Official "Castle" thread! Spoilers welcomed!

I love how Alexis is growing up, and "make up ice cream" just doesn't cut it any more. Really left Castle at sea.

Although I still don't understand the attraction to Pi - couldn't they have cast a guy that Molly Quinn had at least some chemistry with?

While I agree that Castle acted like a jerk at the little dinner party, I thought she was a little over the top in that last scene. Not even letting him in? I can see not wanting to give Rick an easy out, but that was mean. Don't get me wrong, I see why she's hurt. He should have told her that he proposed and that Kate said yes. But at least let him in. I don't disagree with her "no" to make up ice cream, but I think the 2 of them need some major sit down and talk time. Which will probably happen next week.

and I guess the whole "I had to hear about the engagement from Gram" thing means that Rick & Kate kept that to themselves for a while too. As I remember (maybe I'm off) he proposed to Kate the same day he gave Alexis the check for the trip to CR. I guess it's possible she left a few days after that, and again, that he didn't tell Alexis himself is not good.

Absolutely, he should have told her himself, preferably in person. Part of it may have been related to her age (since she's too old to really need to treat Kate as a parental figure), but the odds are that he just forgot about in the joy of getting what he always wanted ... and wanting to spend every moment of that last two weeks in NYC with Kate. Bliss often makes people stupid. :confused3

I think that the proposal came at least a day after the check, but I could be wrong as well; I don't have the DVD handy to check the costumes for continuity. I think that it's possible that Alexis left NYC that day or the next, but didn't go straight to CR; she could have gone to visit Meredith in the meantime, given that the original plan was for her to be in CR for the majority of the summer.

I think that the timeline has been a bit off since Watershed, so it may not make sense. (TEM was asked about it on Twitter, and she crawfished out of a real answer. She said it was due to "timey-wimey reasons". LOL)

I checked the DVD when I got home tonight.

the scene before he signs the check, Espo is wearing a nice tan suit. Then when Rick signs the check wearing a cobalt blue shirt. While all this is going on, Kate is talking to her dad and she gets a text that they have the suspect. Then you see her questioning him, she comes out of there to tell Espo & Ryan he's ready to write out his confession, and Espo is wearing the same suit. Then E & R asks her what's going on, she says she'll tell them but she has to talk to "someone else" first. She calls Castle, he's at his desk in the same shirt. Next scene is Kate wearing the same leather jacket & shirt she had on earlier and walking to the swings.....

So it appears that all happened on the same day. So I don't think she left that same day because I'm pretty sure Rick would take her to the airport. And if he & Kate wanted to wait to tell others, they (or at least he) should have told Alexis before she left. And if for some reason he didn't, he should have been the one to call & tell Alexis. I know some people are blaming Martha but I bet she thought he had told Alexis.

I still think Alexis has been a brat but I understood it before & I really understand it now. No matter what, he is her father & she should treat him with respect. But I still like Alexis. This is her teen age rebellion. She's doing it at 19 instead of 15 or 16 like most do. Poor Rick. But he kinda set himself up for this. And like I've already mentioned, the guy could have been fantastic & Rick would have been unhappy.

With that timeline, the only scenario I can think of for her leaving that day is that the business with the check happened in the morning, but that Kate didn't call Rick until late afternoon. So, I suppose that it is *possible* that Alexis took the check up to Columbia, then Rick took her to the airport when she got home, and then after he returned from the airport he got the call from Kate. I think that he had already had the ring for some time, probably since not long after the events of Always. What I just cannot see is Rick having been alone with Alexis after the proposal and failing to tell her about it; I can see forgetting to tell her if she was out of town, but not if she was sitting next to him in a private place. Even if Kate wanted to keep it quiet for awhile, I don't think that she would have asked him to keep it from Alexis, and obviously, Martha was aware, so he told someone in his family, at least.

Of course, there is also a third possibility: that Marlowe just decided to screw the logic of the situation and set up this scenario between Alexis and Rick because it makes for a good plot conflict. (My money is on this one, FWIW. We all tend to overthink, after all. ;))

There's a question in that spoiler that has already been answereed, "Has Kate ever had occasion to handle a baby?" Yes, she has, back in Season 1 in "Little Girl Lost." At the end of the ep, she was the one that recovered the girl and took her back to her father, bunny and all. She was obviously VERY comfortable handling a tot. (Which makes perfect since since Katic is the oldest of six children IRL.)

I think that it would be rather difficult for her to convincingly play someone who is uncomfortable around children, not least of which because of the baby's reaction. There are some people in this world who are kid-magnets; children just naturally gravitate to them and feel comfortable with them, and I've heard more that once that Stana Katic is one of those people. One of the things that people often comment on when they visit the set is that if there is a child on the premises, Katic will end up entertaining him or her. (FWIW, my DH is one of those people, too -- we cannot go anywhere where children are present that some random child doesn't just walk up and grab his hand or crawl into his lap. I've been living with the Pied Piper for 23 years.)

