Just a couple of posts before yours someone is saying just the opposite about cakes from the GF. Your post encouraged me because we are having my mom's big 70th birthday event at the GF and I need to order a cake. What cake combinations from the GF have you been happy with ? Thanks a lot!

My husband and I have enjoyed 2 cakes from the GF for 2 anniversaries. Both were incredible in both taste and eye appeal.

Both times we ordered a vanilla cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries in between the layers with Vanilla butter creme icing. It was delish and the icing melted in your mouth.

I do not think you will be dissappointed at all.
Blessings,
Winnie

Winnie - I remember reading your trip report!! Good to "see" you again.

and Tink*shell*bell put it very well - and I for one am looking forward to seeing the Princess Birthday cake!!

I will also add, that I think many many desserts in the WDW have gone down hill, I think there has been a change of sorts... but I'm with Tink - I think you have to know the right questions to ask, have the right incentive, but most importantly - get the right CM!!

:wizard:

So I just booked an ADR at Boma for May 22. My dh and I are celebrating our second anniv. I want to order a mini cake or dessert that is special and small enough for the two of us. This would be a surprise for him. Any suggestions?

the cakes below weren't ordered, but each restaurant surprised us with them (october, 2007) (i mentioned that dh & i would be celebrating our birthdays when i made the ressies). they were delicious (especially the one at california grill!) & just the thought of them giving us a little something, made it even more special....gotta love that disney touch!

Okay - I have been skimming through this thread since I changed my daughters birthday dinner from Chef Mickeys to 1900 Park Faire. I had no idea of all the options available!!

Can someone just correct me if I am wrong because I simply cannot get through 200 pages lol.

I would like to order 2 desserts (1 for each twin). The mini Castle Cake is $25...the filling is _________?

or I would order 2 Cinderellas Slippers........$14 each?

Both of these options allow me to personalize with the individual girls name correct?

I saw a few photos with Birthday Girls in tiaras.....does 1900 Park Faire just do this or did they bring them for themselves? I did tell them when I made the reservation that it is the girls birthday.

Thanks......

We will be having a dinner at 1900 Park Fare and I was considering ordering a slipper dessert for my daughter. It's not her birthday or anything I just thought it would tickle her. She'd love it. Now, I also have two sons and my "Mommy guilt" cannot do something like this for her and not do something for them. They wouldn't have the slightest interest in a dessert slipper, is there anything else special that could be ordered for them? Something boy-ish? Even if it's just a special cupcake or something that would be nice.

Thanks :goodvibes

An option might be the tuxedo strawberries and/or the chocolate Mickey statue (or maybe another character; I know I've also seen Donald and Goofy).

Another dessert the GF used to have that was good for boys was the 'dog bone' eclairs.

Re: 1900 Park Fare

When I made the reservation, I told them that it was my birthday (this past March 3). I also had on my birthday button. After we sat down, the waiter said "Oh wait a minute" and came back with a birthday cupcake and a tiara. I also got a laminated place mat with the characters signatures. The tiara is really cute.

Great Great!! Anyone have photos of the place mat or tiara....oh my girls will love this!! (and so will I lol)

I thought I read here somewhere that the Disney Dining Experience (DDE) is available for the cake service?

I have looked through a 100 pages and I couldn't find any cakes from the Princess Storybook restaurant @ Norway ( I apologize if there is and I didn't go far enough-- my eyes are killing me.)

Does anyone have a pic of a cake from there? I saw the Ariel cake. I definitely don't want that or anything like that. So would it be my best bet to call Boardwalk Bakery?

In October I ordered a cake from Akershus. There were only two options either a Mickey cake or a princess cake (if you didn't want the frozen option). I went for the princess with a screen print type picture of the princesses, which they personalised. It was plain cake and lots of whipped cream. Very nice - I was quoted $35 but they said at Akershus that if we weren't having the dessert as well it would be $25. They were kind enough to box it up so we could take it back to the resort.:goodvibes

