Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

I just ordered one for my DW "Welcome Home Katie" for our trip to Saratoga Springs at the end of September. I got the 8" vanilla cake with white chocolate filling and dark chocolate frosting. I got the 8" thinking that we could enjoy a piece each night that we are there. Jim was very nice but he said that unfortunately they do not deliver to the room. That is fine, I will pick it up at the Turf Club that night. Probably better anyway since I am not sure what time we will be back to the room and I would not want it to set out. This way I can make an excuse to leave and go get it myself. He said they are all made at the Boardwalk Bakery then they pick them up and hold them for you. Can't wait. Dang, I hope she does not read this thread or there goes the surprise.

We just got back from Fort Wilderness and ordered a Mickey Cake for daughters 1st Birthday. It wasn't quite her birthday but close enough and we wanted to celebrate it there to make it more special. Anyway, we went up to the concierge desk for Fort Wilderness to ask what the best way to get a "Disney Cake" was. This CM gave us the phone numbers to WalMart and Publix. I looked at him dumfounded. I had specified DISNEY CAKE and he gives me phone numbers to Walmart and Publix????? So I just said "No a Disney Cake" and he sells well they are expensive and Walmart and Publix is much cheaper... Can you believe this??? Anyway after repeating myself he then said I don't know let me check....???? So then after checking he said order it through Wilderness Lodge and then they can have it delivered to Pioneer Hall to pick up. He then called Room Service fore Wilderness Lodge and handed me the phone. I ordered a Mickey Cake and it was wonderful, even though they mispelled Anna as Ana...

It was delicious by the way, and I received a discount for being DVC. Regularly $45.00 plus tax . I paid 42.63 with tax. Here is pics:

DD and I are going for her birthday in a few weeks (9/12-9/16) She turns 12 on 9/21, so this is her birthday gift. I want to order a cake for our first dinner at Whispering Canyon. You said you got a DVC discount. We are also DVC. I didn't realize you could get a discount on cakes too. This is great news!! The only thing is, she would love the cindy castle mini cake, but we are not doing any meals at GF. She wanted her "birthday dinner" to be at WCC. Could that cake possibly be sent to our room at VWL or is a regular birthday cake the only one we can get there?

I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff but, I am pretty sure that you can only get the mini castle cake at the GF and its restaurants and of course Cinderlla's castle. Maybe someone else will chime in here for you.

At GF only. Not even at CRT can you get the mini castle cake. :-(

No they will not do the Castle cake anywhere, but Grand Floridian, so either if you are staying there, having a meal at one of the venues, or having tea those are the only places they do them for. We wanted it for CRT, but we got it for Mary Poppins. It was a nice surprise done by hubby, but was not worth what it cost. We would have rather a larger cake if we had knew this beforehand. It was very cute, but not great great in taste.

Well I finally ordered the cake for my DD's 6th birthday, I don't know whether I am happy or sad :confused3:

I originally wanted to have it for dinner at CRT, but when I spoke to the CM there, I was told that no matter what size cake I ordered the choices of filling would be vanilla or chocolate, not what I wanted at all..
So the next on my list was GF, we are having breakfast there, but I figured if we want a special cake it was gonna have to be GF or nothing.

Well I rang private dining and told the cm I wanted a small cake, got the usual info about the pre-made 6", but i told her that my DD really wanted the strawberry and custard filling, she said ok but you will have to order a 10" cake for that. She asked if I was sure I wanted to go that large seeing as there are only 3 of us, and I asked if there was no way that I could have a smaller one with the cust/strawb filling and she said no mam you cannot have that filling in anything other than a 10" so I went ahead and ordered it, but I'm sure there are lots of people on this thread who have had a 6" or even 8" cake with strawberry and custard. I'm glad I got the cake I wanted, but disappointed that we have to have such a big cake for 3 of us, we won't even get to eat it all week as we leave 2 days later :headache:

As anyone got any suggestions as to how to get the small cake I want?

