The cake looks beautiful, but I am sorry it didn't turn out as you had hoped. It seems a lot of people are having issues with the GF Bakery lately :confused3

That's too bad about your strawberries!!! :guilty: I can't even get Pop to call me back for my cake next week and I have left 3 messages...

We received our daughter's milk chocolate slipper dessert & Mickey Head last night for her birthday at Citricos. My daughter has allergies/sensitivies and this is why they worked with us, but, they still ended up making the Mickey head out of mousse (she can't eat it). It was supposed to be chocolate ice cream - they forgot the ice cream and made the head out of mousse. My hubby ate it - my daughter loved the chocolate slipper though! It had sugar roses in it as decoration due to the mousse issue.

I reminded my server and the bakery brought it up right away! My daugther was very happy, although they didn't put a candle in it like they did the table next to us, so she was a bit sad about that.

I don't know how to post an image, so if someone can remind me of how to do that, I can post a photo!

Sorry you are having problems with POP. Chef Rob called me back with no problems at all, and now i feel terrible they went to all the work to make them and I totally forgot about them.

Maybe that is the problem, the cake hotline dumps me into someone name Chef Christian (? not sure but it is a girl's name) every time I call

I have a tough decision to make....I was going to order an anniversary cake for my DH & I for our anniversary dinner at California Grill...but now I'm thinking of ordering it for our dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse on the 1st night of our vacation.

Any suggestions of which night to choose?

We had a cake on the 29 for my daughters b-day it was $50 and not worth it at all. It was white cake with chocolate mousse filling with white butter cream frosting. We asked for Jasmine on it. What we got was tiny jasmine figure. I didn't think it tasted all that great. We were going back to the park so we did not take the cake with us. We had them cut pieces for the people sitting around us at Ohanas

I'm sorry you were disappointed, 29apr00, but how is a screen print on chocolate different than an edible image on chocolate? Seems like a misunderstanding. I agree that the arrangement wasn't, um, intuitive but GFB often does the stand up image thing so it doesn't surprise me. It's still a beautiful, delish looking cake - I hope you didn't really let it be ruined for you.

I predict the end of labor-intensive and extremely specialized custom cakes is coming. Or, the price is going to go through the roof as a dissuasion tactic.

I want to do a birthday cake for my friend and I at the Hoop Dee Doo. Do they deliver there, and what do they do? I want to do a certain character cake!

Not sure what their policy is now, but not too long ago they didn't want to get involved in cakes at all (too hard to get delivered with the timing of the show etc.)

Yup, that's the one. It now goes to the Boardwalk Resort's Room Service number, whereas just last month we actually talked to the Bakery. I don't get it; why would they do that and have you speak to people who don't even know how the cakes can be decorated?:headache:

When I ordered a cake from BWB in October '06, I was told that I had to go through room service too. I persisted, thinking that many others here had spoken directly to BWB but when I finally finagled the number the person who answered hung up on me as soon as I mentioned ordering a cake. I tried again the next day and another person sent me directly to BW room service without another word. Based on this and others' experiences, I don't think they've ever ENCOURAGED direct communication but it depended who answered the phone. I abandoned that channel and ultimately did use room service ... our cake turned out fine and yummy to boot. Good luck!

Many have posted their cakes, and zurgswife was kind enough to begin this thread with copies of the cakes!

I think the last post on the page prior also said it was a 1900 cake -

interesting that they didnt make the Lady and Tramp on the cake, but on the side...

I think calling the Grand Floridan Bakery number is a good place to start - give them ideas of what you have in mind and how they can help - again, using the first page with the list of cake sizes, flavors and fillings helps too..

this is what i originally wanted, but with Lady and the Tramp. Unfortunately they didn't have a Lady and the Tramp mold.

So this is what she said I could have.

As you can see, there is a big difference between what I wanted, and what I got. The edible image isn't on chocolate, it's just edible ink on a sheet/paper of icing. Not tasty at all.