Can someone show me some pics of the 8 inch cakes from GF Bakery?? I called today and wanted to order an 8 inch to have it customized but you really don't get much customization as they pretty much pick the frosting and filling and you pick between 2 different kinds. I wanted buttercream but that wasn't one of the choices :( I would have to go to a 10 inch for that and it is only for 4 people, so I'm kind of bummed:sad1: I'm thinking of calling back and ordering the 8 inch, most likely the vanilla cake with I forget what filling they said though. With the 8 inch, can you get any design on the cake or is it just a cake with flowers??? This was going to be for me and DH anniversary cake. I don't want the mini castle but rather an 8 inch but with a design such as a theme I guess you could say. I've seen people with like Lady and The Tramp and Mickey and Minnie, etc. Can anyone show me pics of anniversary 8 inch cakes they have ordered so I can get a rough idea. Also, how do the 8 inch cakes taste?? I know some on here say the 6 inch ones aren't that great and often come out still frozen because they are premade, ready for you to get. I don't want that. I might do that for like a night at an ADR with the kids but not for the anniversary. If you can help, I would sure appreciate it-THANKS SO MUCH:goodvibes

I'm curious about that too as I am getting ready to order anniv. cake from GF bakery for dinner at Narcoossee's. I love the look of the mini castle cake but am afraid it is too small for the 2 of us.

I called the bakery line yesterday for a birthday dinner at Narcoosee's for DH's birthday next month. I really wanted to do something special. The person on the phone was very nonchalant and just said I should order what's available for $15 when we get there (I think that was the price she said). Otherwise I would have to call back to talk to someone else. After everything I have read and seen on this thread, and being sooo excited, I was very disappointed after the phone call. Has anyone else had this experience?

I called today and talked with a lady @ GF and she said they stopped a long time ago making cakes for you to pick up or for them to deliver.

Is this so? Do I call back and speak to someone else?

They only do cakes for their resort guests or guests eating at their restaurants.

When I ordered a cake last Sept the first question was "are you dining at one of the GF restaurants?" I said yes and had to provide either the ressie number or my name, time of adr (can't remember which). Anyhow, the order taker verified the info before continuing with the cake order. She was reluctant to do more than the standard frozen cake, but I kept insisting that I wanted custom. I made a request for something Alice in Wonderland themed but specifically asked for there not to be one of those white choc stand up things where they just copy something from a book onto it and then paint by numbers. Well, of course on the cake was exactly that and it was even broken. :sad2:

To answer your question, I was told that they no longer allow pickups because of so many no shows.

Yes, you have to dine at a GF restaurant or be a guest at the resort (with room delivery) to get a cake at the GF. You can't just pick one up to take elsewhere and they do not deliver to other resorts.

Do you have ADRs at one of the restaurants? Maybe she didn't understand that?

If you don't have GF ADRs and are looking to pick up a cake, it'll have to be from the Boardwalk Bakery.

If you want delivery to another resort, you should call the cake hotline (that is what Disney wants you to do) and let them direct you to the correct person. You cannot specify which bakery your cake will come from. Some resorts do not do any of their own cakes, others like WL, Poly and CR have a limited bakery services.

I pretty sure this was asked...but can you get the chocolaste covered strawberries at 1900 Park Fare? As well as a chocolate Mickey statue? And if so does anyone know how much they are and if they are any good? And is it possible to get these at CRT or just at 1900PF?

Those are great ideas! My youngest is a chocoholic that LOVES strawberries. It couldn't be more perfect. A chocolate Goofy would be perfect for my silly middle child.

I'm getting excited!

After seeing this cake thread and getting all excited about ordering for our upcoming vacation, I too was disappointed with the non-chalant attitude and the fact that they push the cake that you just ask for when you arrive at the podium for your ADR over a custom cake. Not sure why they do that as I've heard not so good reviews on those ones about them being still kind of frozen, etc so I didn't really want one of them. When I called to book for an 8 inch which serves 10 people, mind you (we are a party of 4), they give you 2 choices for cake flavor and filling and in order to get buttercream which is our favorite, you would have to go with the 10 inch cake which serves way too many. Even the 8 inch is too much for (4) I did get to order the slipper dessert for me and dd and I think I may leave it at that. That phone call went ok. The 2nd call didn't go too hot. When the lady immediately tried to push the 6 inch cake on me and I said, not interested and told her why, she just paused for the longest and then finally said, so...............do you want the 8 inch? I think I'll stop at Publix and get some "special" things of our own to celebrate. I also don't like ordering things I can't really put my eyes on. The slipper dessert, I've seen pics of but the cakes, there are just too many different ones with different prices and I've read the good & bad on them. I would rather not chance it. Maybe you could try the same thing and do it solo rather than depend on something you don't really know what you are getting. Maybe it depends on who picks up on the other end I'm sure. I'm just glad I got the slipper ordered. The 3rd lady I spoke to was very nice and answered all my questions and even suggested some other alternatives :) Goodluck to you no matter what:thumbsup2
