Okay so I was letting my daughter have input on her birthday cake this August. I specifically planned dinner at 1900 PF so we could get a cake from the GF. Over the course of several weeks, I/We had decided on the Mad Hatter cake. She had narrowed it down to a Tinkerbell or Alice theme. I was getting pretty excited about this cake.

After reading a post about Publix cakes, I hopped on their site just to take a peek. BIG MISTAKE! As soon as my daughter saw the Tinkerbell and Fairies signature Publix cake she immediately deemed it the perfect cake. I explained that we probably wouldn't be able to have it at the restaurant for dessert (I don't think they will let us bring an outside cake?????). She said that's fine we can have it in the room after dinner .

I know Publix cakes are fine and my husband will be thrilled that it will save us money, but I am so disappointed. It seems like a cake we could get at home through our local baker. Guess I was looking forward to it more than the birthday girl.

Sorry for the rant, maybe I can get both? (Joking)

If it makes you feel any better, the Publix cakes I've had tasted better than any Disney cake I've had - and they're a bargain too!

I was thinking that I had read somewhere on the boards a listing of options for cake flavors, fillings, etc. Is there a list?

My apologies if it's in a totally obvious place and I just missed it.

Well, I contributed the list of flavors offered to Disney weddings that was posted on the first page of the locked Cake Thread II:

However, not all of these flavors are available everywhere, and there may be other flavors you could get if you asked. It all seems to depend on who you talk to and how willing they are to go the extra mile for you.

Your best bet for getting the flavors on my list is to order a cake for a restaurant or your room at the Grand Floridian.

So my list of ADR's includes Ohana, California Grill, Coral Reef, Le Celier, and Crystal Palace.

We usually always do a GF restaurant so ordering a cake is a no brainer as we have gotten wonderful cakes from them. However as you see this trip there is no GF restaurant.

Any suggestions as to where we should order a cake from? It is for our anniversary so I am looking to do something cute for my hubby since we will be alone. I was looking to custom order something even though it is just the two of us because I figured we could store it in the fridge and nibble all week. California Grill is our first night there.

I really havent heard of many cakes over at CG. Do they have their own bakery, if so how are the cakes from there? Do you call private dining over there and if so are the offerings similiar to GF? We are staying at Poly so transporting it after dinner would not be an issue.

Any info would be great, thanks.

We're having dinner at Boma for the birthday in our group and we're staying at POP. Is it easier to get a custom cake delivered to a restaurant, or the hotel room/cafe? I just want to have the best info I can before I make my phone call to place an order. Thanks to everyone for sharing all the info you have so far!

I would think twice about ordering a cake from the California Grill. We got a 10 inch cake there for my dad's 60th and while it was tasty it wasn't really worth the nearly $100 I paid. I was offered white, choc, or marble and a butter cream or fruit cream (like the consistency of yogart). we also added an edible image of goofy. IMHO it was not worth the price especially when the dessert offerings at CG are so good.

$100 is just way too much. The cake I just posted above was only $75 before our discount. And it would have been $30 less if we hadn't gotten the white chocolate Mickey topper. So, we would have had a 10 inch custom for $45. Without the Mickey topper, they would have done a lot more with the flowers. And I believe, if I had not wanted the mickey icons on the sides, they could have skipped the fondant and it would have been a little cheaper yet. But, with getting the 20% discount, we thought $60 for what we got was great! But, that was at the BC bakery.

20% discount? Was this with the TIW card?
If so, did you tell them when you ordered the cake or did they just subtract it from your dinner bill?

i never get to be with my daughter on her birthday, so this year at disney i am going to do a surprise birthday cake for her. i have seen the one that i want on this thread and it is beautiful. i hope the gf bakery will be able to do it again and i will have it delivered to our restaurant during dinner. citricos or narcoossee's. that will be fun. is that what you call an unbirthday cake?

I like the idea of the cake being delivered to our room at BLT on the first evening and then we can snack on it while looking at the MK from our balcony!!

In your case, I'd say to have it at a restaurant. Only a few people have been able to get a cake delivered to Pop - it's a lot easier at the Deluxe resorts because they have a Private Dining dept. that facilitates it.

Yes - call the Contemporary and ask to be transferred to Private Dining.

So here is the birthday cake we got at Citrico's last night. The pictures do not do it justice. The flowers were amazing and edible. Tinkerbell and the flowers had a subtle glitter/shine all over them. The restaurant was great and plated the slices beautifully and boxed up the rest. The Grand bakery is fantastic! It was $140 total. 10 inch Marble cake with custard and strawberries, frosting under green fondant. White chocolate Tinkerbell and purple and green flowers and vines/leaves/butterflies. Everyone LOVED it!

I love this cake. This would be perfect for my daughters up coming 11th birthday trip in August, I would love to have this duplicated. Can you tell me how you explained what you wanted. I have never ordered a custom cake at Disney and a little confused on how to go about it. I do want to use the GF bakery as She is eating at 1900 PF for her birthday. Thank you!!!

California Grille LOST my birthday cake order. It was placed 2 weeks early and when my TA called to confirm it the day before, it was lost and could not be honored.

Coral Reef was supposed to have it a few days later, but the Cali Grille person never made that phone call to set it up, so we didn't get it there either. (and the manager at Coral Reef was horrified at the mix up too!)

Then Le Cellier was supposed to do it, but since the phone call was placed by the Cali Grille person after 6pm on Friday for a Monday evening ADR, Le Cellier would not honor it either since apparantly NO ONE works in EPCOT cake orders over the weekend.

To say that I was disappointed in the fact that a Mickey Head cake could not be done in the Year of Celebrations is an under statement.

My compensation was supposed to be a free white chocolate monorail delieverd to our room at the CR. We got the monorail, AND THE BILL!!! Still waiting for that credit to post on my account

I just spoke with a very helpful CM at the AKL bakery and found out that to add an image to a regular 8" cake would be an extra $30!!!

I am totally floored. I could almost get two cakes for that price as the cake itself is $32...

Wow! If it's $30 for an edible image, then that is so rediculous!! I just paid $5. for one at my local Stop and Shop and had another bakery put the image on a cake for my daughter's 13th birthday.

For my 40th birthday, I ordered an 8 inch cake at CRT and just said I want Melificant on it and they did it for me and it was $25. That was in 2005 but still that's a huge $$ increase!!!!

Hi everyone!

The mini wedding cake that we had in May was wonderful. We ordered it from the Boardwalk Bakery. That was the best buttercream I've ever had! Sandy was wonderful. She was so nice. She matched little mickey heads to the color of my wedding dress. This cake was for our anniversary.

Question about the mini wedding cake: can anyone give me the 411 on it (or at least a link to all of that information?) What are your options with this cake, I'm aware that it is limited but how limited?
