Wow have I been on a cake hunt !

Dh and I decided we wanted a cake for when we informally renew our vows during our trip in Sept. I wanted one like one I saw posted on here which I knew came from the GFB. And since I read so many times that they won't deliver to other resorts or restaurants I booked a lunch for our party at Citricos yesterday.

Yesterday when I called the GFB and explained the cake I was looking for she put me threw to Linda who would be able to handle what I was asking for.

Well today Linda called me back and confirmed that we had to be having a meal at one of their restaurants or staying there and have it delivered to our room. So I was thankful I had booked that lunch !

I explained what we wanted and how many people we would have. She figures the cake is too small as is for our party. It's only a 6 in wedding topper she said.

So she is going to talk to the Executive Chef and see how much it would be to make it a bigger cake. With the White Fondant with Silver Mickey Heads on the Fondant and the Mickey and Minnie Bride and Groom white chocolate topper.

We asked for Marble Cake with Strawberry Mousse filling.

The 6 inch is 80.00 with the topper so I'm guessing it will be close to 100.00 for the larger cake. She did offer to put the topper on any cake but I have my heart set on the White Fondant with the Silver Mickey Heads.

So she is calling me tomorrow with a price.

I already have a cake ordered for our dinner that night at Ohana's and I'm thinking now that I should switch it to another night like our first night there at Chef Mickey's. |

I called to do that and the lady didn't seem to know much about what they could do. She didn't know if they even did toppers.

I told her I wanted an 8 in with Vanilla Cake, Chocolate Mousse Filling, and Chocolate Butter Cream frosting. She offered the picture toppers. I told her I wanted the White Chocolate Tigger Topper instead of a picture one. She said she would talk to the Chef tomorrow and see if they do that and if they do how much it would cost. And asked if I wanted anything else on the cake or just the topper plopped on it LOL I said what ever he wants to do to make it nice as long as it has a Tigger Topper.

She asked if we wanted a picture one if they don't do the toppers and I told her if they can't do the toppers than I would call one of the other restaurants we are going to to get a cake with the topper there instead. But she is going to check for me and call me tomorrow.

I'm so stinking excited about the cake from the GFB !!!!!!

If I'm not able to have a specially made cake delivered to my room at CBR, what are my other options? I really want a cake for my son's Bday, but because of his autism, planning a on big party at one of the dine in restaraunts is not a good idea. So, what else can I do?

I would call before giving up on not getting one at CBR. I just listened to the options on the new cake hotline and it lists all the resorts even the value resorts. I just left a message with the one for Pop Century to see what they offer in case we decide to get one delivered to our resort instead of at one of the meals.

As promised, pictures of DD's cake from the Grand Floridian Cafe last week:

When I called, I ordered a 10" because that was the smallest I could get customized. I got yellow cake, white buttercream frosting, and fresh strawberries in custard between the layers. I didn't make any requests about decorations other than the "Happy 6th Birthday" inscription and a note that purple is one of her favorite colors (pink is another, but I knew she'd be wearing pink, so I wanted purple for the sake of the pics :rotfl: ) It was absolutely amazing, quite possibly the best cake I've ever had! The pics really don't do it justice. The strawberry & custard filling was absolutely perfect, not too sweet and very fresh - well worth having to order the bigger cake. The cake cost $40 plus tax and gratuity, for a grand total of $49.80.

So now that DD's birthday trip is over, I'm turning my attention to our next trip. We'll be having DS's birthday dinner at Artist Point. Does anyone have any experiences or pictures to share of custom cakes there? Who does their cakes? In house, or one of the other bakeries?

I, too, would like to see some pics of the Nemo cake. We are celebrating my DH's birthday at the Coral Reef with the diver and the menu and I am thinking of getting the Nemo cake for the finale but I would love to see someone's pictures of it and their opinions of what the best flavors would be! (He's not too big into the fruity options though!) TIA :flower3:

WL does their own cakes. In this thread there are some dynamite pics of WL work, they've done some really nice things.

Your cake from GF was gorgeous. Considering I want irises on ours, well, yours really speaks to me!

Beautiful cake. Not to much but just enough...The star decoration is neat too. :flower3: Glad it turned out just like you wanted. Was your DD surprised? princess:

For the person inquiring about CBR, that is where we are staying and I called about a month ago to confirm that YES, we could have a cake delivered to the room. The cake would be made at Boardwalk Bakery and yes. Simply call the cake hotline number and follow the prompts for CBR...at least 48 hours in advance.

I ordered a "surprise" cake for my DW for our trip in September. We are staying at Saratoga Springs and I was told that they will not deliver it to the room. The cake will be made at the Boardwalk Bakery and I can pick it up at the restaurant at SSR on the day I requested. I actually prefer this so that the cake is not sitting in the room to long while we are at the parks.

Does anyone remember what page that mad hatter cake was on? My dd loves Alice in Wonderland and I want to read over the info in that post again! Thanks!

Who did you talk to - Boardwalk Bakery or SSR? When I called the cake hotline, I followed the prompts through to my resort (CBR) and left a message. I got a call back from the food services area at CBR and they confirmed that yes, a cake could be delivered to our room. The cake would be make at Boardwalk Bakery, who would NOT deliver it, but that it would be delivered by CBR staff.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Mickey cake? I'm planning on going through the thread (that's gonna take me a while :surfweb: ) but I was curious if someone had seen or gotten one that was particularly cute that I should look out for. My son turns 2 right before we leave so we're having his big birthday party a couple days before but we also wanted to pick one night while we're there to do something extra special. He just LOVES his Mickey so it definately has to be a Mickey cake. We're either doing it for our dinner at the GF or maybe our dinner at Chef Mickey. I assume it's different bakeries for each (I know the GF has their own bakery) so my other question is...is one bakery better than the other/does anyone have a preference? I think it would be super cute to have his Mickey cake at the dinner where he'd get to see Mickey but if the GF bakery does a better cake then having it during that dinner would work too. Especially since my little flirt likes to smile at Cinderella.

Sarah, did you actually have the cake in it's box and it still fit? If so, that's great for us, as we will definitely have some left over. It will be a short trip but we can take the remains home to enjoy! I am so looking forward to the GF and also having something fabulous (hopefully) to snack on in the room!!

Yes, we did keep it in the box. I just told the front desk about it and when we came back they had it in the fridge.

HI

We are traveling with Magical Gathering in 08. It will be my parents 40th anniversary as well as my brothers 2nd anniversay (plus where he spent his honeymoon) and it will be the first time that my kids will be visiting the park. Plus My brothers wife will be celebrating her birthday on our arrival day. I would really like to celebrate all these occassions with a cake. Does anyone have any suggestions. We will probably be having our first dinner meal at Boma.

Thanks:cool1: :cheer2:

I talked to Jim as SSR. He was very helpful but stated that they could not deliver it to the room. Like I said it actually works out better for me this way.