I have a feeling that Marlowe is trying to set up a joke - that everyone will assume that Castle can handle a baby with no problem and it will be Kate with the issue, but it will turn out that Kate has no problem & Rick will.

And handling a toddler for 5 minutes is way different than taking care of an infant.

Yeah, Stana Katic is a natural with kids, but then so is Nathan Fillion. So no matter which way they go with this plot, they're probably going to have to fake it a bit.

And I know all about being a Pied Piper to kids - my dad is and I inherited it! I can't go anywhere - the supermarket, a restaurant, the mall, WDW -without having a kid want to talk to me or hold my hand.

From Molly Quinn's interview:
Do you think Pi is here to stay?
Yeah, I think … Alexis is in love.
And therein lies the problem, both for me, and I think for Rick. Molly is a gifted actress, and yet not for a second do I believe she's in love with Pi. And I don't think Rick does either. Because if he did, he'd act differently - his greatest goal has been to see Alexis happy.

More tellingly, I think; Pi isn't in love with her. Lord knows what his real reasons are for being there, but if he had really loved her and was living at Chez Castle for a month, he would have made an effort to get on Rick's good side, because if you love a girl, you are NOT going to antagonize the dad who is letting you essentially live with her. (Of course, it is possible that like the Pi clone I know IRL :rolleyes2, he didn't even realize that Rick didn't like him. Yes, I *do* know someone who is so much like Pi that it's scary.)

I agree that the joke will probably be that Kate is better with the baby than Rick is, and it is no doubt going to drive him nuts because he handled Alexis so well. Like most men, he probably didn't spend time babysitting for money, and as he is an only child who has an only child, his experience probably has all been with one baby. As babies, some kids are easy and some kids are not, and unless you have dealt with a whole lot of them, the tough ones can throw you some nasty mental curve balls.

As to Beckett and the toddler from S1, I know that a few minutes isn't several days, but in that particular case the level of physical confidence that Katic showed was noticeable even in that brief scene, at least I thought so. This is a woman who has spent a LOT of time with little children. (IME, You can always tell people who are experienced with handing young children by how they literally handle young children -- they have a noticeably casual and confident way of picking them up and holding them. You only get that level of muscle memory with lots of practice. Much as DH has always had kids gravitate to him, it wasn't until we had our own that he became confident at actually picking them up and casually holding them; as he never was physically responsible for little ones before that point. He was physically awkward with DS for at least a month. It will be interesting to see how well Fillion handles that physical aspect, because unlike Katic, he doesn't have younger siblings.)

PS: I should mention that I'm NOT the Pied Piper type; before I had my own kids I always avoided holding babies unless I was getting paid to do it, because little kids other than my own tend to hate me. All I have to do is say one word and they will start to bawl -- I don't even have to touch them to set it off. (I have a VERY low voice for a woman, and I'm told that my natural facial expression is a bit scowl-like.) Kids who know me well are fine with spending time with me, but kids I don't know are another story; I apparently scare the bejeezus out of them.

BTW, there's an extended promo up on YouTube for 6x07: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUGZycXdz6Y
(Which, in turn, begs the question of how 19 yo Alexis "knows" a killer who committed his crime long enough ago that it's a cold case, and without her father knowing that she knew the guy.)

"Get A Clue" was a pretty good episode. Not a favorite, but still lots of fun. For once, the case was a little more interesting to me than the rest of the story. And as usual, there were lots of great lines:

Castle: It's as though he's turned being a charming man-child into a career.
Kate: Now that doesn't sound familiar, does it?

Castle: What’re you doing?
Beckett: Making stuff up, just like you do.
Castle: Yeah, because that’s my job. It’s your job to follow the evidence. You’re messing with the natural order of things.

Beckett: Hear that Castle? Our suspect is an ex-con, a felonious monk.

Ryan: You know, there are times I wish she stayed in D.C.

Castle: Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go home and wallow in what is perhaps the most disappointing day of my crime-solving career.

Castle: This is not my idea of going to the chapel with you

Loved the sword fighting scene.

Loved when Rick figured out the puzzle.

Loved Kate climbing up just to get a few bars on her phone.

Loved Castle's "oops" when the door to the chamber shut. I guess he didn't think of Raiders of the Lost Ark then.

Loved Kate's reference to National Treasure.

We've already discussed Alexis. I did wonder if Kate was invited to the dinner party.

So not a bad episode, but not a great one. Monday's episode does look like a good one, I'm looking forward to it.

Don't post but read every new post. Have to say I loved when Rick put his hand in the opening of the face and then screamed like something happened to his hand. The look on Kate's face!