:thanks:

No, we tried to get one made special to celebrate our honeymoon, and first trip to WDW, and was told no I could not choose anything other than chocolate/choco, or Vanilla/Vanilla, and I think MAYBE I caped that because I THINK I remember it being a choice. The guy was pretty strict, also the first lady I spoke to was not really pleasent at all, and by the end had me nervous, when this should have been fun.I was told 10 inch cakes start at 40, and decorations range 25, and up. I was really unhappy, and it was only 2 of us, so it would have been a HUGE waste. They wouldnt budge at all on at least allowing me a different cake flavor. My husband ended up ordering the Mini Castle wedding cake at 1900 park, but honestly it was not worth it. It was not really a moist, or flavorfull cake (chocolate), and the icing did taste a lot like crisco, and if you got it on your fingers it had the same consistancy. It was really cute, but not worth it.

I have ordered a white/ buttercream frosting cake for my son's 5th Anniversary. It is the 6in cake. Then they are getting the chocolate castle from GF and putting it on the cake. 12.50 for the cake and 15.00 for the castle. They are eating at the California Grill.

The diver deal is really cool if you can arrange it. :goodvibes: We did it for DD's bday 2 weeks ago and she about flipped.

That's exactly what I'm trying to arrange for dd. I make my ADR this weekend for Coral Reef for her Feb. 15th birthday. Can you tell me how you arranged for the diver? Did you also do the personalized menu and did you get the chocolate "Happy Birthday" with her dessert?

Thanks!!!

I ordered the small castle cake for sisters birthday last week we had delievered to the room and it was so good. We got the white cake. And I was also told they only have them at the GF now.

I agree. I thought it was delicious! I thought it was much better tasting than the (nice looking) white choc Cindy Slipper dessert. :thumbsup2

I have a question. Should I call and confirm my cake order prior to my trip and if so how soon before we leave should I call? THANKS!!:)

You only need to confirm if you ordered really early. They only need 48 hours to a week's notice when ordering. If you booked it earlier than that, then yes, I'd definitely confirm and I'd call 48 hours before you leave at the latest just to make sure they didn't loose the order. :goodvibes

What type of filling was in the Mickey cake? It looks really good what did the white icing taste llike? Some people have said their buttercream tasted like crisco. Would this be the same place that would make a cake for WCC?

Really cute cake!!!

This is the number for the Coral Reef from the front page I am about 90% sure this is the number I used. Coral Reef 407-560-6784 Tell them that you want to arrange for the diver and menu. You email them pictures for the menu. We did not get the chocolate Happy bday but we bought her the Will Turner cake so I am pretty sure that is why. HTH

This filling was vanilla buttercream. I'm not sure what the outside white was but I assume the same. They don't really tell you. The chocolate was very good and I thought the vanilla icing on the outside was fine. The inside was so moist and the filling almost tasted like white chocolate pudding it was so good. I think the Mickey Cake is well worth it. I would definitely do it again. And it is pretty large. We had to leave some behind in the cabin because we couldn't finish it before we left. Yes I am sure they would also make it for WCC since they had sent it over from Wilderness Lodge.

Yes! The GF bakery totally lost the order for the cake I ordered for my mother's 80th birthday. I even mentioned it when we were being seated to make sure they knew to bring it out. Then at the end of the meal the waiter asked if we wanted to order desert. I reminded him about the cake and he tells me they have no order for a cake. Next thing I know the manager is there, my mother was embarrassed and we just left without so much as a cup of coffee.

OK, I'm having dinner at LTT in October, and I'd like to order a birthday cake with a Tinkerbell theme. Does an edible image have to be on white icing? If I get white icing, do I have to order vanilla cake? I would prefer vanilla cake with chocolate icing, or chocolate cake with vanilla icing. If I order a custom cake to be served at LTT, does anyone know what bakery it comes from? And is the icing really going to taste like Crisco???

That's awful! What restaurant were you dining at and how far in advance did you order the cake? I can't believe you mentioned the cake when being seated and they never bothered to tell you they couldn't find the order! You should have been comped something for such a blatant error.
