I've gotten so much information from these cake threads, it inspired me to join! :thumbsup2 Just wanted to let everyone know that I ordered the one-tier Mad Hatter cake for my son's 16th birthday brunch at 1900 Park Fare through Pat yesterday. I was quoted a price of $160, which was more than I expected. But, (a) he's my only kid, (b) you're only 16 once, and (4) ;) I wanted to have some pictures to share with all of you upon my return. Thanks again for all of your insight!

Has anyone ever had a Pluto cake done? My DD LOVES Pluto and has asked for a Pluto cake. We will be celerbrating her third birthday at Disney in June. Thanks for all the great information and photos!!!:thumbsup2

Welcome! Can't wait to see pictures of your cake! Think of it as $10 for every year -- doesn't sound so bad that way:lmao:. Enjoy:goodvibes

I asked about this before but don't think I got any responses, so I'm going to bug again!:rolleyes1 Has any one gotten a cake at CR besides a Mikey Head cake? I was going to order that bt because they use dark chocolate or so I read decided against it since none of us like Dark chocolate. I am looking to see what anyone may have been able to get at either CR or Poly, since we have meals there early in the trip and don't want to order late in the trip. I want a cake that hasthe fresh berries of any kind between the layers. Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

Ok I just decided to call and see what they have at CR and the lady on the other end was very very nice with private dining! Unfortunaley she didn't say her name and I failed to ask. I wanted to order something for both of the kids to enjoy since we are going between their birthdays. Yes I wanted a custom cake for 3 of us, we are there for 11 days ordered this for our third night for CM, so we still have 8 days to eat the rest!:lmao: I am not a chocolate fan,:confused3 so I opted for vanilla I ordered the 10" vanilla cake with fruit mousse and vanilla buttercream. I picked a Lilo and Stitch decoration since my kids have always liked them and my daughter is a bit older. I had asked for different color hearts to express my love for them but she didn't sound like they could do that.:confused3 Anyways she told me that the cake would be (in her words) Heavily decorated! I also got Happy Birthday with their names. So it isn't as fancy as some of the cakes I have seen on here but I am happy to be getting the fruit mousse that I have been wanting and I am excited to get this for them. The nice thing is when we are done, we can take it right up to our room at CR!

I will be sure to take a lot of pictures. I was going to get the Mickey Head cake because every one says how good it is, however we don't like dark chocolate and I read on here previously that is on the outside. Oh well I think yours will be great too! I would like to see the inside of the Mickey Head cake!

ours will definitely chocolate inside and out (we are MEGA chocolate lovers )

I just got back from my trip at Disney. I was able to order a 10 inch vanilla with buttercream icing and peanut butter cup filling between the layers. I have pictures but its really just a plain looking cake with flowers. I couldnt afford to do anything special on top. Word to all of you wanting to get the 10 in specialty cake.....It is completely worth it in every way. It was the best tasting cake my family has ever had. I had it delivered to Saratoga and we ate on it for 5 days until it was gone. I would do it all over again just to taste that flavor.

It appears that sometimes it is. If they give you only a choice of vanilla/vanilla or chocolate/chocolate, that's usually an indication that it's a frozen cake. But if you have more flavor choices it should be a custom cake....

All 8" and larger cakes are made fresh. They are not frozen cakes. None of the cakes on property are frozen anymore. The company is no longer using the Sarah Lee frozen 6" cakes.

Then why did the Main Street Bakery tell me I had to wait a few hours to pick up a 6-inch cake so it could be defrosted? :confused3 Did this happen in the last 10 days?

Oh my goodness! I just had to share my disbelief at the price I was quoted for a cake. I called and talked to Pat at the Grand Floridian. I told her I wanted a basic 10 inch chocolate cake but covered with fondant with a little fondant bow. She told me it would be $140!!!! :scared1:I have seen MANY cakes on the DIS that people have gotten that were covered in fondant. They were around $75-$90. I guess my 8 year old will be getting a regular cake with roses!

This is great to hear. My friend went in November and got a frozen cake. Yuck!

Yes, crazy jump this year. The Minnie Mouse cake I posted was $75 last year with a TIW discount on top of that. It had pink fondant and lots of details. The Tink one we are getting for $140 this year has way more than a bow though!

I'm starting to think it's GF. The cakes being ordered from them are priced really high. It's crazy to see prices of $100 or more. I posted several pages back about my experience and thoughts regarding the cake I was trying to order. I used another resource and ordered the cake that way. When I was discussing cost I explained what I was told by Pat and the person I ordered from couldn't figure out how the GF priced out the cake. I anticipated paying full price for the 2 cakes I wanted and a slight decorating fee since I was asking for particular colors but the quote from Pat was twice the cost of the cakes if ordered individually. I was told that all the bakeries were supposed to be standizing the cake prices but it doesn't seem like it.

I think the standard for the 10 inch is $40. So then another $28-$35 for a white chocolate figure brings it to at most $75. Does fondant and some decorations really add another $65 to the cake. We asked for a lot of detail so maybe on ours but not for just a bow.

Pat said that if it had fondant on it, the price was a $140 minimum. Yikes! We'll take regular icing please! :rotfl2: We're eating at OHana the night of DD's bday, but Chef Bret at the Poly referred us to the GF because they don't do cakes with fondant, etc. he said. He told me the price should be about $75 with the fondant. Imagine my surprise when the price was almost double what the Poly said it should be. I think I'm going to call Chef Bret at the Poly back and order a regular cake from him. I just don't want the frozen kind. Yuck!
