I'm starting to think it's GF. The cakes being ordered from them are priced really high. It's crazy to see prices of $100 or more. I posted several pages back about my experience and thoughts regarding the cake I was trying to order. I used another resource and ordered the cake that way. When I was discussing cost I explained what I was told by Pat and the person I ordered from couldn't figure out how the GF priced out the cake. I anticipated paying full price for the 2 cakes I wanted and a slight decorating fee since I was asking for particular colors but the quote from Pat was twice the cost of the cakes if ordered individually. I was told that all the bakeries were supposed to be standizing the cake prices but it doesn't seem like it.
I can't believe some of the prices I'm seeing recently! Back in Feb, I got an estimated price for the "gift" style cake (inspired by one on this page - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1859670&page=108) - single layer, yellow cake, passion fruit mousse filling, fondant with a bow on top, in shades of purple - of $75. Now it seems like people are getting much higher prices on simpler cakes. Since our birthday trip has become an un-birthday trip, I'm waffling about spending the money on a custom cake from the GF this time. I'm thinking about just ordering the much less expensive Mickey cake from the Boardwalk for our dinner at Flying Fish as an un-birthday surprise instead. I'll price it both ways, but I can't see spending $100+ for a "just because" cake.

). The amount of work that goes into some of these cakes is insane. And yes, some of the prices are insane too, but in the end, hopefully it's worth it. It seems that the Grand Floridian and the Yacht Club are almost always worth it, and that also seems to be where the most money needs to be spent.