Ah, I see now what they did, since you posted the close up. They didn't screen print it on white chocolate at all, as the Ariel was done. They just cut around the edible image picture, the wafer type stuff the edible image is made of. I wouldn't have been happy with that either, I don't think. :sad1:

These pictures are great. Im thinking about getting a cake for my boyfriend and I's anniversary and these are excellent and look so yummy!:rotfl:

Does anyone know if they will make a cake like above with Flouder screen printed (if that is the correct term) on it?
Thanks. Also if I understand correctly from reading the pages on this thread, if you get a cake delivered to your room in POFQ it will only be one of the frozen cakes, not one you can specify what/how you want it. Did I understand correctly? I sometimes get brain freeze...

I've been thinking the same thing for awhile. The 1st cakes posted here were amazing, but that was a long time ago. Now that ordering cakes has become more common, it's rare to see one that stands out as being better than the avg cake you can get most anywhere. It really seems there's more potential for disappointment than satisfaction now.

Because you folks were so kind to share your advice and experiences, I thought I'd post photos of the birthday specialties I purchased for my twins' 16th b-day at WDW.

They had the Slippers dessert at 1900 Park Fare, and the wonderful strawberries and castle-topper cake at Cape May.

The folks at Park Fare (characters were the step mother and step sisters, Prince Charming and Cindy) did a terrific job of joking with the girls, presenting them with their birthday crowns, and generally treating them like royalty. The dessert rated high on the "pretty" scale and I thought it was an interesting mix of fruit and white and dark chocolate, but my girls didn't have much to say about it other than it was "really pretty". (I take that to mean they didn't like it all that much.)

I have to say that our hands-down birthday favorite was the strawberries we had at Cape May, which were perfectly ripe, flavorful, and lovely. The castle cake was pretty dry, though the icing was good (according to my girls). The characters and servers at Cape May were even more boisterous than the Park Fare folks and came by for extra photo ops when the desserts were delivered.

Now for the bad news.... I was told we'd be charged $25 per dessert (yes, for EACH dessert -- and I ordered two of each because I have two girls!) PLUS delivery, tax, & tip -- I guess I'll need to see my CC bill to find out exactly how much it all was. :scared1:

Would I do it again??? Maybe for their 21st birthday. Maybe not. This year they turned "Sweet 16" and I wanted it to be very special. Hey, it was cheaper than buying them a car!

Thanks again for all your help!

Wendy

ap29 - thank you for clarifying that - a picture is worth a thousand words!!

I know when we did LTT and I "pre ordered" a cake and then when it came out, and the frosting falling off, mom and I both knew it had been pre frozen - I was so upset while at Disney I called to cancel our 1900 park fare chocolate cake - I was probably emotional - I was assured there is a difference, so I stuck with the Grand Floridian Bakery cake - and it was positively delicious -

but I didnt customize it in any way!!

Our Crystal Palace cake was customized (so I knew they couldnt just throw a pre frozen cake at me!!) when I saw how they did the pictures at Sam's Club, I just figured Disney must be using the same technology -

why did they do it on the slab of white chocolate?? :confused3

Now that tiered 25th cake is huge!! and a pretty mold of Mickey and Minnie...
but is it worth the money... pros and cons...

and a good point about the customizing of cakes... the least they can do is produce a cake that tastes good - but I have to say, I've noticed the same thing in the Dessert selections at Disney - they are all the same - no creativity!! Its a trend... and a sad one at that... imho!

Wendy - I also want to thank you for posting the slipper dessert, a poster on another thread was told that they only do "glass slippers" :confused3

Now I know at Epcot I did buy a glass slipper for DD (had it engraved too!!) but for a dessert?? I dont think so - but I couldnt debate it, as I havent been to Disney in awhile!!

glad to see they are still doing the white chocolate desserts!!

(what, you mean mom - no cars for 16??!! *grin)
