still" and they didn't rerun it on ABC. Is it because of the bomb thing? I really wanted to see it again. I may have to buy it from iTunes if it is out of the rotation.

I checked again - TNT is not showing it when they show the season 5 episodes. I doubt it's because of the bomb subplot they've had another bomb episodes and showed them. It may be because there are so many scenes with so many actors in them that paying residuals may be crazy. It's the only reason I can come up with. It is on the DVD set & it's available on iTunes.

Yeah, well; I'm a costuming geek (I used to do it for a living, so I notice these things.)

It's not that contrast-color dress shirts are frowned-upon, exactly, but in certain professional circles, there is often a perception that, especially when worn by younger men, they signal someone pretentious. Someone who is "all hat and no cattle" if you know what I mean. (I only mentioned it because the topic of contrast-collar shirts came up in another thread, one about giving a really nice dress shirt as a gift.) I *seriously* doubt that Luke Reichle would ever have Fillion wear one.

That was a fun episode! Look out for a scene with Kate, some coffee and a letter.....

Another homage: this time it was The Terminator. (Homage eps are so much fun. :thumbsup2)

Hunch: I have a feeling that there is going to be a situation soon that is going to have Kate being in the position of getting torn between Castle and Alexis. I don't think that she resents Alexis at all, but they are not really close, so when Kate sides with Alexis there are teensy shades of what torpedoed Castle's marriage to Gina: he wants Alexis all to himself, the way that it has always been. And while Pi really *is* a legitimate disaster, Castle's present attitude would probably turn up in reaction to any guy that Alexis got serious about. I do believe that it is time to call in Jim Beckett for a consult. (And as serious as that character always seems, I suspect there is some comic gold to be mined again in the conversation he and Castle could have about this. Jim is Yoda -- with coffee and proper grammar.)

Personally, I hope Marlowe chooses NOT to do the wedding this season, unlesss they decide to make this the final season. I've always thought that the wedding should be the series finale.
(I've got the impression that MilMar and the cast are up for one more season, and I think that given how well they managed strretching "will they or won't they", stretching out the denouement for another 30 or so eps won't be something that they cannot handle.

My guess is that it probably depends largely on the mood of the suits at ABC. Bones has already done a wedding this year; and given the oft-mentioned similarities between the premise of the two shows, a Castle wedding this season might seem too BTDT, especially if it is another outdoor wedding. (And given Marlowe's frugal style, I'm sure that any beach wedding that Castle does will be filmed in Southern California.)

One thing that I do think is sure: no one who works on this program on a regular basis is going to have difficulty finding steady work when it ends. The production of Castle has a reputation in television for being a very pleasant workplace and for running like a well-oiled machine, ALWAYS on time and under budget. That's not easy to achieve over 6 years, and it speaks very well of the professionalism of all involved.
